^ I was saying it from the start. Let features pop-in NMS Game of Thrones title intro style. Or any other style Nitrous supports. Let clouds or planet distance serve as a gift wrap that you'll feel need to remove to see what kinda candy is inside. And I love the goofy features on the planets and overall planet style.
Hunam_
There's so much you can do with the clouds. And if they are animated?.. And if there's lightning?.... [e digicons]:O[/e] Clouds would indicate atmosphere presence. Rainbow clouds = rainbow worlds? Black clouds = extremely polluted world with mechanical beings, rivers of fuel oil and smog air or [insert your dark fantasy encounter here] Not all planets need it. Not all planets need surface features either (Moon, Mars). [img]https://s11.post
I'd still like Developers to chime in on SCO planet naming convention... @Frogboy @Vaelzad
^ I thought you were well read, spoken etc. etc. :P
Quoting Hunam_, reply 21 ^ If a player has no concept of gravity, he shouldn't be playing games that involve it. Multiple pull points vs singular don't change much for the ones who do. <b
Is anyone gonna make it their life's work to find their own planet? What would be super cool if the game knew your planet name and had a side-quest to help you find it.
Nobody reads this thread, guys. It's just for announcements. Kappa :)
^ Please, tell me it's "Harambe".
Hi, cuoreimpavido. I am Hunam from planet Earp (wall-e reference). (my nickname is an obvious "Human" that Spathi butchered) I'm thinking either my last name or the city I was born in - Saransk.
It reminds of: Update 1.03 Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so its effects have been reduced further… Not gonna say who it's from. :P
Yes, NMS is missing hand-made content, period. The game was made for hardcore sci-fi fans that like to relax and read, hence all those sci-fi novel snippets sprinkled across the planets, space stations, buildings and monoliths. Have you paid attention to those texts at all? That is the supposed appeal of NMS. Travel/explore, sight-see, READ, sometimes "survive"... SC2 had exact same thing. 90% of planets are total duds. 10 planets had some text on them. SCO will have a good bit more of planet
Seanmurraylied ok? XD
I always thought it's just one planet. I wonder how it will look when it wouldn't correspond with Star name. What's the celestial body nomenclature anyway, Stardock?
^ If a player has no concept of gravity, he shouldn't be playing games that involve it. Multiple pull points vs singular don't change much for the ones who do. I guess we'll be able to judge better after we try it out... Hmm... when is that gonna happen?...... Meanwhile, how do you assume to use that grid in melee, Volu? And why is there "anus" in your nickname? I can't help it, but read it everytime I see it.. XD
^ Finally, another voice of reason in the world of game hand holding... I have a feeling that the first thing that happened was they changed the view to perspective from top-down. Then testers struggled to get a feel for gravity, 'cause the view is compressed horizontally, so visually speed AND gravity pull is different when ship's flying up-down vs left-right. So grid was added... Chmmr tractor beam SFX type o' deal can be used to indicate gravity pull whe
After about 120 hours in NMS I found out that about 8 planets out of 10 have life. I, personally, think this is a mistake. But I can understand HG reasoning - who wants to visit lifeless planets. They didn't want players to not spend time on planets. But after all this I still "skip" planets even with life on it, 'cause there's just too much of it and it starts repeating itself. The funny thing is that now I spend more time on lifeless (no fauna) planets... One less thing that get
OH, HUNAM with the NMS defense again! Were you on the development team or something? Do you get paid royalties for every copy not returned? Sheesh. Lol, I can't explain why - but NMS's "life-filled" worlds somehow felt entirely lifeless to me and no amount of "pretty vistas" are going to change that. And I can't explain why, but YES - the screenshots you posted from the planetary lander screen from SC2 somehow
^ So, you'd rather dumb down combat to grid exploitation? No wonder so many people hate MP...
^ You get a hang of it with XP. You don't need visual representation of gravity wells, unless they are random AF. Where a Mercury sized planet can have gravity of a Jupiter and visa versa. That'd be just plain stupid though. I, myself, am really not a fan of a combat grid. Even in TBS games I always turn it off. I feel the combat with the grid will come down to where you use the grid to line up your shots instead of instinctive visual aim. You gonna get so reliant on the grid
Is it the motion sickness that's the issue here or just the view preference? The current SMG (Super Mario Galaxy) exploration system will allow for a wider variety of planet exploration mini-games in my estimation. It's also visually superior to top-down overall. I doubt we'll have a view choice in planet exploration, but it always can be considered by developers.
So, you were completely satisfied with this: And now this isn't enough? Dusting off my since FIFA 14-15 days... Get ready!
^ That's what Kavik said... :P
I realize this is WIP, so maybe some/all of my comments are irrelevant. How hard would it be to get rid of this loading screen and replace it with s.l.o.w.e.d down zoom-in to planet cinematic with planet features and UI populating the screen in a cool animated manner while the stuff is actually loading? Actually, why can't the whole Star System be pre-loaded, so everything inside the system is smooth and uninterrupted transitions without any real or fake loading screens?<
I think Kavik will get 2... :P
