A single ship can bomb structures but you can also build a single or two defense guns to completely deprive it of the ability--a relatively modest cost and slot consumption--only they can't engage strike craft at all . I think planets themselves should have a radius where they do damage automatically versus hostile strike craft. It could be based on population/type what range and/or damage they do or simply allowing balanced defensive guns with only AAA capabili

That doesn't address the niggling little things like a single carrier cruiser can come in and nibble away minefields and facilities with no opposition if the system isn't equipped with a hangar or carrier. Scouts can travel unmolested and indefinitely far behind your lines with little threat from in place defenses and pop minefields at leisure unless you muster a posse or dedicate disproportionate defensive forces just to stop them. Intelligence is a big deal in combat.
I understand the basics given here and am going to look them over tonight to see what questions I can come up with. Textures I'll try after I get the basic adding planets done without error. I'll play a bit then come back and post what I am thinking/trying. Thanks so far ;)
So... basically a flak frigate with high move speed and damage, but low hull. Generally speaking, I don't like variant units. Sins has a small enough roster that I'd prefer something entirely new to what's essentially an alternately-statted version of an existing unit.
I'd make its flak very minimal. It essentially would be a small ship capable of outpacing a scout. One of the things that
It seems every time I grab some snippet for modding or a template or string edit, I end up with a depreciated string, incomplete or even incorrect/bugged example that doesn't get me working right. Posts are scattered all over the boards and most are dated from 2008-9 making it hard to know which are still relevant. I have the general concept and a non-experienced understanding of some basic modding elements but some things are unclear. From the vanilla to the expansions, t
Yeah...but he means in real life not your MMO. [e digicons][/e]
I always thought they should introduce a "PT boat" type vessel as a scout and strike craft killer. One with high maneuverability and speed but very low shields and damage that could dash (like a Kodiak) and engage strike craft and trade-refinery ships doing enough damage to take a scout out with a single salvo--balanced with a longer reload if needed. A low-cost ship to garrison systems against lone scout recon and to interdict economic traffic and provide isolated planets a lim
A Serbian politician getting killed kicked off WWI. A surprise attack by two nations most others assumed did not posses a global war capability began WWII. Sudden change is a given at all times its just difficult to determine the exact "when". We certainly are living in times like pre-WWI & II...anything can happen. I think most people underestimate how momentous the change happening right now really is.
It's like Tesla versus Edison all over again!
But no fairy magic?
TSOP adds extra oomph and the more oomph available, the longer this game will be a classic. I swear I read some dev blog saying some planet textures were fixed in the beta.
My original avatar posted 'cause I am working and need something to do, so I do this:
Smurfs are the only Sins race able to ride space ponies--do not mock them!
Here's a typical, non strategic resource system (note the lack of connection to the star itself). There are 63 stars taken from the Imperium board game and they retain the same strategic positioning and approximate tactical/strategic values they had in the original board game in the New Imperium map as well making the New Imperium map "a board game within a computer game". <img src="http://www.worldstrider.info/images/Typica
Here is the complete (unlabeled) map. Wormhole jump lanes are not visible but two phase lanes are. These two systems ( Luuru and Smade's Star ) connected by phase lanes have no wormhole connections but they harbor a strategic secret. The original Imperium map at the top of the post, shows the connecting wormhole routes properly for each star but not the details of the wormhole planetary arrangements inside the star systems. <img s
Gashidda is the capital of the original Imperium game and is likewise in the New Imperium map. The original Imperium did not incorporate planetary system maps -- they were represented only as a single surface combat and defense box but in the New Imperium map, the capital systems off the two powers are the big resource centers. Terra incorporates a line of defense in it's planetary paths and so does Gashidda . The
Here's Sol System, home of the TEC (Terran Economic Corporate) Confederation -- which represents the original game's Terran Confederation . There are my own homages to other scfi works in some of the planet names which is somewhat obvious. To reach Terra after jumping to Sol system requires spiraling in from the outer solar system's Oort Cloud and Kuiper Belt an
Here's the original board game map showing the same stars and jump lanes as are in Sins New Imperium galaxy map:
Yes--TSOP has worked with the beta so far with no seeming issues. It would also be nice is TSOP could include the the same sort of graphics changes as are found in MSGM as they do affect performance but don't enhance play (hint hint). So far as I understand it, only about three texture files are involved?
FYI--Multiple Starts Graphic Mod 0.3 that is supposedly synced with TSOp does one of two things in the Diplomacy beta for me. If TSOP is installed and then the MSGM is stacked on to it...minidump. If I install MSMG and then TSOP...TSOP overwrites and the galaxy cloud effect is still there. The MSGM I installed was the one stated it had been made to work with TSOP. ...and "Hi" Major Stress...long time no see.

This is a work on progress beginning simply as a map (which is completed but just being tweaked). Designed for Diplomacy and solo or multi-player play (different versions will be available to optimize this) it's a long strategic game in a large, multi-star galaxy. Not expecting anyone to hop up and down over it but just wanted to begin a thread in which people can see it and to post updates for those who become interested. Advice and info always invited...feel free to co

Wait...his child is more important than Sins!? No wonder it's taken so long. ;) Congrats! ...and thanks for updates (can't that kid copy code or something since he's taking up all that time?)
If you download through Windows Update it only downloads what is missing from the system to bring it up to SP1. If you download the whole SP1 there is ine for x32 and x64, the x64 one being 903.2 MB. If you want both download the .iso as it contains both x32 and x64 installs.
Good tip. I'm using this option as when I tried to use IE to update (which is all I use it for), it would validate then not return me to th
