Utterly pedantic note: The Yor also have Seekers instead of Stingers. Their unique weapons are an exact match to the Iconians.

Pretty impressive. I've always wanted to win one of these, but I tend to be dragged into wars and that's the end of that - it isn't easy to mend relations with a race you've gone to war with (though it can be done).

What - no actual screenshots of the battle?
Using an effective but highly damaging invasion tactic with the number of troops limited so that it's guaranteed to fail but also guaranteed to soften up the planet for the "real" invasion *is* totally sensible. Back when I did invade planets I'd then follow up with mini-soldiers to actually take the planet with no permanent damage.
I agree it's perfectly sensible; the bigger question is whether it's an exploit. I'd say that's too harsh a term - it doesn't involve any a
Terrans. Super Diplomat is a big enough help that now, when I play as them, I disable super abilities if I'm going for a diplomatic win as it's just too easy (though a "true" diplomatic victory is uncommon - I usually ally with all the neutral and good/evil races and wind up destroying the third alignment).
Before saying anything else, I'd like to make a request: what is our current diplomatic status with all other major powers, and do we have access to information on any of their warship designs? Additionally, do the Trilarian possess a military force? The initial quarterly report suggests that they do.
This was the Precursor Corvette event? Aren't those things usually pretty weak?
As of this moment, I think all of the tech trees for my AIs are "fixed". Currently, I'm deciding on whether and/or to what extent I want to tweak things to my own liking, but for now, the tech trees appear to functioning as originally intended. I also split up my malfunctioning AI personalities: the Iconians and Yor are now operating under AI 11, while the Torians, Drengin, and Korath are using AI 8, as I felt its militarism suited their personalities better. I am considering switching the Th
Bumping so that any new forum members can know about this. Edit:
One thing I noticed in my auto-plays was that the minor races never initiated any wars. The conditions weren't ideal, though - the game simply isn't designed to auto-play such large scenarios. I even gave one minor ridiculous bonuses to see what they'd do. They grew out of control and dominated the galaxy, but still never started any wars. I used hot-seat to have some other rac
The AIs just won't take alliances seriously, so you have no hope of having them actually help defend you if all you can do in a war is provide techs and BC, no matter how ludicrously far ahead of the others you might be in research and income.
To be fair, that may be based on the nature of your ally. In some games I've survived only with the help of a powerful ally when things went badly. It also varies by AI: some races, like the Altarians, make very good allies, while
I'm not sure what's up with that. In my experience it only occurs when you select the Jenna Casey image for a custom race - when playing against the normal Terrans, she's the same animated-video style of any of the major races. I've also experienced this problem with the Korath leader - when selected to be the image for a custom race, he's just a still image a la a minor race leader. Other leaders, however, work fine with custom opponents, at least as far as I know. I think I'll experiment wi
Actually, at least on Tough, it is possible to win a diplomatic victory without ever going to war. However, it is almost certainly impossible to do so without building up a military to act as a deterrent. Random events may also cause you to go to war or encounter other types of military threat (like pirates).
Wait wait wait... are you selecting the "surrender" option on the diplomacy screen? That's you offering to surrender, not demanding that they surrender (which is impossible, though in very rare cases you can take all their planets for peace, which is mostly the same thing). I did this once when I was very new to the game. If you do it, you surrender to the other guys, which explains why you're then destroyed.
I've seen both ships be destroyed in the battle viewer, but on returning to the main screen the stronger ship is still there with 1 hp.
Been a while now... when's the next report?
By the way, the old IGN articles on the races that came out before DL was released can be a good source for background details (for instance, there's a description of the canonical Terran Alliance government structure). It's not clear how many of them still exist, but the GalCiv 2 wiki has reproduced most of the information in its major race descriptions. Kind of neat.
I have no idea what causes it, but I've experienced this as well - you're not the only one.
Well, I feel it's a needed tech too, but I didn't make the campaigns. And if the predecessor tech is disabled, then so is everything after it.
The Andians not only had several very large and powerful fleets, they actually invaded and captured planets. Never seen that up to now. Is this just a quirk, or does this happen in anyone elses campaign's? It's refreshing to see, and made for a scramble to create fleets to counter them...and with a 366Pt. defense for a 7-ship fleet, I had to scramble quickly
Yes, minor races can occasionally develop into decent powers.
Next stroke of genius hit me with the "Return of Dread Lords" mission...first: no headquarters? On purpose or accident? cant tell...but then i really got angry. I already spent HOURS with this mission. Its hard and quite fun and i was looking forward to build my trade routes...but then i realized, that i couldnt research trade? Took me again some time, but somebody forgot to enable the "basic diplomacy" tech with is prerequisite for trade...wtf?
That's not a bug. On a l
In recent news, I solved the long-standing mystery of why the Iconians were still doing badly despite a fixed tech tree today - I had inadvertently left them on AI 10. I switched them to AI 11 and the Torians to AI 8 - I feel its behavior suits the Torians better. On the subject of the Iconians, I noticed that now that they're researching Organic Materials, they're trading it freely to everyone. Not sure if this is behavior I want from them or not yet. I may make it untradeable.
But why did the planet stay Drengin? Both of us were completely wiped out - does a tie go in favor of the defenders?
Not really sure what happened here... I invaded with 2500 troops against around 7 billion Drengin, and got this screen. When I went back to the main screen, the planet remained in Drengin hands with 10 million survivors. Fortunately another transport was nearby, but it was certainly out of the usual. Ideas on what could have caused it? Anyone else ever seen this happe
So are we going to take a vote this time or not? If we are, I'd be willing to write the ballot again.
