Next update should go up on monday or tuesday!
To which Monday or Tuesday were you referring? Certainly not one of the last two. Oh, and mambaman - those words might apply to yourself as welll!

That's bizarre. You should post that as a bug report. It's especially weird because the results indicate you destroyed all three Thalan ships.

Thanks for the responses, Mascrinthus. I thought you'd dropped off the forums but evidently not. A few more questions on your responses: 2. While of course I doubt you remember your exact motivations, I'm still a little curious on this. As the AI never breaks alliances, securing one with the Korath would have neutralized them as a danger to you until you were ready to attack them. Are you uncomfortable breaking alliances like this (I usually don't as it feels somewhat like an exploit,

Mumblefratz - very very useful! I honestly did not know I could do that. [e digicons]k1[/e] karma. Seriously, that pretty much takes care of my problem. I don't object to the off-topic threads per se, just to them taking up seemingly all of the recent posts list. Oh, and just to note, I think the real reason for the "off-topic spam" is
that the Off-topic forum will be visible on pretty much all of Stardock's sites.
and thus the posters are from all thos

One effective use of the "paper tigers" is against Dread Lords. This certainly isn't a common situation, but with Dread Lords, the ship will most likely die anyway, so the 1 hp doesn't really hurt... I'm not sure, however, having only played DL, whether this will work with the revised combat system in the expansions. The other use for them is picking off "soft targets" - unarmed starbases and unescorted transports. The latter in particular are rare, but in at least one case ("The Great Altari

I believe, judging from a few of the campaign scenarios that feature homeworlds, that all you would need to do this is name the planet "Earth" and possibly the star "Sol" (or if it's something else in the Star Trek mod, then use that). However I've never tested this so I can't be certain. I've never heard of a Star Trek custom map but I suggest you check the library.

Yeah... but it'd be more convenient. I mean, you can tweak other aspects of the forums when logged on. A filter just seems like a natural idea. I can say with confidence that I will never post in the vast majority of off-topic (or for that matter, PC gaming) threads - so why can't I just filter them out somehow? I doubt that anything will come of this - the Forums Go Boom problem is FAR more annoying and there's no sign Stardock will ever do anything about that - but it woul

Actually, that's incorrect - there are some passive racial traits (though as you say, not many of them) and the Drath have, on paper, what looks like far and away the strongest passive traits (including 25% Diplomacy, which is what I referred to). I've always wondered why the Drath AI (usually - as the thread title says, only the evil AIs are always weak) doesn't do well, despite these bonuses. There is a known phenomon (sp?) where putting more points into an ability that yo
Zombie - funny as hell +1. All the spam on 1 horrible sandwich
I honestly can't tell if he was trying to insult the people on this thread or the 'spammers'. Maiden666 has by far the best suggestion though. I really don't object to forum games per se - I just object to them (or any other off-topic thread) taking up all the space on the 'recent posts' page when all I care about is the GalCiv stuff. A filter would be great.
Quite a few are no longer
Those formum games are nothing but useless spam GET RID OF THEM PLEASE
Well, I wouldn't put it quite that strongly... judging from all the responses they get, they must be quite popular... but I want them to stop getting in the way of the stuff I care about!

Posting from the GalCiv forum, I see pretty much the same problem. I see no reason I'll ever participate in a forum game and wish they'd stop pushing the GalCiv-related posts off the page. I suggest that the Off-Topic forums be made into a completely separate forum from the various 'game forums'. Of course I know nothing about web design and how inconvenient this may be... but I do feel it's needed. Although I have to ask the OP: isn't it a little ironic that you posted this in t

Having always wanted to face the Dread Lords in a sandbox game, but only owning DL, I slightly edited the "Dread Lords on Parade" scenario to create a version I thought I'd like better (you aren't forced to play as Terrans, and the game continues after the DLs die), and tried it out. Although otherwise playing fine, the scenario did experience one bug I haven't seen before. Early in the game, I built a military starbase at my closest planet to the DLs, who destroyed it a few turns later.

mambaman - I think the screenshots folder was introduced in DA - at any rate, it's not in DL (which this was played on).

My incident with the Scottlingas gone wild was on DL, but latest version (1.53). It happened after they got that random event where a minor race steals all a major races' techs - in this case the major race was the Arceans, the most technologically advanced race in the game. The Altarians were also fairly weak - but it still startled me. Regarding your Carinoids - is it possible they were gifted a colony ship by somebody? If not, I suppose they really did colonize, which would be

That's about what I thought on the research thing. The only bit I didn't know is that the human player also gets bonuses on Suicidal. Are these inferior to what the AI gets, or what? I play one of those more "normal" games myself, so that would explain why I couldn't possibly get those techs that early - I also just don't like very fast research settings, as it makes for an overly fast-paced game.
So, all in all logically, but not on a long-range scale: Building these caps on a

mklapin - There is a pinned Official Tactical Combat discussion thread . You should post your ideas there rather then creating a new thread for this topic (which has been discussed many many times).

Hi! A few comments: You say you want "more strategy, more epic feel" - how does overhauling the combat system (again) provide that? As Yavrin said:
I personally think that it may be possible to apply to CG2 with minimal alteration to AI, seing as it only really affects combat. Some of these ideas I have raised before but here are my thoughts..
As such, I don't think this is really an important change. If GalCiv III has any form of tactical comba

Moosetek13 - I've heard of that happening but never seen it myself. Are you sure they colonized the planets, or is it in any way possible they could have conquered them? Minor races can sometimes conquer a planet - I actually once had the Scottlingas completely wipe out the Altarians. I've also occasionally gifted friendly minors low-PQ worlds on gigantic galaxies, both to cut down on micromanagement and just to see whether they do anything with them. <

Hmm. So most of those details in the end-game summary are just there for you to know and not because they relate to the score?
The only conclusion that could be drawn from this is that the Altarians were much more willing to spend money as you, or, were bunkrupt at some point, like when you loose some planets and find yourself in the situation to lack the funds to upkeep your still existing Military.
Yeah, the Altarians were bankrupt a lot. I suspect that they w
The mechanisms when a StockRace queues in a Super/Trade/Wonder on a planet are very random, yet there can be patterns observed which seem to be fix. First, such a project is (or let's better say *seems*) always queued onto an empty tile - and never over an existing planetary improvement. Hence, if you gift "Concepts of Malice" mid/late-game to an AI he won't use it, because planets are outbuilt already. The best would be to do so during the Colon

Thanks for the responses! A few points in reply:
The Drengin were badly nerfed even worse. It seems to be their lack of focus/care for their economy ... they don't try to get it going, they fall way behind in research and tech and can't fund many colonies. It gets worse by the time you get to the last expansion because Stardock un-equalized the tech trees for all and gave the Drengin really shitty economy and research capabilities.
This is saddening to hear... a

Change the personality? That's it? Seems awfully simple... I've already made a mod where I switched the stock races and minors, but that's not what I'm talking about here. I want to have minor races that are still minor races, but able to build and use colony ships.
