Title says it all. Which AI races use which AI personality (normally)? I know they're all supposedly unique, but I've read that there's only four main AI personalities (I believe they're Terran, Drengin, Altarian, and Torian) and the rest are just variants. An old thread said that the Iconians, Drath, and Thalans use the Terran AI module - so which races use the others? Input from developers would be appreciated.

Well, my first question is, why are you blowing up Drath constructors if the only opponent is the Drengin? (sorry, typo nazi joke) I've run into this a few times myself, and all I can say is that inevitably no AI is going to be perfect. There's actually at least four separate AI modules - I believe they're Terran, Drengin, Torian, and Altarian - which the rest are variants on (Torian and Altarian seem to be the strongest) so you could try playing against another one if the Drengi
As far as an ARC being "cheating" for one that's a pretty harsh word for something that is pretty innocuous, however if that's the way you feel about then you are of course free to not use it. Also this was fully and openly discussed within the community when it was discovered and even brought to Cari's attention (see https://forums.galciv2.com/172405 reply #21) and it wasn't deemed significant enough to do something about and so I don't really see it as cheating. As far as exploits go

Slightly off-topic, but how are you getting a 3 planet home system? I don't do ARCs because I consider it "cheating", but from what I understand you're working with all the default home systems and just using them with different or custom races, and none of the defaults have 3 habitables. And I can confirm that in DL no lease option is really that good for most upgrades. The more expensive upgrades in particular can destroy a flourishing economy if leased.

Scanian8 - I think you misunderstood. I think the campaigns are quite enjoyable, myself, although I haven't played them much. Actually, I thought what the OP meant by "broken" is that the DL campaign has a number of bugs when played on the expansions. The most notorious one I know of is the bug in the scenario code that makes the "Apocalypse" mission impossible by requiring you to defeat the (nonexistant) Krynn rather then the Dread Lords you're supposed to. I thought the races had a

As you've both played the mod, let me ask again: what, specifically, are the major/minor races in the DA version? Also, how do they seem to do in your games? I heard on a much older thread that the 'evil' races got ganged up on and destroyed every time by a Minbari/Vorlon alliance.

One other oddity - for a mod I made, I tried making a few tweaks to the Dread Lords to be a similiar ancient evil race in the mod's setting, among which was giving them black hulls. It didn't work, and I assumed that DL hulls were 'automatically' red. But when I tested giving the Terrans their hulls, they were the normal Terran white/blue. Is it just not possible to mod the DLs?

Anyone know if there's been an update on this? I'm always interested in hard science fiction, and I'd play a mod like this. I'm especially curious to see the engines; there are real theories on how to go FTL and I'd be interested to see if you used one of them. Foxthree - uh, is it just me, or do those race images look... sort of familiar? I'm 90% that's a Borg on the bottom right, and most of the others ring a bell.
Is there a place that has greater information about the different races then just the small paragraph in the manual?
IMO this is the most worthwhile reason to play the campaigns. Sandbox mode is the heart of the game, so I don't know how much you'll enjoy the campaign missions, but they definitely do give the races more personality. I think the DA campaign probably has the most important plotline. You can also find a lot of information about the races by reading some of

Actually, I don't feel the Altarians made a mistake by honoring their alliance. The Arceans were stronger militarily, but their other abilities were really suffering from my destruction of their starbases and the fall of Arcea, where they had built both their manufacturing and economic capitals. This is what I think is the real problem with the AI - they judge a race's strength solely on their military rating. Also, the combined forces of myself and the Altarians, Iconians, and Drengin were m

Introduction: Despite my laziness and poor writing skills, I've been working on an epic AAR based on my very first real game with Galactic Civilizations. Although I finished months ago, I kept extensive notes and have used the many save files I've made to help assemble the story. This is not that AAR. I'm nowhere close to finishing it, but I've noted the gradual disappearance of every author from these forums, and I felt I ought to post something on here to keep the AAR forum

The saga continues! This is certainly among the most exciting wars against a minor race I've read of! BTW, in regards to the information on Admiral Konev and his situation: what exactly is the Navy rank system, anyway? Just curious, as Bradshaw was a Commodore, which in modern navies is outranked by an Admiral - not here, though.

Another possibility could be to try to beat them at their own game by bribing wars between them and other civilizations. With any luck, they'll focus their SA against the other civilizations rather then on you. The best way to do this would be to get them to fight the Altarians so that the Altarian SA causes the other good races to fight them, but this might be hard because they and the Altarians share an alignment. The BEST way to deal with the Drath, as Iztok said, is to w

Huh. Weird. According to the description of the event, the Peacekeepers are robotic drones, so why they look like the Scottlingas is beyond me... As far as the pirates not being at war with the Snathi, it might have do with, as I mentioned above, evil minor races starting at peace with the Dread Lords. Maybe something's similiar here. On the other hand, I've read accounts of the Pirates Mega Event where the pirates did not attack the minor races at all, so that the minors became the s

I'm not that interested in the TA mod. I don't even have TA and I really don't like the thought of not customizing ships. Sounds like you've played both, so what can you tell me about the DA mod? Like I said above, I'd like to know the races (major and minor), their super abilities, how they tend to do in games (especially compared to normal DA races - for instance, does the EA do better or worse then the default Terran Alliance?), and

I've heard those complaints about AI tech trading, and I saw some of that here, but this wasn't quite the same thing. The complaints are about AIs trading techs easily that they refuse to trade at all with the player, but trading with the pirates should be flat out impossible. I've never seen anything like this before, but I don't read a lot of debug.err files either. I doubt this has any bearing, but I've also discovered that the evil minors (Snathi & Dark Yor) begin at peace with t
I had the Torians wanting to trade for my starting techs before I made first contact with them.
This is normal, if weird. I've definitely heard from races before I've met them in my games. I've even heard accounts of races declaring war on the player before first contact, although I've never experienced this personally. So, I've heard things about a Milky Way custom map in one of the expansions. All I really know about it is that there's Dread Lords near the galactic core and that most habitable planets require extreme colonization techs. Can anyone who's played the map share some information about it? It sounds like a pretty neat idea. In particular, I'm wondering: 1. What effect do the Dread Lords have on the course of play? I tried the 'Unlimited Power' scenario in DL, which featured Dread

Wow, you just can't get along with those Torians, can you? Did the Zeus colony mentioned defect, or did they invade it? I suspect the latter as you aren't at war with them... Liking the angle the story's taking - it's nice to see an AAR from the perspective of 'the common man' rather then the civ leader or a similiarly important position. Like the screenshots too. Screenshots are always good, and map screenshots are among the best. Personally, I think every AAR that isn't a to

So, after my last game (DL, version 1.53), I was randomly going through the debug.err file to read up on the AI's tech trading, and I came across something weird. One of the tech trades was: Debug Message: Year: 2232. Snathi traded Shields to the Pirates! in exchange for Impulse Drive This is truly bizarre. Not only is it impossible to communicate with the pirates in any fashion, as they don't have planets, but the only pirates to appear all game were those that popped u

This might not be a bug. I frequently (for story reasons) begin already knowing the Arceans as the Terrans or vice versa, and I can think of other examples. If these starting relations aren't specifically reset when beginning a new game as Willy describes, you'll have the same relations with your new race.
Personally I would say, the Yor. Their Miniaturization-bonus gives them a warship bonus everytime, which is esp. strong in the beginning. But it's really the map itself that decides that.
Hmm. The Yor used to be horribly weak, but lately they've become much stronger. They were, fittingly enough, my main antagonist in one of those Iconian games. Actually, both the Drengin and Yor seem to become much stronger as I move up difficulty levels, compared to other races. <

A couple of questions to anyone who's played this mod: What's the full list of major and minor races? In DA, what super abilities does each race have? I think some are pretty obvious (Shadows - Super Manipulator), but others I'm stumped on (Narns - ?) Just random things I'm wondering. Also, are Vorlon/Shadow ships customizable? How does that work? I know the defaults use invisible components or something to prevent the ships from looking comically ugly...
