This deserves to fail horribly if for no other reason then Valve's BS attempt to trademark "DotA", which is something they had nothing to do with and Icefrog has no particular claim to either (as simply the current maintainer of something created by people before him).
Yes exactly, but you know, this are Valve and Icefrog joining together, and somehow both are inmmensely regarded by each of their own fan base
I'm assuming the GOG version is compatible with the Co8 updates? If so, I'll definitely pick it up. Been a long time since I had my disks.
It is, and this version has additional materials too.
Valve's interest is that people consider the other dotas like HoN and LoL the second rate clones. They're naming the game "Dota 2", so they'll sell it as the only true Dota succesor. I dont know how the Source engine will run a game like this. It's not exactly a FPS. Will it look like Alien Swarn? If it's too different then longtime Dota fans won't play it. I think they're just going for name branding with "Dota 2" and making this the next TF2 and L4D. By that I'm sayi
Anyone read that icefrog tell-all by a disgruntled Valve employee??

They're on a 2d8 roll. - Othello
Yeah they are. And they're not done yet. BG2 is expected in the next weeks. Amazing that ToEE is $6.

What alternatives do we have to sensationalist journalism as relates to technology? I used to watch TechTV before comcast replaced the network with g4. Some of the old gang has moved to Rev3. Patrick Norton, Roger Chan, Robert Heron... Good stuff. I frequently watch Tekzilla to keep abr

BFBC2 original or that new expansion ??
When's the open beta finished? I want to try it before this open beta expires.
I'¡ve been wanting to try this game. Is it that bad MP? Anyone know if there'll be a SP demo?
How come he hasnt been interviewed regarding the Infinity Ward debacle? I'd like to see what he has to say regarding IW. Maybe he's worried that black ops won't be such a chart topper with similar titles like medal of honor being out at the same time.
I think Mk. Kotick should just start selling his mocked avatars found everywhere on the web. How come he hasn't recognized the amount of profit it could bring in cashing in on the sheer anger he generates on the web.

By independent Kotick, Bungie, and that ex-bungie guy they all refer to a company that's not a part of a big corporate conglomerate, not in a grass roots way. To them the bunch of guys making games on their garages dont matter.
Agree with the OP. Let's face it. Civ 5, along with Civ 4 and Civ: Revolutions are for what I call, the "Squishy Generation". In the squishy generation, games are more automated, they usually have lots of sliders to manage things for you, and they have a "less is more" feel to them. Graphics are more stylized, quantity has been severely cut for "quality's" sake, and the interface is laid out with giant but

Dont see what was the big changes that needed a complete maintenance. They've only changed the layout a bit and added some worthless "mix" button. Their community area still is borked, and their downloads and overall site are slow. And no, it's not because of everyone downloading their games.
I wont be buying from them again when they relaunch. I'll just get the games i already bought and go somewhere else.
IMO another big reason is elimination of second hand sales.
I'd say that's the biggest reason, more so than the piracy one. They want to turn games into a service which you don't own and therefore you can't resell. Same old greedy anti-consumer terms of service.
One competitor cant just arrange a deal that keeps the others from selling the same product. It's not a publisher&developer&valve deal, it's just competition. This is starting to look like M$ with their saying what goes pre-installed on every copy of Windows.
Bah! So no go for Civ5. A steam free version requires a change to the DRM method, patch distribution....
It is technically possible to rip out the Steamworks component, like in the cases of the games I mentioned. Whether D2D will do it, who knows.
Quoting coreimpulse, reply 637 It was mentioned here in other thread that Valve doesnt get a % for a steamworks game sale if the game is purchased on brick and mortar stores. I dont know if that's the case, but if it is it's some kind of boycott to Valve's bottom line. They get no money from it and they have to provide bandwidth for it. SP games should not have this online Steam DRM.
