Sounds like you may need to uninstall as something has gone awry. You should still be able to &#115elect skins from the Display Properties-?Appearance tab just like before. Set your style to the default XP, uninstall WB, reboot and then re-install. Are you by chance using StyleXP? Not sure that makes any difference though because I know there are probably several people here using both without any problems. Good Luck!

I don't really have any experience creating logons myself, just tweaking logons when they are created resolution dependent but I can say that they absolutely do not have to be created for a specific resolution. Take a look in the library and find the recent logons by Brewman, he creates his resolution independent so they work even at my less than standard 1920X1200. So, take the time to learn how to create your logons for all resolutions and I'm sure you'll get more downloads. As far as the grap

Well, I just started using FireFox as my primary browser because I discovered the Yahoo Companion is available for it (I can't live without the bookmark feature). I've used Opera in the past and was less than impressed by it. There are still a few rough edges on FireFox that I'm sure will get squared away, but I'm gonna have to cast my vote for FF. It's not just the browser but the wide array of Extensions that are available that make it my choice (for the time being)..

On a somwhat similar note as Black Xero, when you double-click these items does your HDD light flash for a long time before the window pops up? If so, try defragmenting your HDD. Even if you use NTFS after a while it will suffer a performance hit if you don't defragment it occassionally. Also, you could run scandisk to check for bad sectors. Are you running low on memory by chance? Maybe some system info would help us try and narrow the problem down.

That's how applications use IE. There's an ActiveX control that you simply use to provide browsing functionality in your application. If Gecko doesn't provide it's browser piece as an ActiveX control then it would be far too much trouble to use to be worthwhile. It's a matter of time invested versus gains achieved..

Macromedia products (or other similar, multiwindowed software). Interesting you should point this out in your quest for bugfree software because Macromedia products have more bugs than you can shake a stick at. DW MX frequently crashes just because it wants to, the support for RDS connections leaves much to be desired and don't even get me starte

bummer, too bad it doesn't work for you but for myself and I'm sure lots of other people OD+ was not only worth it, it was a steal for all the extra functionality you get. I haven't had any problems with crashing since the early betas, were you using the latest version? Are you sure there isn't something else on your computer that is causing the instability with OD+? Have you even bothered visiting the news groups to try and see if someone there can help you with your problem? The developer visi

so will I need to setup my personal skinning page to access my skins section? I went to the Beta site, logged in all was good really like the layout love the navigation but I noticed there's no My Skins link anywhere.. I do have the option of creating my personal skinning site I've just shyed away from it up to this point.. Is that what I need to do here? TIA!

Any chance you might have something else running that is causting this instability with OD? I run WB, OD+, DX and IX on ALL of my machines, including my development machine at work and I never have any problems with crashes. In fact my machine runs for weeks between reboots without the hint of a crash.. If you really like the systray option in OD+ then create yourself a tabbed dock with one tab, the tray and viola problem solved. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/smile.gif" bor

werewolf, If you just want to update your WB but not necessarily have the newest changes applied immediately don't bother shutting WB down just update it. It will tell you to reboot, just hit the cancel button and go on your merry way until you are at a point that you can reboot. I do this all the time and never have any issues. As far as why you are prompted to reboot, it may be the installer, or there may have been a locked file. Unloading WB is a start but did you make sure

mayhap This is great! Was this an early morning combination of maybe and perhaps?!? Anyway, I'd love to get my hands on the high res version of bootskins seeing as all of my machines work just fine with all of the pre-release versions! I guess I'll just have to be patient a while longer... Man, I hate being patient.. <img src="http://ima

Just as a matter of interest, what makes/models were/are those machines? Let's see... custom box: ASUS P4S533 w/ Leadtek Winfast A250 Ti4600 laptop: DELL Inspiron 8600 ATI video (not sure of the exact BIOS rev) Work Box: Some DELL don't remember the make off the top of my head. Oh, and it's on my other custom box that my

From what I can see, these bugs are caused by hacks of the operating system. Actually, from what Brad has said on the topic in the past the problem is caused by some BIOS and/or mobo manufacturers having shoddy VESA implementations in some BIOSes.. As you said, it's probably caused by some engineer noticing that if he only supports half the stand

Well, if DXWinAMPInfo.dll is an automation Dll, in other words an ActiveX Dll then you can instantiate it and use the methods on the object to do the work you are wanting to do. It would be something like: Dim myObj Set myObj = CreateObject("DXWinAMPInfo") and then you could call methods with: myObj.getSomething myObj.setSomething etc.. HTH, it's probably not exactly right but should give you enough to get started. Good Luck!

ah, yes. The @ symbols in the username are most certainly the problem. He might be able to use the escaped version of an @ symbol which is & # 3 8 (minus spaces of course). Hope this helps..

what IDE are you using for your .NET development? I've been using VS 2003 and I have no problems using it while running WB.. What kind of problems are you having? You could just exclude your IDE from WB so it doesn't get skinned. I've had to do this with DW MX because it has funky panels that WB doesn't like too much..

I gotta say, after that title and the beginning of the message I was starting to get a bit miffed, and then I noticed that this message was from a person who actually did the footwork for themselves instead of buying into the crap that some people still spread all over newsgroups of various other sites.. The main offender is ChiChiGirl who had a disagreement with Brad and instead of handling things like an adult she decided to jump the fence and start spreading the resource hog story with the re

well, you could use a loop and add a zero until the length is 6. for(var i = 0 HexValue.length == 6 i++) HexValue += "0" I leave it to you to convert this to VBScript.. I'm not fond of VB's syntax and so avoid it at all costs..

I just tried this myself and mine dropped from 333,976 to 316,300. Of course this is probably partially due to the WB config dialog closing along with WB. The only reason people here point at the memory usage of wbload.exe as windowblinds' memory usage is because there are some people who believe that because there is no process visible in the task list that an application that will remain nameless uses less memory. Anyway, considering my agerage commit charge is around 300MB with WB loaded and

actually, they wouldn't need to be named anything special.. The only requirement would be that the names be in the array. I was simply following your naming convention but the code will work with an array like: myArray = new Array("bob.jpg", "jane.jpg", "bill.jpg", "bluesky.jpg") This would cause each image to be loaded one after the other.

8 Replies 2,375 Views

well, I've not done any image preloading in a while but if you don't need to re-use the image objects you can create an array with all of your image names like so: var myArray = new Array("image1.jpg", :image2.jpg", "image3.jpg", etc...)^ Then, you can have a function loop through the array loading each image as it goes: for(var i = 0^ i var tPic = new Image()^ tPic.src = "http://yoururl.com/images/" + myArray[i]^ } Thi

you might want to post about this on the news server in the ObjectDock group as the programmer for OD frequents that group. I'm not employed by StarDock, just an avid user you might say.. It really sounds like OD is trying to re-use your existing processes instead of launching a new one like it's supposed to. It works fine for me here, did you by any chance install OD+ over the standard OD? I've seen some strange behaviour with docks that were created with the standard OD under OD+.. Anyway, goo

at least for the doc shortcuts it sounds like you have ed the option to re-use existing programs when a link is clicked. When you use word as your editor in Outlook it leaves a winword.exe process running, probably for the preview window. Try killing that process and see if you are able to launch the doc shortcuts. Check the Advanced options and see if you have this option checked: When shortcut is run, if program is already running bring it to the foreground only If this is ch

Hopefully soon there will be a better version of Bootskin which will use 16m colours I woudln't hold your breath on that one.. I think they've all but abandoned BootSkins because of the problems they experienced trying to support all of the HW vendors' unique VESA implementations. I would LOVE to see the high color capable version though!!
