I don't mean the overall game preferences, I mean my sliders mostly. The default tech to research is Weapons Theory, I want it to be Comm Theory. The default spending is 33/33/34, I want it to be 42/16/42. Taxes are 33(?), I want 42, and so forth. The game settings work just fine wrt difficulty, alignments, size, etc. Scott

I looked but didn't see this previously addressed, hard to believe! I always start my games with the same settings - production, research, economy, etc. It is a minor hassle to reset them from the default each time I start a game. Is there a file somewhere that would let me set the initial tax rates, research project, earth's production, etc. so that I didn't need to change it for each new game? -Scott

Just noticed this and confirmed it for myself. When messing with sliders, the research time-to-completion varies with the position of the slider, not the actual percentage allocated. I think this is new; how I checked it: go to the sliders in a new game. Without touching the other sliders, adjust social to 0. Now mil is 50, res is 50 (or 49/51, whatever). Time to complete xx theory is yy months. Slide both mil and research to the top of their bars, both should still be set to 50.

Yar, finally had to give up on Maso, back to crippling. Staffa, looks like most civs now will not give up their $$ if they can avoid it. With .59 trading techs seems a bit more reasonable to me. I'm mainly working trade now, get it fast and max it out if I can. Also giving myself high research bonuses so I can sort of keep up with the AI while still building stuff. Bye bye PQ bonus! Scott

I have, that's why I specified "in this thread" :) It's up to the devs to decide priorities, but they can't know something is a bug unless it bites them while they play (do they even play the game? I know I'd probably be sick of it!!! :)) or someone tells them. Sometimes what I think is a bug (this has happened several times) is just a tweak, sometimes it isn't. If you think something is inconsequential and I don't, who wins? Again, it's up to the devs. There's a few people that need to be

JG and TheHamster, did you read his posts in this thread? I don't always agree with CM but he's been nothing but constructive in this thread. You guys, on the other hand, are out of line. Frogboy, what's with the swipe at trekkies? Not a fan myself, but that was kind of out of character for you. AI jumping techs is a bug, not a balancing tweak. I know you'll fix it when you get time to track it down, but don't bugs get a high priority for engineering time? Folks, pointing out bugs is one

I think I saw this elsewhere... I captured the diplomatic translators from the carnotids(sp?) and even a few turns later they weren't showing up in my trade queue - this was very early in a game and there was no possible way this race had had contact with any other races (e.g. hadn't traded them away yet). I just noticed this thread, after posting in a different thread about virus elimination. In my latest game (1.04.59) the altairians showed up with virus elimination tech and not Organic Piecing or Genetic Mapping. I'm also having crash bugs, hard to pin down but I _think_ it is happening when I theoretically finish researching two techs, i.e. almost done with one, hit anomoly for +25%, it's enough to finish the next tech in line as well. This was definately the case once, possibly o

I saw this again in my latest game. Altairians showed up with virus elimination, noone else had it, Altarians did not have Organic Piecing or Genetic Mapping. Currently playing 1.04.59. Scott

OP here. This thread has gotten pretty ugly, and I'm surprised to see it ugly on both sides. You guys that are attacking the devs ("lazy") are way out of line. Like I said above, this game has far and away the best AI I've ever seen. The support, updates, feedback and bug fixes have been outstanding. I've been a stardock fan since the OS/2 days, and you will not find a company that supports it's customers better than this. As far as I'm concerned, the 1.04 patch was superb except f

xiahou and others, the point isn't really that the game is hard, it's that a major game mechanic has been changed to dodge what some people think is a "cheese" tactic. As was somewhat untactfully stated above, these changes are being made to block people that have found ways to _beat_ the game mechanics, not _win_ the game. There are only so many unique things to build in the game, now about 1/4 of them have had their value trashed. Ah, I'm not really as worked up about it as I may sound. A l

Some of us, experienced players, were not having any trouble with the game being too easy. The trade value is completely out of proportion with the cost and benefit of the item - why call them "trade goods" at all? Other ways to fix the problem include making them non-purchasable (though this makes more sense for wonders than trade goods) during construction, or massively scaling up the purchase cost the less complete they are (more than is already the case, I mean). A tech that costs umpteen

Having played a bit on incredible in 1.04, I have to say the trade good nerf was over the top. Just had two empires surrender to the #1 and #2 survivors, both of whom are hostile to me, so that game is pretty much over. I think what I would say is that I don't mind the AI getting bonuses for difficulty, but this seems like they are playing under different rules when I up the difficulty. I have literally no leverage with any of the AIs, major or minor, because nothing I can trade is worth anyt

Went back to an early save on the game I mentioned w/ 26 +46%, playing on w/o buying tradegoods. Actually, all the empires seem to be broke, so I am keeping up better than I used to. Drengin and Altairians have most goods (this is on Gigantic galaxy) and I am only a few techs behind tech wise. More as events warrant. :) PS RE Empire invite - can't find a PM function if there is one; sure, I'll join. How? Scott ~SDC~
