My trade goods are much more expensive, which is not really a problem. They are much more effective, which is super (DipTrans +40, GravAccel +20, etc), they are also worthless in trade! Noone will pay $$ for them, I can get 1 maybe 2 low level techs for them. This is at Incredible. The minors I've run into have all been completely broke, even very early on. Did something get tweaked wrong, or is this the future? Completely devalues trade goods for me - they have no trade value!!!

In several games lately, I have noticed other civs with the Virus Elimination tech and none of the prerequisite techs. If I hadn't seen it in at least 3 recent games I would assume that they had traded for it, but it just keeps popping up. Could be that there is a random event involved or something, but I suspect a (minor) bug. Scott PS this was going to be a bug post/feature request but all of them but the above got fixed/added/tweaked in 1.04 per the readme. Time to update

I've been submitting my scores to the metaverse off and on since release. Last week (on the 24th) I submitted a score, and was ranked 39 or so. Today I submitted another, and was ranked 308th. Any particular change made that caused this sharp drop in rank? I play vanilla Galciv, no mods or anything. What's up? Scott ~SDC~

Standard disclaimer: I haven't seen this posted yet, no easy way to search these forums, blah blah. When I talk to a minor race and then go back to the "uber" minor race relations screen the image and empire title presented are those of the "lead" major race, not the first minor race. Clicking on "speak to" works correctly - takes me to the first minor race. Clicking the arrows back and forth works fine. Starting up minor relations for the first time works fine. Only leaving after

Several people have suggested wormholes as the problem, remember that only survey-type ships can hit those, we are seeing colony ships doing it. I've seen this with the most recent patch (1.03.56 or whatever the exact decimal is!). The times I've seen it have been too early for starbases to be effective - remember that constructors move at 1 until impulse drive - the initial ship would have to wait until a starbase got built in a useful position, which a) would take a long time and b) represen

For me, I know that things are a bit weird-looking when I hit ctrl-n to create a new map, then straighten out once I start moving things. Could it be that that initial ships for the AI are created and given ranges based on the previous start? I've seen this bug, but I usually restart a few times before I am happy with my start. Just a thought.

Hook, I've seen this multiple times, by both major and minor races. It also works both ways - sometimes I will get a message that a wonder/TG has been completed by another race and it will _not_ disappear from my queue. Later, I will be able to trade it to any race but the other one that completed it. Other times they will finish it after I have. This is a fairly major bug for GalCiv. I like being able to say that, because at worst I would rate it as "medium" importance. The other bugs/pro

Does the AI buy a lot of their ships? They seem to pump out constructors and colony ships like crazy. I max my spending to 100%, though I keep the sliders at their default most of the time. By the time my first constructor is done, each AI seems to have a dozenor so starbases built. Drives me crazy, and is also why I am happy to see starbases in the diplomacy screen.

If this is an ongoing problem with your system/monitor, why not replace one or both? 17" crt monitors can be had new for less than USD150, and far less used. I don't suggest that you do it in order to play GalCiv, simply because you note that it is an ongoing problem. A new monitor would only be the price of 2 or 3 new computer games, after all.

Why not let trade happen with your own planets? Make trade with AI planets more profitable with a bonus, sure. I often wind up absorbing planets that I have a trade route with, and the trade route doesn't go away - nor should it. It'd make things a bit easier when you get into a war and lose major trade routes - set up a few "behind the lines" 'til the war is over. Just a thought. Scott

In my last few games I have had a gigantic tech advantage from turn 1, and buy most wonders/tradegoods after a few turns of building to take the edge off the cost. Most games, though, have the Drengin empire (exclusively) completing the galactic stock exchange and the galactic monument(?) very, very early - I'm not even close to the techs needed. They usually have 4-6 planets at this stage (I've usually got 15+) and have a huge fleet. Is the AI cheating? I'm playing all AI races at Genius/Sm

I've been playing a 5C for the last few days, and have adopted the perfect strategy; unfortunately, it is pretty easy to do and needs some tweaking to prevent! I head first for diplomacy(dip translators) then for basic life support(?) (whatever gives aphrodesiac) and build/buy them asap. Virtually any empire I run into will sell their entire empire (all ships, $, influence and planets) for those two. If I ask for much _less_ than everything, they refuse. Not sure exactly what the thr

I just finished a game with 2x genius, 3x smart where I won in a huge galaxy via military conquest. I never built a transport or, for that matter, any warship. I simply built every trade good (via purchase, if needed) and traded for ships, techs and planets. Last holdout was the arceans. Once they were down to three planets they traded for about 8 techs and hypercomputers(?). They were losing ~1 planet/3 turns due to my influence, and I kept trying to buy them out until they accepted. <

Accidentaly noticed this post - exactly the problem I have encountered several times now, never connected it to the lost elections but this is exactly right. I've played the pacifists, and this bug comes up when they lose an election. Dunno if anyone else has made the connection so consider this a *bump*

This game is really shaping up. I think it will be a winner at 1.0, and even better as the later versions with new features are released. I have some suggestions... Suggestions: User interface - let me zoom the main map. At start this isn't really a big problem, but as my ranges increase, I can't see all the places my ships can reach in one turn. User interface - let me annotate the minimap. Others have mentioned it, I'll add my vote to it. Nothing complicated, just a dot o

I often encounter 2 bugs similar to these. First, I will suddenly have an extended sensor range without any clear reason. Soon after that (not 100% sure they are connected, but it's happened twice now) my influence skyrockets and planets start joining me like crazy. The numbers don't seem high, like in previous betas, but still enough to get planets to join and 10+ per turn will come over. What I see is all of the grids turn blue, no other influence squares visible. Scott

I've not played as much as most beta testers, so maybe that makes me more qualified to answer! Hitting enter to close a message window is very natural to me. In GalCiv it ends the turn instead. I make this mistake a lot... Morale and influence will need a good thrashing out, maybe in the appendix, with a detailed explanation of how each works and how to influence (sorry) them. How does morale effect production, if at all? Things like that. Right click to autopilot

I've played several games with a variety of large and amusing bugs. The last game was the most fun. At some point late in the game, my influence flipped up to 4 digits in most alien sectors. That is, while my best worlds had values like 45, 88 and such, on all alien worlds all over the map it went to 4000+, in one case to 10000+. Needless to say, I won the game as 3-5 planets/turn joined my side. Related bug: one planet joined me, and the former owner invaded and reconquered it w
