If you can get the hotfix, it may well help. Do you have the heightmaps module installed? Using the heightmaps module and turning down your planet surface variety to zero can save you 100-200 MB on a gigantic galaxy, but it wouldn't help with your save game. We're working on reducing the memory footprint of GalCiv2 as well by kicking stuff out of memory that isn't currently being used.

Alexender000 or anyone else who has been able to circumvent the problem by alt-tabbing: Have you ever tried running in a window, and does it make a difference if you do?
Scanner28, try running in a window...that error usually doesn't happen if you're running in a window, and now that your resolution matches your desktop resolution, it will still appear fullscreen and the mouse will act as if it's fullscreen. But Alt+Tabbing will be quicker and as I said, that error usually doesn't happen when running in a window. If you still get it, try dropping your anti-aliasing down to 4.
My major complaint with Vista has been the driver issues. We still get support e-mails and posts on the forums almost every week from people who have NVidia cards and we have to tell them to go to NVidia's website and get the latest drivers. But the poor laptop users STILL don't have the 158.24 drivers, so the only way they can get the updated drivers is to go to a third party site like laptopvideo2go that modifies the drivers from the NVidia site. <
Nope, that's not a memory issue. Try changing your game resolution to match your desktop resolution (1280x1024). If you still get that error, try running in windowed mode.
Scanner28, it looks like you posted an old debug.err. Check Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar for the latest one.
maybe we should do away with the tax return all together. i mean you have lived a year without it anyways. Hell no, that's my money and I want it!
I built my first computer last summer, or rather, I bought all the parts and had my friend assemble it since he's done it before. I liked being able to pick out all my own parts, and I haven't had any problems apart from the computer overheating last summer when it was really hot even in the basement where the computer lives. I'll probably build my next one in another 4-5 years too; I have more problems with my dell laptop, although the majority of th
Hmmm...I don't think that there's a hardcoded limit...checking the code now... Well, it doesn't look like there's any hardcoded limit for the number of techs in a branch. You must have an error with one of your pre-requisites or something.
Believe me, we never get tired of people saying thank you.
Brackard, Those drivers don't have the fix. You need drivers that are version 158.24 or higher. My suggestion is to e-mail HP and ask them when new drivers will be available. The more of you who e-mail them, the more incentive they have to update their drivers. In the meantime, http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ has modified drivers that should help. Before you install them, though, you should check the terms and conditions of
I am 6 ft 2 inches tall and weigh 205 and according to the latest BMI. {body mass Index} I am overweight by 20 pounds, Will Smith the actor is labeled obese by the BMI for his weight to height ratio. bah! Ugh. And I used to think that BMI was valid. I doubt that Will Smith is unhealthy. I go
Locamama, companies (particularly hospitals and other medical facilities) are aready starting to ban smokers, not just smoking in the workplace. Here's one article from here in Detroit: http://www.detnews.com/2005/metro/0501/27/A01-71823.htm I think it's a good idea to offer discounts to people who are healthy; that's like getting a better deal on your car insurance because you're a safe driver. But to say that fat people are going
For the most part, I would vote no. As others have said, if the child doesn't learn how to control his/her weight through other means, the fat will just come back. Also, if the child has become obese, chances are the parent doesn't know how to teach the child to control his/her weight. After educating parent and child, if they make an honest effort to lose the weight and it doesn't help, then more extreme measures might be considered after consultin
Can you please zip and send me your latest save game from the campaign (My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Dread Lords Campaign) to [email protected] and I'll take a look at it. Be sure to tell me what I'm looking for in the e-mail because I get a lot of e-mail.
You can turn off anti-aliasing from the Prefs.ini file, which is located in Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 for the base Dread Lords game, and Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar for Dark Avatar. In either case, set Multisample=0.
Have you tried turning off anti-aliasing? I doubt that there are newer drivers for your video card, but you may want to check the Dell site anyway just in case.
GalCiv2 isn't set up to start in 16 bit from the settings anymore, but it will attempt to start in 16 bit color if everything else it tries fails. However, at the very least it wouldn't look right because all of the textures are 32 bit.
gkaras, that shouldn't be possible that it would have deleted all of your save games unless you tried saving over all of them when you got the out of memory bug. Or did you only autosave? Did you check your Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder to see if the files were actually there? SmartException reports should be sent to [email protected]
Does it also happen if you uncheck the Fullscreen option? (It will require that you restart GalCiv2). It sounds like you're definitely having some kind of error with the drivers, but if we play with the settings a bit we might be able to work around it.
scotty, in Stardock Central, go to Tools->Register Products, click on the game tab, and enter your Dark Avatar serial number.
Does the updated version on the SDC contains the mini-map patch? No. The minimap fix appeared to work for me, but of the two people who tried it so far, one of them e-mailed me back and said that the problem still existed. If you want to try an updated copy, you can try this link: http://sd.stardock.com/carielf/da_1_6c.zip
Atlan, It sounds to me like your shortcut is pointing in the wrong place. Where are you trying to run the game from? Stardock Central or the Games Explorer? Raknor, A fix for the weird lines on the minimap bug. I didn't post it publicly because I wanted to hear back from the people who e-mailed me their save games first.
Is this reproducible from a save game? If so, please zip the save game and send it in with the screnshot and your debug.err file to [email protected]
I put one in the bug reports section as well.
