we've done touch screen interfaces, it just means the buttons need to be bigger. Any artist here can make a button bigger when they're designing the UI.
see that's how you do it. Also you should go to a specific skin section here and sort the section by most downloads or i think you can sort by ratings. That's a good way to headhunt for some new talent.
Some more words of advice for artists looking to make money doing this kind of thing: After you negotiate a price for the job whether it's an hourly job or a flat rate you need to ask for 50% of the total cost of the project (flat rate or the estimated hourly total) and then when you're done you need to get the final 50% before you turn over any source files. Once you give a company the source files you're at their mercy. So protect yourself and make sure you hold the cards, not them. W
monstavision: i'm going by your offer. You said you can't afford to pay for something you don't like. True? Why should an artist spend their valuable time working to show you something you may not buy? It doesn't work that way. It's like a job interview. You ask artists to send samples of their work and then you negoitate a price after showing them what the job is all about. That's how it's supposed to be done. That way no one wastes time or money. You want these guys to work in the hopes that y
and grayhaze: that did come off a bit cocky, more than i intended but it's also true. Look at our client list after only 3 years in business. Come on we earned the right to be a little cocky doncha think?
I was simply offering someone the opportunity to add us to their resume and get paid for it. First of all if you were worth adding to these artist's resumes you'd have enough money to pay for the spec skins to begin with. I have yet to see a company who was worth adding to a portfolio not be able to "pony" up the cash to get work done.
Isn't modesty a wonderful thing? Isn't it though? More like "confidence" and the fact that i can back up my boasts.
I definitely don't give that out to other skinners You need to price your work by a number of factors: 1) How good you are. We're probably the best interface studio out there except for companies like Frog Design. So we can charge a higher rate. We have a strong portfolio which backs up our higher rate fees. If your portfolio is weaker than you'd like it to be then you need to charge less
SoliD_NuTs - that's confidential information sorry.
yeh lock em both. He needs to get a clue.
oh after reading this one, no way he can afford us haha. Besides what reputable artist has the time to work on spec? How about you give me some free LED screens to try out and if i like them maybe i'll buy them?
Oh you want that kind of skin? damn.
For you China - less than zero [Message Edited]
citizens aren't even supposed to have the right to comment according to the hierarchy explanations.
question is can he afford me? I'm curious to know what Matt considers "market rates." Considering companies like TSF and Frog Design charge higher than your average art studio i have a feeling he's going to suffer from "sticker shock" when he learns our prices [Message Edited]
i emailed him. he'll be back [Message Edited]
Oh and we don't work on spec. You would be charged for the 2-3 skins of course at our "market rates."
Matt, You can check out my company at www.theskinsfactory.com Jeff
the rip is so minimal that i wouldn't worry about. Your skin is light years nicer. Actually it's damn good.
Hey cut him some slack China, he's a miami boy Apocalypse: i'm up in Broward County
Really what it comes down to is this: if you as say a parent don't take care of your own health, financial situation, etc. then how can you take care of your child? You can't. Same thing goes for the american economy. If we can't take care of our own economy then how can we take care of other's economies? I believe in a global economy 1000%. But i think there needs to be a cap or limits on how much you give away. Between americans donating to other countries, americans buying goods from
TSF is a company not a person. I just happen to own and run it but it's powered by it's artists. And no i don't worry about overseas competition because i know 1) we're so far ahead when it comes to our portfolio's quality, 2)It's a niche market we're in and 3)I've made strong relationships with the companies i work for i.e. Microsoft, Warner Bros. There will always be competition that's a no-brainer. I hire artists for the quality, not where they are from. But in the case of shipping a
that was a really good (long too) article. Thanks for pointing that out.
