Pointers really aren't going to help with this. All of the critical work is simply artwork, and re-cutting of the frames, which really has nothing to do with skin studio. So , what I am saying is, you really need no help with that portion, maybe with where to find things in sks and such after the fact. It would be a feat, and I see a big issue with vert taskbar , and how that would work.? Otherwise, several layers to the start menu, and some animation layers, you could probably succeed, just let the vert be what is. Also, an issue with the search box might occur, although, with some creative thought, you may get around that also. I say yes, but have no idea what your talking about as far as the design, never saw what you refer too.

I wonder if you mean the small pop up ballon,AKA....ToolTip? If so, open skin studio, go to Edit tooltip and tree controls, tool tip background. Some programs may also use, colors set in skin defined colors, tooltip text, and tooltip. If not that or GMC's suggestion, maybe you mean group boxes, or combo boxes? Those are under edit controls, combo box.

I noticed also, you have arrows pointing to the caption or top frame and possibly the command background, is your desire to lighten the whole black look? If so, skin studio pro and a recolor of the skin if you have it, otherwise, you could use either of the previous suggestions.
You won't have much luck with color settings because of the black. You could open the taskbar image with a art program{adobe or such} and enhance the brightness and contrast without to much trouble, would be glad to assist, just need a skin name and I can tell you how. I may be safer than you all, I rarely open mail and download at home, that is what my laptop is for, and it is disposable as far as what is on it. Just daily stuff, no long term. I think clicking save or not it got saved, try reinstalling wb now, if you have not, but delete manually the wb folder with the skins to be sure the get restored when reinstalling. My suggestion anyhow.Looks somewhat like a transparency issue with the explorer windows and text, something got corrupted. Sometimes, I have to delete saved themes from the windows desktop properties, themes setting to rid a corrupted look like your image. Just suggestions, good luck.

There are XP based skins for window blinds here at Win Customize, but you can not use a 7 theme for XP, nor can you use the WBA file anywhere but through windowblinds. If you are trying to open a skin to edit for xp, you need: Skin Studio!{found at Stardock store!} This will allow you to make a skin of your liking, for your operating system! Hope that helps.
