Here's Number 2. It's the closed folder icon. Model: The model was created using the spline tool. I drew the outline of the folder as if it was completely opened. I then extruded it with 2 segments. Then, I converted it to an editable poly. I chamfered the side edges to give it a more curved look. Then, I used the slice plane to cut it 8 times at the fold. Finally, I used the bend tool at 180 degrees on the Z-Axis with the 8 fold edges. Texture: The texture is a 2

Before I say anything else, I would like to state that the overall style of this entire set of icons by Pete Draper's article on Pearlescent Spray Paint Link I did end up making several changes to his sample texture before I decided to recreate it from scratch. However, I was only able to do so based on the information I learned in his article. It's truly a great read, and his art

Maybe it's the all the drive add-ons, maybe it's all the software updates, or maybe it's the networking and device connections... ...maybe it's all those things, but, I think consoles are pushing themselves to towards the low end gaming PC market. MercuryNews.com - For parents considering buying the Xbox 360 as a holiday gift, one final word of warning. New game systems tend to attract hard-core older gamers who are willing to pay a premium for a new console -- just to have it first. A number of the limited new titles available at launch -- including A
Digital distribution of games has existed since BBS systems. And while online shareware did to well for some game development houses, it wasn’t until Valve released Steam that everyone started taking a closer look at digital distribution. Gamers, developers, and publishers all paid attention to the success of Steam. Many are still cautious; however, more have jumped i
We all have our favorite games old games. And we'd love to see them remade with the latest technology. That feeling of nostalgia combined with the latest greatest game engines is something most gamers long for on some level. However, most gamers also feel that there is a great lack of original titles in gaming. Especially when most games are just sequels of p
Did you actually watch Battlefield Earth? I mean the whole movie. I'm asking because I couldn't do it.
But there are hardware standards. As well as PC development standards. The problem isn't that we don't exsist. The problem is that there are simply too many. DirectX, OpenGL, SDL, and so on. Then add these to the development librraries that each hardware vendor makes. The major problem with PC games is that they are on a PC. And the word PC gives most the the general public a stigma. "You have to be a geek." or "I don't understand those type
The mod has certainly grown in popularity and talent in its relatively short life span. I still remember playing Threewave CTF for Quake. Heck, I remember playing Team Fortress for GLQuake and thinking mods won't ever get any better than this. Of course, they did. Especially after the explosion of the worldwide phenomenon known as Counter-Strike, the mod community now
After Reggie's claim that the PSP battery is only two hours and Sony' s lack of response, it would be logical to assume it's true. Or is it? Well, Sony may have an ace up their sleeve they don't plan on showing until all of the cards are out. However, this ace may already be viewable from another closely related application. MP3 players. The iPod claims 12 hours of ba
There have been a lot of PC developers that consistently make good games. But, generally, there's usually one game in a developers history I just don't like. Bungie. I loved Marathon, Myth, and Oni. But, I don't like Halo. Blizzard, I loved Starcraft and Warcraft. But, I don't like Diablo. Epic. I love UT, but, I don't like Unreal. id. I loved Doom, Quake and Wolfenst
A PC Gamer’s look at E3 2004 While everybody else was in looking at the DS and PSP, some of us had other sites in mind. E3 2004 was, for the most part, very accommodating for PC gamers. I got spend some time with PC developers from every major publisher. In fact, there was a Games for Windows section which displayed quite a few windows titles outside of there
I'm up to something. I'm always up to something. But this time, it's a good thing. I’m working on a website to showcase my hobbies and their concurrent activity. I put this together in HTML in about an hour. Here’s a very early, very rough view of one of the pages. http://www.gh33da.com/1600/
By nature of the lifestyle, most gamers are not social butterflies. They sit alone, behind their PCs/consoles and tags (nicknames) and cling to anonymity like a security blanket. This is not to say that they are anti-social. In fact, many gamers have friends and families. However, their social interaction with their loved ones is not exactly the as most non-gamers. For example, a boy/girlfriend or spouse must realize that a gamer has a second love of t
It seems like every generation, consoles are becoming more like Computers. It seems like every Windows version; Computers are becoming more like entertainment systems. Consoles now have networking and internet access. Computers now have Dolby 5.1 and HDTV tuners. The console’s ability to make this adaptation is limited by its standardized platform. Consoles are adapting the latest hardware available every generation. However, computers are adapting the latest hardware available at th
Pro Gaming leagues have always put thier focus on the player. Using a business model totally aimed a indiviuals in tournament play. This leaves out the biggest draw of hardcore PC gaming. The hardware should be just as much put into the spotlight as the player. Look at who sponsors gamers the most. The hardware vendors would love to see pro gaming take center stage as much as gamers. One the main reasons LANs exsists is to allow gamers to put the rigs to the test as well as themselves. I see your point. One huge problem... How do you define offensive without offending anybody? It sounds odd, but, it's a common problem in society. It's so hard to move foward when we can never agree.
First of all, I would like to state that I understand that the production of music, movies, and games requires a great deal of time. So, the things that are in production now may now be seen until late next year or even 2006. Therefore, by making my statement now, hopefully these words will be heard in just time. A sequel, covers, remixes and remakes can be a wonderful thing. Especially good if the original was great material. Every genre of music has popularized the use of turntables,
The continuous/turn based combat system is actually what turned me away from the game. If it was Final Fantasy turn based, or more like Jedi Academy continuous. I would have been more into this game.
First of all, I think open source is one of the greatest concepts of our time. I love the fact a community of dedicated programmers get together for a common goal. I love that open source technology is developed, for the most part, without capitalist intentions. It’s technology for the people, by the people. Wow, that was overboard. Anyway, with that said, there is one slight problem with open source. It is my belief, and only my belief, that open source distribution companies d

Gamer Hip Hop Head 3D Artist I am a gamer, hip hop head, and 3D artist. Spend at least 20 hours a week gaming, 10 hours on 3D, and the whole day listening to hip hop. I'm listening to Joe Budden right now. There is no doubt in my mind, I'm probably addicted to all three. As for gamer stereotypes, no, I don't know the
