And one thing more, should there be sound? I get no sound at all.

Played my first game with 4a yesterday and the game worked fine on my laptop with only 32MB of graphic memory. Thank you! I settled for a small galaxy and it worked like a charm. Not a single crash for me! Some small bugs and glitches: (1) Usually when a new ship is available a blue semitransparent icon drops on the right side. On occasion this icon did not drop but instead got stuck on the starting point. Still worked, thoug
I got that too. Three starbases on one resource was my maximum. There are two dialogues, one asking to upgrade the starbase and one to create another afterwards.
When I conquer a civilizations last planet with culture nothing is shown to tell me that the race is no more.
I seem to have many starbases on the same resource. Is that possible or am I missing something on the GUI?
You sure about the System Requirements? According to civfanatics Link only 32MB is required for the graphics card. Since I'm limited to that on my laptop I am certainly crossing my fingers.
Ok, but I can probably settle for smaller galaxies and for speed penalties. Thank you for doing what you can!
Hm... Does not seem to be any easy solutions. Thank you anyway for your input! The virtualPC and the VMWare products do not seem to have 3D-functionality so there is no way around it. Guess that I'll have to buy a Windows laptop this time as well.
I'm thinking about a new laptop and personally I think that the Powerbooks seem to be much nicer than anything I have seen in the form of PC laptops. Not wanting to start a war, just my personal preference. For me there are only two reasons for running windows: 1) Galactic Civlization 1 & 2 2) Civilization IV Is there anything available for the powerbook which allows you to run these games? Some kind of an emulation that will still run fast enough to make the gam
Just wondering about the amount of graphic card memory that will be needed in the final product. The earlier betas only required 32MB of memory, but the latest beta requires 64MB. Since I have a laptop with only 32MB of memory that interests me. Galciv II is really the only reason for me to upgrade my laptop since Civilization IV supposedly works on 32MB.
Just got home from travelling in South America (I'm European) for two months and I was flying extensively, about 20 flights in total. Loved your post! I had almost forgotten about the beloved airplan toilets. Nothing like the aisle queue in a 13 hour flight between Sao Paolo and Heathrow. Can't really understand those people who actually CHAT with perfect strangers in the aisle.
Thank you guys! Well, actually I do not even need a monitor, mouse or keyboard since I already have that. They are lousy but still it doesn't matter since the computer is locked up in the closet and I SSH to it remotely from my laptop (or any other computer for that matter).
Well I always like the underdog. That is one of the reasons for using Linux. I have read a bit about AMD systems but there seems to be different sockets. Is the socket 939 the latest and greatest?
And, yeah, forgot, it must work under Linux, but then again I am not aiming for top end hardware so it should not pose a problem.
Hi, Since my old PC died on me Link I need to buy some new hardware to replace the old. But it is a djungle out there and I haven't bought any motherboard since 98. I would like to get some advice. The things I need are: 1) Motherboard (built in graphics, built
Now I finally had some time to test the suggestions. I opened it up and disconnected everything and started to add everything one item at a time, removing the battery and reinserting everything. Still didn't work. The monitor showed the "no signal" message so it seems to work. The strange thing is that the network card shows a light on that must mean that it does get power through the mb but the mb still does not seem to work. When I
Thanks a lot for all the replies! I will give it a shot within the coming days and report back.
Been out travelling for two months and about a month ago my old trusted Linux box (old box from 98 which I use as a file server and general plaything) became unresponsive. Not much to do from abroad (the computer was in Sweden and I was in South America) and I guessed that it was some kind of software problem. However, no I am home and that does not seem to be the case. When I turn on the power, there is power to the CPU fan, there seems to
That saddens me too as I run on the same configuration.
I use as many keyboard shortcuts as I can and know of. However, I would like to be given the option to map different actions to different keys as in other games! That would help a lot creating a layout that works best for me. Perhaps that is added quite simply with the new DesktopX interface technologies?
I would also like to chime in and ask for complete playability using a keyboard. I think Galciv has contributed quite substantially to my carpal tunnel syndrome.
I see no real reason to have a top notch computer to play a turnbased strategy game. Besides some of us really wants it to run on our laptops so we can play wherever we are.
I have noticed some instability, though. Occasional blue screens upon boot. I installed a lot of software at the time so the drivers might not be at fault, but I doubt it. I would advice you to backup before installing.
Yeah, of course, but every minute of developer time used to browse through bug reports would be much better used cranking out new and exciting features and content for the game. But on the other hand, it is their call. Perhaps it is not worth the effort having a public bug list/database.
I think that it would be a good idea to have a public bug database of some kind to reduce the number of reports for the same bug. Since I was not able to run the beta until today I am hesitant what to report. I have neither the time nor the stamina to browse through all forum posts and there is risk of me reporting things all over again. A simple list would perhaps suffice, bugzilla seems to be a bit overkill. Or something in between - a searchable
