Jack, also keep in mind that when Palpatine took power, the existing federation of planets (or at least star democracy of planets) was so bloated and unmanageable that nothing got done. I think history (both real and imagined) will show that there are situations where every government type breaks down. In TBS games, a natural progression of governments that go along with the tech tree and give you advantages that let you get the really good tech and $$ later in the game are a necessa

Maybe there could be a "trust" slider, similar to alignment, that affects how the AIs react to you. There could be options for each long-term contract, and you could choose to end any of thye at any time. If you do, however, other AIs, and not only the one with whom you have an agreement, would trust you less, and be less likely to negotiate with you. If you are paying tribute to someone, and they attack you, you could end the deal without any trust penalty. I am sure this will be
The threat of the random events that 'punish' you for being evil are also a good counterbalance to the benefits of evil morality choices. I have had several games where being evil caused my empire to split into two, with many (most >:( ) of my better planets leaving. Being evil can be fun, but eventually you;ll pay the price.
I agree with Steve about the AutoPilot moving the ship as soon as you click it from the ship list. That is often the last thing you want when going to that window to find a ship.
Maybe the evil governments gain bonuses to production (slavery), even economy (heavy taxation), but they lose internal stability. The game already tends to split up evil societies after a while. Maybe other disadvantages could be a higher rate of loss to other races (defection) or periodic losses of ships and planets (revolt). Maybe integrate a scenario where a race's government falls apart after a major loss in military power, or after the loss of a key system. How about a Galactic event on
Jack, that did fix the problem. Thanks! -Dave
FWIW, it doesn't appear in the build window in any of my games either. -Dave
Maybe for 1.1, you could select whether or not to pay your debts from the economy screen. Non-payment could lead to war, and to distrust and a decrease in your diplomatic skill/influence with other races. i.e. Races will only accpet payment up front from those deadbeat humans. ;) Also, if a race's economy prevents it from making its payments, there is a similar result. -Dave
Next time I will look at the link before I reply. :) Thanks Reaper!
My serial number is what I cannot find.
I re-formatted and can't find my subscription to re-download everything. Any advise on locating it would be appreciated. -Dave
Let me know if there are complete enough, or if you need the entire game. All of these are snipets of a very long file from one game. What prompted me to go through it was getting the inresponsive "done" box after clicking AutoAttack. I had an Overlord well within its range of operation, and when I clicked on AutoAttack, it gave me the "Out of Range" notification and no matter what I did, that screen would not clear. It does not look like an error was logged in the file, as I had to

There is quite a bit of weirdness that happens whenever you restore a game. It seems like the first two or three turns, the game just isn;t all there. If you watch the influence colroation on the map, yours will be at almost nothing until the end of the second turn. Perhaps this is because it is calculated as a multi-turn thread or something? -Dave

Can you request that another Race start a Trade Embargo against someone else? For example, the Scottlingas have a goofy amount of money, and I am protecting them. They are also trading with my enemies, though, and I want to demand that they stop. -Dave
On the ship description screen, the name of the level (rookie, veteran, etc.) for levels 5 and above show "String Not Found".
Is this possible already? If not, it would really help to be able to save my build list from one game to another. -Dave
That makes sense, I guess I was mislead by the statement that my Diplomat makes when first requesting part of a trade that says, "Even though you could crush us like a bug..." I thought they meant that in a military sense. I didn't realize they meant that they could Negotiate me like a bug ;)
I bought a ship in Torian Space to get a look at some territory that I couldn't see. I tried to put the ship, a Starfighter, on AutoAttack, even though it was outside my range. I got the standard message about having to power down and put the crew in stasis to return. Unfortunately, though, clicking the done button does nothing. This isn't quite a CTD, but it will have the same result (kill the game process and restart). -Dave
I'm not really referring to my ability to negotiate with the AI. It is more along the lines of them thinking they can push me around because of superior military numbers. For example, the Torians, who have fewer worlds, fewer people, but more Starfighters, keep threatening me and demanding tribute. I assume they would only do this if they thought I would be intimidated. I have a fleet, however, that would annihilate them. So I guess my issue is just with the AIs' perception of my strength.<
I am clearly more powerful than every other Race, but they all treat me like I am a pansy! Is the AI's perception of my might based mainly on the number of ships I have? I ask this because the Yor seem to think that they are the Big Bully, but have two Battleships and about forty Star Fighters. I have 10 Battleships, a few Corvette and a few Battleaxes. My fleet could crush them, but every time I speak to them in the Diplomacy Screen I have to say, "Even though you could crush us l
Once you trade a good to a Race, can that Race then trade it to another?
