Thanks for the advice, guys, I appreciate it. :) ~SDC~

It won't really be my first time palying, though. I have been playing the Beta for a month or two, and have a good understanding of the game fundamentals. Does 'normal' in the release compare with 'Smart' in the beta? -Dave ~SDC~
From the gameplay examples, it is obvious that the difficulty of the AI in the relase version is much higher than in Beta 5C. So that I don't get obliterated in my first game, what would the Beta Difficulty levels correspond to in the Release Version. For example, I play with all of the AIs on Smart in Beta 5C. What would you recommend I start with in the release verison? -Dave ~SDC~
If that was vague at all, I will re-iterate that you move first, then the AIs. You will always be one-half turn ahead of the AI. -Dave ~SDC~
It is essentially I-Go-You-Go, but the AI uses the time during your turn to calculate its moves/strategies. It will continue to re-calculate based on what you do during your turn. -Dave ~SDC~
Sorry for the double-post here, but I just had a thought. Civ3 had a feature that was called "Preserve Random Seeding" or something like that. It made it so that saving and re-loading did not change the results of random events and battles. I am sure that was a product of how their AI handled the generation of these things, but if the GalCiv AI works in a similar way in that regard, perhaps there could be a similar game option. Then, only the "pure" games of people who preserve the random se
Youa re forgetting that there is an autosave feature that could be set to autosave very turn. Poeple who have an unreliable computer system will definitely take advantage of this, maybe not every turn, but maybe every four or five turns late in the game. The number of saves will NOT be an effective or just way of limiting metaverse submissions. Rasta, when I said 'playing preferences', I was more referring to the person in my example who onl;y plays a turn or two at a time late in gam
Fair enough, I was mostly kidding anyway. :) ~SDC~
What about people who can only play for an hour or two at a time, but enjoy the Gigantic Galaxy games? Those people will reload frequently. It is unfair to have thos people penalized for their playing preferences. The fact is, people are going to save and re-load. It is a fact of the TBS universe. To be honest, I doubt the scores will be drastically affected by this. The people who do that will take MUCH longer to finish their games, and the people who don't will have the opportunity to su
"Any political system where very few have power over the masses will come back in our species. There are cycles to most everything. I saw some kids whereing bell bottom pants the other day." Unless those bell-bottomed kids were standing in line waiting for bread, I think we've seen the last of communism on a grand scale. ;) ~SDC~
I tried to find it, and it looks like it has timed itsself off of the list. If anyone from Stardock has access, may they could re-post, or bump it so that it will be back on the list. I would try to sum it up, but I only read it once or twice, and do not want to butcher the story. -Dave ~SDC~
I agree BoogieBac, allowing the upload of a game more than once, even if there are some subtle differences, opens up too much availabilty for cheating. ~SDC~
Anti-Matter missiles, huh? Was that a joke that I missed, or one of the goodies I can look forward to in the Release version. As a lowly Citizen , I wasn't lucky enough to be included in the Gamma testing, and am still playing Beta 5C. ;) -Dave ~SDC~
From what Brad has mentioned in other posts, this ties in to the back-story of the game. If you look around a little, and find a string about Draginol, there is some information there. I think the game will also provide some clues about this as well, which will unfold as you play. -Dave ~SDC~
I also imagine that one will not be able to save a game a turn before they win, then submit it to the Metaverse, then re-load and submit it again. Correct? ~SDC~
Terror stars destroy stars, not planets. ~SDC~
A quick question to anyone who ahs tried it, because I never have, but what happens if you turn a resource-based star base into a terror-star? Does it just leave the rsource unmined? -Dave ~SDC~
Keep in mind also that the Federation is a work of FICTION. It is not a system or form of government that has actually worked or failed with real humans trying it out. What the writers of the various shows have chosen to show is not heavily based in the day-to-day economics of their govermental system. It is easy for a character to mention, "In the future we have no need of money." The practical implications of that are not so easy to work out. What happens when some system has a valuable n
Jack, I was surprised that you advise upgrading resource bases last. I have found that upgrading military and influence star bases early in the game gives you a HUGE advantage. Adding defensive bonuses can also help, as the AI will go after you star bases early. Have a strong resource base a buffer can save you some time before your planets get attcked, and also have the AI waste a LOT of resources sending corvettes and starfighters to their death against your fortified star base. Any though
Gigantic Galaxy, Common Planets, Technology Party, AIs usually on Bright or Smart Bonuses to Pop. Growth, Research and Influence Tech: I start with Industrial Theory, then, like Captain Bizzare, I go for Propulsion Techs until I can buy Gravity Accelerators, but often take a brake to get Diplomacy and Trade. Getting Industrial Theory first lets my home planet build a manufacturing center while I am researching impulse drive. If I am lucky I will find a minor race from whom I can
Played OS/2 Version and have been checking the Stardock page at least once a quarter ever since waiting eagerly for the Windows Version (ran OS/2 for an extra year just to play GalCiv!!!). -Dave ~SDC~
Is there in the release, or will there be, Build Queue's/Governors for military production? -Dave ~SDC~
Pittsburgh, PA. GO Steelers! ~SDC~
I agree with Captain Bizarre. This game goes beyond fun to the level of severe addiction. I prefer strategy games, and have played a lot of them, but none as much as I have played GalCiv, both now and when it was initially released for OS/2. You will NOT be disappointed if you purchase it (unless you have and/or family that will miss you :) ) -Dave ~SDC~
I think this is a situation where realism has to take a back seat to game mechanics. Minor races do nothing but churn out useless ships. It would really inconvenient to take one Overlord into a star system with four planets, and have to attack every turn for a year to destroy the countless, worthless star fighters they have amassed. Maybe if group fighting worked by having a ship destroy a certain number of hit points, and applying that to the ships (altered based on theri attack/defense, etc
