Ive only tried up to bright level AIs, usually, if your military power is too low, no matter they are happy with you or not, they will try to rip you off with anything you have. And also, doing trade with them will also improve their thoughts towards you. Dont rush at the beginning, it doesnt matter that much. ~SDC~

what about research some diplomatic technology? That will always help. But if you just wanna give stuff to AIs to make them happy.....you have to give them really much. Ive tried give 30 BattleAxe at one time, and that only raise the relationship to Friendly. ~SDC~

i dont think maintenance is a big problem here. From my experience I've had almost all planets installed full load of social projects, however still raising quite a bit of money. The problem for me is to maintain military units. However when that happens I usually sell lower level ships to other AIs for money. ~SDC~

There are many threads regarding open moves and planet building up strategies, I think it really depends on personal perference, if you like equally distributed system, you may want to build a good many social projects, if you like speicalty planets, you may want to concentrate on few high level planets. When sending off a colony ship, always know its destination planets quality, if it is a rather poor star, say 15-17, I find 100 million will be sufficent, otherwise you may suffer a morale d

if you are a learner, I strongly suggest go for a cakewalk or simple game mode. Tweak the AI's intellgent to fool or beginner. and also remember the key in Galciv is planets,so in the early stage try to get as many yellow planets as you can. Dont forget your military power, otherwise you will find yourself being threantened(and for money) by AI constantly. ~SDC~

There is another way to gain colonies early in the game, here is what I do: Before begin the game, set the Reasearch bonus to 8 or 10, this will give you a very much boost on researching ability which comes in very handy later on. Upon begining the game, set the research project to Communication Theory, fly around while your project is underway, when it is finished, research Nano electronics, after that, research Stella Catography. With this project, you will be able to identify suitable pla

I believe this depending on your targeting planet's quality, say, if you have 30 thousands ppl on a colony ship with 50 morale colonizing a 15 type planet, you will get very low morale. I figured a way to balance this is aftering landing on the planet, immediately buy two quality improvment structure, then a entertainment centre, usually the morale will be around 60 after doing this. ~SDC~
