I'm thinking compared to Alpha Centauri for example, the factions seem to lack "life" in a sense.

It seems to me that the Drengin are just well, your stereotypical "bad guys". They lack any sort of depth, any sort of character. There are no signs that there is a culture behind them - just a desire to conquer the universe and make everyone their slaves. They're the bad guys. It's obvious to everyone that plays. But at the same time, there's nothing else. They are simply ... the bad guys. What I think is lacking is a more in depth ba

What is the state of planetary invasions and ship combat in the alpha?
There's now much more incentive to get population now other than just wealth and culture it would seem.
Yeah I like the approach from Civ IV and Alpha Centauri.
Anyone paying attention to Warlock 2? It seems like an incremental upgrade to Warlock 1. New combat mechanics, a couple of new races, and a few other features.
Ah. The only way I've gotten a ton of exp was in a very long game. You spam that spell that gives your units 1 level up every time it charges.
Lol - 7000 hp army. That must mean ~800hp per unit? Monstrous trait?
What is the highest level of henchmen or champion that you've ever had in the game? How did it get so high? Did you unlock all the perks for a "path"?
Ok thanks guys - will check out the female henchmen mod.
Thanks for the mod, Primal. Is there any way we could get the devs to include this in the main game?
Great answer joeball. I'd say then that against armored targets, the assassin would probably do better simply due to the armor penetration. The other issue of course is survivability. Assassins can dodge, but warriors can later on be equipped with champions plate (although expensive).
Is there anyway to make a champion so that it cannot equip items and cannot ride a mount?
At higher difficulties, do you find warriors to be any good as archers? How do they stand up against assassins?
The starbases in GC2 looked all alike. Should they vary by race? Should there be a starbase designer?

And their initiative is boosted so high with savant trait allowing them to instant cast blizzard very early at beginning of battles when most of the soldiers is still clustered up. And to the date, I only know of one mage that can equip plate, he's an alliance hero named Sir Kodrin something and he have a follower. He's a life mage. Although That plate chest armor
Depends on your stratgey ... I sometimes zerg ... wave after wave of cheap ships and wear down the enemy. Leveling up doesn't matter since few ships survive. But quality fleets are a different strategy, and having them level up is important .
There's advantages to both a Zerg and a Veterancy strategy. It will depend on the incentives for leveling up.
Why is 1000 gold too cheap to steal a city? It is a rather large amount of gildar. I don't see this skill being used very often in my games, but then I don't play the extreme difficulties. I'm more curious vs. against.
At the higher difficulties, its easy for the AI to get that sum of money even in the early stages of the game.
I think the Death magic school has a spell that increases unrest already. The quest is whether there should be a high-level sovereign spell that increases unrest significantly, thus allowing the Betrayal spell to work...sort of a one-two punch.
In that case, we need something else. Something powerful, but not overpowered ... like an instant city capture.
Yet another option could be to design a ship from ground up: - Reactor - Defense systems (shields, armor, PD) - Weapons systems - Sensors, support, etc - Utility functions (ex: mining, trade) - Special abilities Then each part would gain experience and get progressively more potent.
I rethought modules it could be that when enough ships reach enough levels then you could get modules to add when you level up, or this could be workable for upgrading if you up grade that ship. The problem with modules is that it would require you to upgrade the ship to recieve the ability.
It could be automated somehow - like a perk.
Increasingly I get the impression that defender is just ... better at the higher difficulty levels.
But depth is expected in a 4x strategy game surely? Isn't the point of these games to make you strategize and think out what you are doing? After all, if one wanted entertainment where one didn't have to think too much, you could play a FPS.
It comes down to how well implemented that depth is.
