Have you ever said anything and wish you could take it back?......You haven't? I once shouted at a prank caller to get the hell off my phone, and it turned out to be my Grandmother. Does that count? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/joke.

What ever happened to your 8-Ball skin GUIO '04 seems like a perfect excuse... You mean this 8-ball skin? I think it's pretty much dead now. My abilities have moved on a ways sinc
I'm going to get a little flak on this one, but we already know who the winners are already. Some of the people here get paid to make skins, so they will have the advantage. I hate to point out the obvious... but...
I'm also investigating doing a proper custom colour version this time around too, at the request of the original artist. The standard hue shifting functions of WB would cause a problem when trying to maintain that blue uplight.
As usual concerning an expected release date, when it's done. Although I'm all for simple skins, I'm also developing this with a mind to possibly making it an entry to the 2004 GUIOs. So while there will be a simple version as usual, I might still include all of the extras if time permits. If I do so this time though, I intend to make things a little simpler to configure. While I agree
whether I felate his ego Ooooooooooooh, Jafo misspelled 'fellate' <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/lol.gif" border=0 ALIG
Incidentally, Windows Movie Maker is primarily intended for creating small, highly-compressed movies for distribution over the Internet or on CDs. If you want to create a DVD quality movie, you should investigate software suited more to the task.
Use the MMC (MultiMedia Center) software that comes with the Radeon to actually capture the video. For some reason Movie Maker doesn't play well with the capture hardware on Radeon cards and produces the exact choppy results you mention. Once you have your MPEG-2 file from MMC, you can then use other software to convert it to the format you desire. In fact, I have a feeling MMC can actually record directly to WMV itself these days. It's been a while since I used a ViVo card. <i
By the way, I should note that I have a lot more stuff completed than that little image shows. I'm just not ready to show a proper preview yet for various reasons.
Well things are progressing slowly but surely on this skin. I've made small changes to the majority of the elements, and I think things are looking a lot more striking as a result, while remaining true to the source material. I'm still not telling you what that source material is though... Here's a comparison: Old <
22 THOUSAND?! You've been mailbombed my friend.
When I put together my metalX2 WindowBlinds skin, I spent some time looking at images of the metals I needed (found using the image search feature on Google) and then decided which image looked most like the metal I wanted to achieve. I then set about creating gradients by hand, basing the various points in the gradient on the various shades in the image. The problem with using photographs of a precious metal is that the final result depends on a variety of factors, from lighting to col
Most artists consider it a compliment to see their work used it good taste. ..... no, I think most artists consider it theft......
The message boards again seem to be steadily filling up with requests for the creation of particular skins. There are certain important rules to consider before making a request. 1. No movie, TV show, band, video game or brand name skin requests. The copyright issues involved in creating such a skin are simply too big for any legitimate skinner to get involved. If a skin uses the trademarks/copyrights held by another party, then the author is opening themselves up to the
Erm... they appear to be a technology company. Unless a particular company comissions a skin to be created for them, it's simply not going to happen. No legitimate skinner would use the logos and/or copyrights of a particular company to create a skin simply because an individual requests one. If you really want a skin to match your clothes, put your artist hat on and create one yourself. Jus
Erm... yes... that's actually what I was saying IR. Hmm... The point is, it's highly unlikely that someone would accidentally have those two addresses stored on their machines unless they had previously sent mail to them, or received mail from them. Both addresses do not appear online for the casual web browser.
Okay, I'm getting heaps of these damn virus e-mails as a result of the latest idiot virus creation 'Doom'. However, I think I can at least help one person to realise they have the virus on their machine. Today I got an e-mail to my PayPal donations e-mail account with a spoofed from address of 'ian @ stardock.com' (note the spaces to prevent further spread). So if you have made a donation to me in the past for my skinning work (and let's face it, that narrows it down a heck of a lot <im
Thanks guys. More teasers as and when...
Just kidding... but I still thought some of you might be interested in a bit of news about my latest skin. I promised I'd release something new this year as a result of Gary Jules getting the Christmas No. 1 and winning me £400 to buy myself a sparkly new home cinema system. Well, I've now settled on a likely candidate for my next release, and things are progressing slowly but surely. I won't tell you what it's called or give you any more details than the image below and to say
/me beats his thread back into the ground with a big heavy stick Okay... who's been using the magicks? Seriously though guys, let's just let the thread die again. It was my thread, so I hereby proclaim that I have the last word. Word.
It's a good idea, and a pretty well-known one, but in reality it's not as perfect as it seems. It's not difficult to simply mail yourself an unsealed empty envelope and keep it handy in case you feel like ripping off someone else's work. All you then need to do is fabricate an 'original' disc containing the work and seal it inside the pre-stamped envelope.
Thanks for last night Paul. That really was great lovin'...
Actually grayhaze won just over £400... but don't tell anyone. Expect a new skin for the new year.
Well... I won!!!!! I guess that means I'd better get skinning... /me goes off to count his winnings
/me has visions of terrorist organisations trying to outdo each other in a sick version of a 'graffiti war'... A strange analogy there Jafo, and not one that has any real grounding in the truth. The result of a terrorist attack doesn't prompt other terrorists to try and do better in 'response'. If that were the case, we would have already seen countless repeats of those terrible events in New Yor
