Um.. ok, where is the 'fly here' button darnit! >:( Are you talking about the mysterious blue arrow to the right? fleabitfox

So.. when are you guys going to add multiplayer to GalCiv? ;p On a more serious note, I've so rarely played any multiplayer TBS, it isn't funny. Hotseat is the ONLY way I've enjoyed playing any TBS game, and even that sucked. "Ok dude, your turn".. go and mess around on the playstation for 15 minutes on a late game turn.. "Ok dude.. your turn".. ad naseum. And online multiplayer for almost ANY game that isn't a FPS shooter, imo, is junky. Including MMORPGs. And I am
I was under the impression that each AI does have a different strategy. Why do you think they don't force? It was clearly stated each major AI is its own entity. And indeed, each seems to employ a different strat to accomplish their goals. The Drengin bully, extort, go in the red to get war machines. The Arceans do something else entirely (and in fact, with 3, they do it much nastier, with whatever stats they reimplemented for them O.o ). Unless you are referring to every s
There are 'cheese' tactics that have nothing to do with real warfare. How in the world could a few scout ships or colony ships completely encircle something to prevent your entrance? It seems one major 'cheese' is blockades of one type or another. Is there a way to correct blockades? It seems most of the cheeses I've heard of involve this. If they could get rid of this somehow, I would think cheeses would be reduced. But not elimininated. On the strat forum, you can read about ple
Um.. no, of course it is not released. I still am baffled that people believe this is a *real* patch! It will never, ever ever EVER be out. Ever. It is a biiiiig practical joke! suckers!! ;p fleabitfox
Actually, ctrl-n is fun if say.. you want a REALLY bad starting position. I've tried this a few times. Want a challange? Get a nice corner with one habitable system within a few sectors. Wee! LOL fleabitfox

I loved Star Control. I never got tired of tedious landing, mining, collecting critters, etc. I was (probably overly so) amused at the little space dude tapping his foot when you would just stand around. Um.. or was that in one. geeze I feel old now.. fleabitfox
A little more playing around.. I can only assume some ship types are vastly tweaked to the neigh impossible in the 'trade for' category. For instance.. I offered ALL my systems at this point in the game (12), and those 4 trade goods.. for one empty colony ship en route to nowhere, and was given the 'This is a good deal HOW?' text. Uh huuuuh. I would consider this a good deal. ;p A freighter and a defender went for 1 trade good.. they apparently are willing to part with the
Actually Dick is sort of um.. well, himself. He was pretty rude in another thread. But yes, a breakdown of what each trade good does for your empire would be a cool added feature. For if you go to any planet that has completed a trade good (under details), and select it, it does *not* tell you what benefits it gave you. This could be a concern if say.. you were considering trading it to another civilization, major or minor. You should be able to see what benefits you are giving anot
I think there are 2 types of purple stars, tho I could be wrong. A purple, and a slightly darker purple. The purple have normal planets typically (altho it always seems to have at least one habitable planet), but the influence is much higher (post-precursor world). The second type (the ones I like!) are those with awesome planets. I've found 'em later in the game, with 2 or more excellent planets in them. They are quite cool simply because the AI doesn't know where they are from the
Yea.. ok, sure the AI trades wisely. :notsure: I mean heck.. just because I loaded the same game, and offered up the same 4 trade goods for ONE EMPTY COLONY SHIP that was parked around their planet and TURNED DOWN doesn't mean a thing. I'm sure that this empty colony ship was critical to their races survival, and the massive economic boost it offerer *far* outweighed the piddly bonuses of those 4 trade goods. Don't take my word for it. Load up a game.. make some outrageous
"but nothing the AI can't get by trading for technology" Wanna bet? How can they get trade goods if I don't trade them to anyone else? I can get all the same normal tech upgrades that they can, so as long as I keep up, I will *always* have those bonuses. You don't have the #'s anymore than I do.. but I feel that a +30% pop bonus will vastly outweight one starbase, no matter how much you upgrade it. More pop = more production = more money. And every planet gets this as well. Does a
How would it be stupid? You are telling me that the IMMEDIATE bonus of: +30% population +30% diplomacey +10% morale +20% ship hit points 3 systems .. is nothing compared to an econ bonus, which they WOULD need to milk the entire game to make up for it?! Do they REALLY think that I am going to let them keep a starbase in the sector where I have 3 systems? They should realize that is a HUGE target of opportunity for me. So instead of going to war,
Just curious.. it still seems a bit out of whack. For instance.. playing a game, with all opponents on 'intelligent' I believe. Still early in the game, and the darned Yor have built a starbase in my starting sector which had 3 systems in it I had populated. I really wanted that resource (economic), where it could also benefit my systems. So I try to trade the Yor for it. He has not yet built any modules on this starbase. I offer him.. 4.. FOUR trade goods he didn't have, a
Awesome.. thanx CariElf. I guess I should read a bit more carefully, I didn't check to see what all goodies I got with the encoder. I loaded up a ship from a shipset for kicks, and it was a mess. I think I need to do some reading.. :p fleabitfox
Also, the newer version (.04) is going to make it so that the size of the map will matter a little less in your final score, and the difficulty will matter a little more. So those who want to crank out more games on a large map may well be able to do so. fleabitfox
Heh... In reality, the manual for this game (and MOST games anymore) could most certainly be better, of this there is no doubt. Manuals are a weak point in games anymore, mores the pity. At least Frogboy is making an effort to update and add to the manual (and if you had done a search for 'manual'.. you would have found it). A little bit of research and a few polite questions, and all your questions can be answered. This game (at least to a TBS fan) is hardly rocket science.
Well make certain to check out the strategy forum (to the left). There really isn't one.. mostly because this game probably isn't as complex as say.. a 'hardcore' 4x game like Space Empires IV. Not to say it isn't deep, because it is.. and it is also just a lot of fun! LOL By the way.. if you are new to the genre, and would like to try the gamut of TBS games, do try out Age of Wonders II.. another very fun TBS game, imo. Btw.. what parts are confusing you the most? <br
Maybe they formed a handy alliance with the Torians and thought that would a be a nice time to implement it. LOL fleabitfox
To the left is where you can find additional forums. Go check out the strategy forum, there is useful advice there, including early game strategies for different levels of difficulty. And welcome to your new addiction! ;p fleabitfox
Yup.. the 4 cost for speed went up to 5. Still almost worth it.. it is a great early game ability. But later on it is not as worthwhile, as you get other speed techs, etc. I don't take it as often now, since it is 5. :p fleabitfox
um.. other galactic fruit? ok.. i'll not even delve into this. mwuahaha... ;p fleabitfox
Oh yea.. just one more thing. At intelligent at least, the other races WILL build constructors. If you have a resource in a sectore with your own systems, you might either want to crank military a bit longer.. or just outright lease a constructor, to at least nab one useful resource you need. That is one problem with this strat.. you won't nab all resources, at higher levels. But you can't do it all.. I feel the moral, ship, population and diplomatic bonuses outweight losing a 5% resource bo
Priceless humor is spending ALL your resources to gain a trade good.. and having a scummy alien race finish it a TURN before you do. This has happened to me a few times.. grrrr. >:( fleabitfox
