One of my favorite webcomics, Penny Arcade, has mentioned Galactic Civilizations and Stardock in their daily news posts. Whether or not this is a good thing is still to be determined. Hopefully this mention will help get the word out to people who haven't heard of GalCiv!

So, appeal to your own imagination. Make up a race and mod the game, or imagine you modded the game. Or change Terran to Those Other Guys. Whatever you want. It's your game. Or if you don't buy it, it's not. So what are you worried about? The idea of this game appeals to me so I'm going to buy it, even if it's not everything everyone wants it to be. Just my take on it.

I got my girlfriend to play The Corporate Machine a couple times, but she was less interested in winning and more interested in improving her product and getting lots of profit, never mind the opponent. Weird. Same idea of the person who tries to play Simcity in Warcraft 3. Actually, she played Simcity and 1602 as well, and had fun (which is the point of those games) In GalCiv, if she played, my prediction is she would build lots of colony ships and colonize lots of planets, get trade going,

No matter how technologically advanced people pretend to be, whenever they find somewhere to expand to that they didn't know about before, they tend to regress. Pacifists seem to be 'pacified' by the fact that they're not fighting equals. Interstellar terror would need to be invented, just as interstellar diplomacy and trade did. Small scale stuff takes time to become large scale.

I thought the same way as Mythor before the AI mechanics were explained, that is, the continual anal retentive updating. I'm not going to do that. The AI can and will do that, so there should be an offset for those who want an AI that behaves humanly. Anyway, I don't think Mr. Frogboy ever said the AI didn't CHEAT, he said it played by the same rules. I really can't wait to play this game and see how it works with the way I play. So when you allied, did your ally seem to work with y

Or, most likely, one of the AIs would be going for a military win ANYWAY, seeing as there's 5 of them that could choose that. It doesn't see it as the only way, but if it didn't even see it as a way to win, that would be very silly.

"Caution, this option is not suitable for processors slower than 1.2 GHz. You will encounter too much processor slow down between turns." I meant even if you had that already. You must be thinking of people who are intelligent. I think/hope this game will be such a hit that even the unintelligent will buy it and try to play it. Case in point... http://www.dpad.ca/daily.php?date=020210 LOL

If you put in a galaxy that large, and there's slow down, you might not care. But the reviews will reflect it, and say how slow it is, fault it for something that wouldn't be an issue to a player who knew it was an 'extra.' Also, everyone with their Holy Processors of Speed will come on and whine about it. And we don't want that, do we? :(

I wonder if it's possible to mod the game to make you one of the other races? If all the text is alterable... I'm sure it would be a pain to do it and it wouldn't have any impact on the actual gameplay... but for those of you who absolutely must play the other races, I'm sure there's someone who absolutely has way too much time on their hands. :D
