Yeah, Brad has said the retail version of the game will have a printed manual in it. The CD (presumably whether you get it from retail or shipped direct) should also have a .pdf version of the manual that you can print out or simply peruse on your desktop if you want. I'm pretty sure they'll release a .pdf of the manual for download, also, sometime around or after release, but I'm not certain about that.

What everyone is essentially trying to say is that for a Political Victory (aka, Alliance Victory) ALL remaining empires must be allied with every other remaining empire. It's not just a matter of one empire being allied with every other empire. All those other empires must also be allied with each other. The idea is that this is bringing a sort of harmony to the galaxy where conflict is set aside and all races are united peacefully and working together. Think of the United Federation of Pla
I don't work for Stardock, but I'm pretty certain that victory conditions can be switched off. Just look at this screenshot from Brad's latest gameplay example. It's a bit obscured by the pop-up box, but if you look in the bottom righthand corner you can see the different victory conditions listed out with a little "check box" beside each one. http://www.galciv.com/examples/5/new-1.jpg
Okay, yeah...that screenshot does make more sense with what everyone has explained so far. Am I also right in thinking, based on things Brad has said different places, that when you look at a planet and it say "Military Production 5+2" that the number after the "+" is free production? I remember Brad commenting on that difference between the two. So, do you get your free production points, in each category and from each planet, regardless of how much money you're spending overall and
Heh, yeah, I'm sure you're right. It's just been bugging me that I didn't really understand how this worked yet and I figured I'd go ahead and ask. :) There's probably even a tutorial for when I play my first game that'll walk me through some of this, huh? Anyway, thanks for your guys' help!
Hmm, okay...so it basically is like MOO3, then, in that you have to pay to keep those imaginary factories running (paying electric bills, employee salaries, scientists' salaries, etc). And you pay this either out of your stockpiled treasury or out of your monthly income (if it's enough to cover what you're shelling out). And if you don't have enough money (Spending at less than 100%), you're basically forced to let many of your "factories" and "research labs" sit empty and idle. <b
Hmm, I'm afraid I'm still confused, though I appreciate you responding. :) So, the Global Spening Slider (the single one, not the 3 designated Military, Social, and Research), is it: A) Your income per turn, meaning what you received that turn from taxes, trade, and tribute or B) Your total industrial/manufacturing capability as you seem to indicate in your second post? Or is it both? If the Spending Slider represents only your manufacturing capacity why would yo
Maybe you should try reinstalling your SDC. I don't have a news reader and I've been able to read the forums through SDC without any kind of errors along those lines. Also, make sure you have the most current version of SDC. .98 I think
Okay, so I've read the manual and all the gameplay examples and I've read bits and pieces out of the encyclopedia. What I still haven't come to an understanding of, though, is what the global Spending Slider actually does. There's the one slider that asks what percentage of...something....you want to spend. And then there are the 3 sliders that presumably divide that former percentage up to say what percent of *it* goes into Military, Social, and Research spending. But what i
Sweet! That did the trick. Thank you very much, Arturus! ~SDC~
Testing thread creation to see if it shows up on SDC for me now.
I'm having the same problem, I believe, as Ancient Warrior is now. I can't get SDC to show new threads in the GalCiv forums. Basically, when I first installed it, it grabbed all the current threads. And when I Check For Updates or Refresh, it will refresh posts that have been added to those initial threads. But it won't show me new threads that are posted (with the exception that when I created a new thread using SDC, I saw that). I tried totally uninstalling SDC and cleaning out it
I believe all of your questions are answered by this news post from the front page (with some clarifications in the posts that follow here). http://www.galciv.com/index.asp?action=full&NewsID=204
This sunk pretty far down....I think I'll bring it back to the attention of Stardock people. :)
In budgeting for purchasing GalCiv next week (woohoo! :CONGRAT: ) and thinking about going with the direct download from Stardock, it occurred to me to wonder whether there will be tax charged on top of the $44.95 price or whether that price is all you way (not counting any potential S&H of course)? In a somewhat related question, it is possible to take this downloaded file and burn your own CD if you wanted to save the 5 bucks for getting one shipped to you? After all, as I understan
As I understand things, the only way you will immediately get an e-mail containing your serial # is if you order it directly from Stardock. In that case, you should almost instantly get an e-mail containing the serial number and be able to use that to start downloading the game. Then they will (if you ask them to and pay an extra $5[U.S.] or $10[International]) ship you a physical copy of the game CD. But the point is that you can start playing it as soon as your download finishes. A
Just checking to make sure my SDC is kosher all around, now.
Just what the above says.....let's see if it's working for me.... ~SDC~
I have "Check for New Messages every 2 minutes" with the box checked. And I have "Check for New Messages on Startup" also with the box checked.
Ditto with Sunac. Heard about it on the official MOO 3 forums, but didn't pay much attention since I was waiting eagerly for MOO 3. Bought MOO 3 and saw the little insert ad. But didn't really check up on the game until I realized I hated MOO 3. Then I found a thread on their forums, again, and read the guy's review of GalCiv....followed his link here.
Incidentally, even though I created this thread through SDC, it's not even showing up when I view the forum using SDC. :(
I'm starting a new thread, using SDC, mainly just to see if that will randomly get this to start working. As I mentioned in another thread, though, SDC only seems to refresh the contents of the threads it initially downloaded. It's not showing me any new threads. I'm confirming this because I also have the GalCiv forums open in my web browser, so I can flip back and forth. Any ideas? Or anyone else having this problem? ~SDC~
Okay, tried both options you suggested, Brad. Neither one is working. Though it does seem to be updating Threads I already had with new posts, it's just not updating to show any new Threads.
Hey, I'm still playing around with Stardock Central. Just got home and thought I'd check the forums through it. However, it doesn't seem to have refreshed from when I used it yesterday. And using both View->Refresh and Tools->Refresh Application Data I've had no luck getting it to refresh the threads. I *think* it may be updating with new posts within the threads I had showing last night, but I'm not sure. Also, it won't let me post from it. It says I have to be a member to post an
Okay, this feels like a stupid question to ask, as I may be opening myself up to attack, but I'm going to ask anyway. ;) First off let me say that I don't believe in pirating games. I like to reward the people that make good games and have the full support of owning a proper version of the game. That said, I have some problems with buying two copies of a particular game if it happens to be a game that my wife and I both want to play. We each have our own computer and often si
