Okay, Furan. I tried playing just about all of GalCiv's music from my desktop, using Winamp and every one of them played perfectly. No static or distortion through my speakers. Oops, just noticed you said Windows Media Player, not Winamp. Okay, tried playing the trouble track through that and I could hear just a bit of the static/distortion that I hear in the game. It's much harder to hear, but it is there faintly in WMP as well. Here are the files time/date stamps you

Okay, I'm going to post this for my wife since I doubt she'll ever come here and actually post...she hates searching web sites and such for answers. ;) Anyway, she was playing a game (her first one) last night. She'd saved the game and quit for a bit while we watched some TV and had dinner. When she quit the game, she controlled (as in had influence enough that sectors were her color) most of the board....all of the middle as well as all the way up and to each side. There were only

Okay, that's cool. Admittedly I haven't tried yet...darn work keeps keeping me away from my beloved GalCiv. ;) Not to mention that neither my wife nor I has finished our first game yet. :) If it does "lump them together by serial," what does that mean exactly? Would that be some sort of Red Flag to terminate the account? Or do you mean that it won't list us as separate scorers but just want to combine us into one account/name/scorer? Or something else? :)

Good idea, Cari...though I'm not sure that would truly address Arkham's point. That being that he forgets that he even has those ships there. I know I rarely open my Ship List in a typical turn, so if I forget that a planet or two built a ship *and* don't bother or think to open my ship list, I'd still forget I had those ships in orbit. If there were some popup asking if you wanted to launch the ship or else the ship simply appeared on top of the star, ready to be moved or assigned gu

That's cool, Cari....it occurred to me at the end of my post that it was quite likely you had to program GalCiv's MP3 player to recognize specific file types...makes sense after I thought about it. And obviously people are having more serious and immediate issues than this, so I'm sure adding Windows Media Player compatibility shouldn't be a high priority. Nevertheless....documentation on how to work with GalCiv's MP3 player should definitely be looked into. :) Thanks

i know in Civ3 that when a new unit is produced it appears "on top of" the city that just created it and pops up in your "troops with moves still left" cycle. That way you know it's there and can either go ahead and move it or set it to guard that city (in which case it won't pop up again until you go after it). If something like that could be implemented, that would be good. Maybe that once you cycle through all of the popup windows that come from things being built and such and get

You know....something else you guys that are having problems getting your MP3s to play might want to try.... Check and make sure your MP3s are still *there* on your hard drive. I discovered last night, when I was trying to get this to work, that that bad build of Stardock Central that I updated to on Monday night had wiped out all my MP3s, MPGs, AVIs, and a couple other directories as well. Luckily I had a backup of most of my MP3s on another computer, though I did lose some stuff.<br

Oh! Also make sure you have DirectX 9 installed. If you have the GalCiv CD, it comes on that. Otherwise you'll probably have to search on the web for it.

For your first question, go into StarDock Central and click on the software tab. Highlight each of the options there (Galactic Civilizations, Bonus Pack, etc). If a button appears to the right of the option, when you highlight it, that says something like "Install" or "Update" then you haven't upgraded your game with that feature yet. Click on the appropriate button and it should download and install that feature for you. For some options, though, you don't need to worry as much. For exampl

Ancient Warrior: For me, when I clicked on the Load Playlist button, it had the word "Playlists" entered into the path box by default. When I finally got my .m3u files saved directly from Winamp into that directory, they were just there when I clicked on Load Playlist the next time. I never tried using Musicmatch, as I don't have it, but I know GalCiv wouldn't recognize the playlists I'd first made in Windows Media Player. That's when I took someone's advice and specifically

I totally agree, Stevious. That was one of the serious "lack of soul" issues I had with MOO3 that GalCiv does right. Not just the cutscenes, but how you get this cool animated robot popping up to tell you that you just got a technology breakthrough (and giving a ton of detail, both "story" and fact about that tech) is very cool. It actually makes a new tech breakthrough an event...something significant and exciting. In MOO3, it was a line on a potentially huge SitRep and often one of

Just a question on Metaverse accounts. Do you only get one account per copy of the game/serial number? So, basically, you couldn't create two separate user names if you wanted to? I guess I could see how that could be abused, but the reason I'm asking is to see if it's possible for my wife and I to have our own separate accounts (with only one copy of the game) and submit separate Metaverse scores. Anyone know? :)

Again, I feel I should point out that this is extremely unintuitive and easy to mess up. Is there any chance of getting some documentation posted on the web or through SDC to instruct Bonus Pack users on how to properly set up the MP3 player to work? I don't see how I possibly would have figured all of this out without the help of various posters and especially CariElf's final bit of info that did it for me. Surely, me and I_Intrude aren't the only ones having trouble figuring this ou

You opened up the playlist in Winamp, from your music folder where you first saved it, right? Here's what I did, exactly: 1) Had created 4 playlists, in Winamp, the night before and saved them in my Music folder. 2) Opened up Winamp 3) Chose Load List 4) Opened up "Alternative Mix" from Music folder. 5) Clicked on Play and let it play a few seconds of the first song (I don't know if this is necessary, but I thought this might more "firmly" create the playlist th

I don't know if this is related or not, but I've gotten some static out of my speakers when the game plays some of its own music. When the Drengin first introduced themselves to me, for example, there were little bursts of static or distortion or something as it was playing. There was one other track I noticed that did this, though I don't recall what. Has anyone else experienced this? ~SDC~

Vernmeister, Actually, one of the features was how good the game's AI *already* was, out of the box...the fact that there are 6 different AIs and that they get to play the game just like the player (ie, without having lots of free money and units thrown at them). The initial game's AI is supposed to be (at the higher levels, at least) just like playing really good human opponents. The idea, then, is that you're playing worthy opponents, but not having to deal with human foibles (disco

Yep, definitely underestimated the demand, Brad. ;) I think there's been a HUGE word of mouth spread over the past month. I'm sure many people who bought MOO3 saw the little flyer and were intrigued...then there was an ad in the latest PC Gamer. But really, I think a huge amount of notice has come from disgruntled MOO3 people who saw various people talking about GalCiv on their forums. I know that's how I found out about it and I've seen numerous people saying the same thing

Okay, I finally got it. Thank you, Cari, that was the vital bit of information that I needed to figure it out. You're right, apparently. You can't just create the playlist one place and move it. You actually have to load the playlist up into winamp and then directly save it into GalCiv's Playlists directory. Also, I discovered that if you tell GalCiv's MP3 player to look in the directory where you keep your music, it seems it will *only* play the playlist it creates, called "Default" which

Okay, I tried the instructions in the "Two questions, need answers Frogboy" from both of the people who responded about this and I still can't get the MP3 player to use any of my custom playlists. The best I've been able to do is tell it to look in the normal directory ("C:\Music") for my playlist and it then creates its own .m3u playlist file called Default. This will actually play, though I'm not sure what criteria it's using to line the songs up as they don't seem to be playing in a

Okay, just checking. Thanks, guys. I did try moving my colony ship into the star, but it wouldn't go there. I'd moved my survey ship there first, but when it didn't show me anything I thought perhaps it was just because it was a survey ship and I actually needed a colony ship there. Good to know I just had rotten luck with the star nearest me and not that I had no clue what I was doing. :)

Okay, when I ask this keep in mind that I only got to play the game for a total (including customizing my race and setting options) of maybe 20 minutes today before I had to come to work. :( But, in that time, I got my colony ship to an orangish-looking star (it was named Wardell! :) ) hoping to colonize it. Only I didn't see any way to do so. Also, when I clicked on the star I didn't see any planets listed in the planets list. Now, what I'm assuming (since this was the only star I
