I admit that the same thing happened to me, and I was also terribly irritated. These bastards took over the entire galaxy, outperforming us all! So I switched tactics, went for culturular dominance, and won, despite taking terribly heavy losses. Ha! :D

First game I ever played (all AI on Beginner). Had a lot of fun, built up enough military to be left alone (small galaxy). I arranged some great trade routes (and found out they're really worth it), when pirates showed up, making a lot of trouble with the trade ships. Once I got rid of them, the Yor civilization suddenly grew a lot, and controlled way more sectors then me, putting me firmly into second place, culture-wise. Then the Yor had a problem as a group started b

Holy cow! Thanks, man, this is really appreciated :D ...and to think I spent about two hours yesterday evening drawing a careful map of the tech tree, complete with the more important effects. Since your version is waaaay better, though, I don't mind dumping my work in the trash ;)

Well, now that we all agree about Galciv and MOO3, let's return to the more mature theme and deep thoughts that this thread actually started with. See, I also forgot to eat last weekend, and I actually only remembered at four in the morning, when my cats opened the door to the computer room and demanded to be fed ;)

Hi everybody! Hey, one of the few review sites I half-way trust has brought out a review for Galactic Civilizations! It's actually the second one, as they reviewed the OS/2 version way back when. Got a 'Top Game' rating: "What makes Wardell's game stand out from other recent 4X space empire games is a blend of simplicity and depth." http://www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/zones/reviews/pc/apr03/galactic.html Joy :) The game truly deserves this! (No, I'm n

A couple of bugs: a) Is the graph for the treasury value correct? My treasury is typically around 0, while the graph is bouncing about, especially in the beginning of the game. For example, my treasury was -131, while the graph showed 36731. b) UP votes who gets the Theme Park. My influence there was higest by far. Although everybody voted for himself (incl. me), the Yor of all people got it. Should have been me - right? And I have a question: if a starbase increas

Hi! Okay, deep into my second game (have been playing for 16h non-stop), the game crashed on me (trade Alliance for Alliance -> crash). I wanted to post the SmartException data only to find that I wasn't running SE >:( Aaaanyway, here's a bunch of suggestions (yes, I read all 169 others in this thread). In no particular order: a) Let's have more information on each planet. The graphs in "Domestic Policy" are great, and it would be useful to have these for each planet

Another nice thing about trade is that your partners become really attatched to you. So, if you trade a lot, and your biggest (sole, actually) enemy has some major internal problems with 'freedom fighters', you might actually get a cultural victory out of it. (Thus I won my very first game - I RULE! Playing on 'Beginner', so perhaps I rule less than I think...) ;)

Confirm the colonization below level 12, I just tried. Had to build a 'bridge' colony to reach some nice, juicy planets. Burned the bridge colony once I arrived ;p .

I'd be delighted if GC would run under Winex in Linux! After all, I am currently phasing out my Windows (no, let's not start a discussion on OS merits ;) ), because most games actually do run under it (have a look at the Transgaming company: http://www.transgaming.com). Fast, too. So far, nobody got GC to run under Winex. But if it actually worked...well, I'd never have to boot back into Windows 98SE. Joy! LOL

I'd very much like to place my own comments about - definitively on a planet (a single line in the planet detail screen would be enough), possibly on the map itself - would help me to get rid of my little pile of paper next to the keyboard :) Oh, and add my voice to the civilopedia idea. Amazing game, by the way. I am very impressed, and really like it :D

A bug and its solution: After a few turns into each game, the system would semi-freeze: the turn button would display it's clock, and would not send you to the next turn. You can click about, look at your planets, move ships which still have movement points - but not start the next turn. So, not a true crash but a strange holdup. Also, the music had to be turned off, as it stuttered badly. System configuration: AMD 2100 CPU 512MB RAM Terratec Sky 5.1 Sound C
