I downloaded the bonus pack but I don't see the enhanced setup screen and there is no User Defined Playlist in my options menu to play MP3's. Do I have to do something to activate the bonus pack after downloading? Thanks ~SDC~

I've seen the same thing over at the MOO boards. I don't understand why some people get so fanatical about games but they do. I've actually seen a number of people over there bashing GalCic because they apparently see it as a them agains us situation. I won't be surprised to see a bunch of the MOO faithful coming over here after the game is released to get some kind of retribution for what's happened over there. Sad really.

There are similar problems with other games that prevent people from experiencing all the game has to offer but still allows them to play the game in some form. You may not be able to play a game at its highest screen resolution because your video card is not up to snuff. You may have to turn off shadows and lighting effects because you don't have enough RAM. You may not be able to play multiplayer because you don't have internet access. All of these problems prevent you from accessing

I have to agree with LifeWish. You can play the full version of the game without internet access but to make use of the bonus packs you will have to have it. The same is true of games like MOO with multiplayer. You can play single player with out internet access but if you want to take advantage of the multiplayer feature you have to have it. There are othere types of copy protection that some may prefer but then others would complain about that. ~SDC~

Frogboy, whats ya doin up this late? I'm afraid once I get the game I might be giving up sleep for play time too. I'm with you on the human only thing. With the customization available, I think people who complain about it are just nitpicking. I'm sure it will come up in reviews but only because they will be comparing it to other 4x games as far as what features it does and doesn't have. If the AI is as good as it seems to be and the replay value is high, I don't think anyone is going

Dave makes a good point if scores are going to be cumulative. You can probably play two strait games in the same time it takes to play one game with constant save/reload. I do save/reload in FPS games. Not because I don't want to lose but because after dying you have to repeat the same exact scenario over and over, which I find boring. I don't do it in TBS because, for me, it takes the chanlenge out of it knowing I can't lose. But as others have said, everyone should be able to play the

Brad, I agree a consensus is a better indication than a single review but it's still an opinion as opposed to the hard numbers you can get from testing a car or camera. I've really enjoyed some movies that scored under 10% at rottentomatoes and hated some that scored 80-90. Besides, everyone should try GalCiv no? :) ~SDC~

Bundus, You make a good point but I think most hardware reviewers (cameras, cars, tvs, etc.) tend to agree with each other. Game reviewers often disagree completely. IGN scored MOO3 a 9.2 which doesn't seem to be the popular opinion. I've seen other games score poorly at most sites and found I enjoyed the game. ~SDC~

I don't think you can rely on any site to predict what you might or might not like. It might be a good indication if you found a particular reviewer that you agree with most of the time but in the end you have to play the game or the demo to really find out for yourself. ~SDC~

I know you did it with good intentions but it may not be well received over there. I saw a few other threads on that forum where GalCiv was mentioned and the MOO faithful started bashing it. Some even said things about the game that were completely untrue in an effort to keep others from buying it. One said he couldn't wait for it to come out so he could watch it get skewered by the flamers that have infested the MOO boards! A lot of the disappointed people have come

I was just over at the encylopedia reading about undoctmented economics. It stated that when you build a factory to increase production, the increase is given in non-free production and free or "bonus" production and game indicates this with numbers like (8+2). I don't understand what this means but I haven't played the game yet. Will it beome clear when I do?

I agree with LifeWish about play balance vs realism. Play balance is critical to the game while realism adds to the experience but is not really critical. On the other end of the scale, the same is true of the AI from what I've read. The AI is penalized on the first 4 or 5 levels of intelligence. Not realistic but without the penalties you (I) would usually lose even at the lowest intelligence levels.

I agree. I'm glad multiplayer was not included. The only thing attractive about multiplayer in other games is that you play a human opponent. In this case it sounds like the improved AI and the fact that there is a different AI for each race will simulate human opponents rather well. I'm also glad the custom ship building and MOO type ship battles were left out. I've always thought of that as more of a mini-game than an intregal part of an overall strategy.

Seams reasonable. The ultimate goal of the game is to win. If a human player is going for a tech victory and sees an opportunity grab a political win, he/she is most likely going to take it.
