"Moral is like high 90%-100%" Uh, why not raise taxes until moral is in the 60's?
Dude there are tons of messages on the forum on how to fix this. A couple sticky messages, and another along the lines of Attn: Win98/ME users. Check those out, if you still cant get it to work, hit the chat room.
Apparently their website has a way of checking if a game is in stock in your area. Look up Galciv and there's an availability part where you put in your zipcode and search distance.
CompUSA - no Best Buy - no EB/GS - no, but maybe soon Walmart - no Arggggggggg! Where's that guy from strategy first?!?
I checked the local Best Buys, they didnt even have it in their database. They almost always have games weeks before release in the database. I smell impending doom. EB just got their FedEx shipment, so I'll know if they got it today pretty soon. Of interesting note, the EB right by me doesn't carry 'B label' games unless specifically ordered. So if your store doesn't have GalCiv, you might wanna inquire about that.
Problems? Last night? I thought all the people that witnessed that were . . . *coughing choking gasp* ~SDC~
Just because you made them visible is not the same as showing 'system files', thats a seperate option on some versions of Windows.
Sunac, If your system isnt set to show invisibile files, you wont see anything. Go here for more details, both on how to view these files and fixes for XP http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=23588
Uh, maybe it happened to a lot more people, but their systems were too screwed up to go online and complain. :)
Frogboy, I installed it on an XP Pro system and works just peachy :) ~SDC~
Frogboy, The boot.ini is just from a basic W2K install, not sure if it will work for XP. My Boot.ini file looks like this for XP Pro, generic install. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect ~SDC~
No, thats fine. It just means the syntax is screwy in it. Basically the boot.ini is a file that tells the computer where to look to start up. Your old version and new version are slightly different. If it boots, just be happy. If it bugs you that much, I can try and see what exactly is wrong with it. ~SDC~
Create a text file, rename to boot.ini, paste this in, save and try it [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
I have the XP files from XP Pro, not sure if they are the same as Home, if not, I can do a quick install of Home on another system.
If in doubt, check your root drive, C:\ You may need to make system files visible. Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), and goto your C:\ drive, dont panic if you dont see anything. Click Tools -> Folder Options In the window that pops up goto the View tab. In the list below look for 'hidden files and folders' chose the option that says 'show hidden files'. Below that, look for an option that says 'show system files', chose that one as well. Click O
To those of you with missing files I may be able to help. If you use yahoo messenger, my id is travathian, send me a pm. If not, send me an email at [email protected] and what OS and Service Pack you're using. disclaimer - I dont work for Stardock, nor can I promise to be able to fix yer system. I just happen to have a bunch of OS's installed and a long history of troubleshooting.
What choices are there? With the addition of missiles, I guess there is. But as far as ships, why build anything but the best a particular planet can build in a reasonable amount of time. Therefore, all planets being equal, you'd always build the same ship. I guess I'm comparing it to other games, with the rock, paper, scissors analogy previously stated. In GalCiv, its just rock, bigger rock, biggest rock.
I have to admit, this is one of the few disappointing things with this game. Your military simply gets bigger and badder, with no real strategic choice as to which military unit to build.
"I still think its much better to have the choice to play the aliens rather than just modified humans all the time.. " And yet you give no reasoning. This cracks me up because you have probably never played the game. All I can say is look at other TBS games and their different 'civ/race' choices. CivIII allows you to chose from 16 different civs. The only difference is in their bonuses and unique unit and appearance. Whoopedoo. MOO3, pretty much the same thing, its just number
Oh yeah, that new box smell. Yummmmy.
Lol, who cares if its boxed or not? Come on now really, what do you do with your game boxes? And instruction guides? I've got the instruction guides for my games sitting in a pile in box. After having the game for a day I don't think I've looked at them since. I actually prefer electronic instruction guides, its 10x easier to find things using a search function then to flip thru a silly book. And the boxes? Pfffft, they get broken down and tossed in the recycling bin.

My spring break starts today. I have a whole week off and I can't play Galatic Civilization. A whole week, day and night I'll be tortured checking this bored, looking at screen shots and knowing when it does arrive I wont have time to play! Damn you! Damn you to a class 3 planet for all of eternity!
As far as saving the templates, I think that is a great idea. Just have the template saved as the governor. Then you can 'call up' whichever governors you need for the type of situation you're in.
