I don't think I have ever played a 4X game where tactical combat was interesting. Moo1&2 ... put lots of guns on your ship. Whoever has the most/best guns wins ... wheee! Moo 3 - don't get me started Rome TW - Put strong infantry in a line, lots of archerse behind them, let the AI walk their troops into a withering hail of arrow fire over and over and over again. Mop up with calvary .... wheeeee! I hope sword of the stars can pull it off, but its damn tricky and cons

I think Civ 4 style promotions would be an awesome expansion to Gal Civ. Sure - its a blatant rip off of Civ 4, but like I am going to complain? A good idea is a good idea! Dano
Hey guys! Since Gal Civ 2 will already be out before E3, are you going to be there? If so, whatcha going to show? Huh? Huh? Huh? *Tries to look over Brad's shoulder* Dano
In the Sandbox mode will the races have certain pre-dispositions to other races (The Torians versus The Dregin since the latter enslaved them), or will they have a 'clean slate'. I can see benefits for both. Maybe this would be good as a game setting? Dano
You Rock! Thanks for the info ... works like a charm! Wohoo! Dano
Man, that download was absolutely painless. Any way ... is there any way we can look at the tutorials while we wait for the 21st? Dano
I am sure this is a supremely stupid question, but how exactly do I uninstall the Beta? I checked the Add/Remove programs in the control panel and didn't see it listed there. For that matter, how do you uninstall Gal Civ 1? I uninstalled the Altarian Prophecy the other day (that showed up in Add/Remove Programs) but I didn't see Gal Civ 1. The download for Gal Civ 2 seems to have worked, but because I couldn't uninstall the Beta could that cause problems?
LOL This website is such a breath of fresh air compared to other "suit" companies! Dano
If you loved MoM I would Highly recommend Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. A top notch game! Pretty much has everything MoM had ... Dano
I was EXTREMELY skeptical of the show when I heard they were taking liberties with the story (Cylons appearing human, Starbuck a woman etc). But now I think it is the best series I have ever watched, bar none. Even better than 'The Sopranos'!
I think its safe to assume based on the Previews, the Beta and Stardocks reputation that GalCiv 2 will be well received and make the company very rich ... Just wondering if it is too early for any of the Devs to tell us what ideas they are kicking around for the expansion? Dano
Asimov is the MASTER! I also loved the 'End of Eternity'. One of the most fascinating books on time travel I have ever read!
A long time ago I picked up the last book in the river world trilogy. Fascinating reading. I also think that the Niven book 'Footfall' was top notch. Why don't they do a movie about that? Instead we get Independence day ... Yeesh.
It would be nice to be able to propose bills ... but I imagine the AI needed for the computer to do the same would be substantial. Another thing that would be almost as good, is that the turn before the meeting you can see what the proposal is. Then in the diplomacy screen you can ask other races which way they are leaning. They can lie, tell you, or just tell you its none of your business. You can also be able to bribe them into voting the way you want - of course when the time to
Yes the screenshots are cool, and the beta was neat - but these aren't what have me stoked for this game ... Its your obvious excitement and sincere pride! Can't wait! Dano
Another great idea ... it would also be cool if you have a stack of enemies to tell the computer "I want to play against 6 opponents, but choose them at random" - then you never know if you are going to be crossing swords with the Yor or the 'Mega-Mean-Bunny-Eaters' Dano
I think this is an excellent suggestion ... it would be interesting to fight the computer playing its best, but with a massive starting handicap Dano
Hey There, Is it possible for you guys to upload the GalCiv 2 Manual while we are waiting for the release date? That way we can read and re-read it until we are completely familiar with the rules before the 21st. Dano
I assume that although those that purchased it directly from stardock will be able to download a MAJORITY of the files next week, it will not be playable until the 21st. I am basing this on a comment that Brad made ... something along the lines of 'Retail would freak if the game was purchasable online weeks before it hit the stores". Could we get confirmation on this? Also ... if my guess is correct, approximately what time will the file that makes the game playable be available? 1
PBEM is certainly possible, at least theoretically ... but I think it would take YEARS to play a game on a large universe.
Well Said Brad! I have been playing multiplayer games for 5 years now and have never once played a multiplayer strategy game. I like a game to last DAYS ... how am I going to get a bunch of people to coordinate their schedules for something like that? Now if there was a way to do a 4x game by email ... now that would be something to consider. Too bad I can't think of any way that could be done ... PS - if you DO make a multiplayer expansion pack, please don't load
*Groan* - Not another RTS. I don't know what it is about RTSs I despise. For some reason, compared to Turn Based they just seem ... toy like. Maybe its the ability to crank out ships every 6 seconds ... oh well. I am sure it will be a great RTS game ... Dano
No No ... Stardock is PUBLISHING GalCiv 2 (making the boxes, books, promoting etc etc). Take 2 is DISTRIBUTING the game - which I think means making sure it appears in stores at the designated date. I believe Publishing is a BIG job and Distributing is a medium job - but then I often don't know what I am talking about. Dano
I hope it doesn't affect Stardock very much ... the GalCiv Franchise is brilliant and they deserve to make a mint and maybe branch off into merchandising products (GalCiv Lunch Boxes, Happy Meals, Lingerie). I know they have had lots of bad luck with companies that they have teamed up with and hope that the trend of bad luck doesn't continue ... Dano
Its the same distributors as Civ 4 which I believe is Take 2 in some form (2K Games or something like that). I would love to be wrong on this ... Dano
