My first encounter with the Internet was when I entered Rice University as a freshman, back in 1994. (Prior to that, I had only used dial-up BBSs!) NCSA Mosaic was still floating around, but Netscape Navigator was the 'new standard'. Here's another two related ideas: - Easy way to modify file associations. We should be able to view a listing of file associations and then edit the command-line parameters that are executed with each option (open, edit with, etc.). - Convenient way to restore some common associations that seem to get screwed-up sometimes: For example, jpegs and gifs should by default preview in the Vista Photo Gallery. A bit buggy in Vista: - In tabbed dock, some of the icons are inexplicably miniature (like 4x4 pixels, or something like that). - In regular dock, it is not respecting system drive icons, as specified via IconPackager (Note that they appear properly in the Windows explorer). Even if you click on restore icon, it just gives a generic drive icon, but not the icons that are specified for C:\, E:\, F:\, etc.

I like DesktopX as a concept. But somehow, I don't think that it has lived up to its potential. Widgets tend to be pretty limited in functionality and diversity. I used to be really excited about using DesktopX themes to replace the explorer shell in Windows, but they usually tend to be a bit sluggish, 'bulky' and not powerful enough to really be a desktop replacement. One more ObjectDock bug in Vista: If using Alt-Tab to switch to the Desktop (or if choosing the 'Show Desktop' icon in the taskbar's quick-access area), the regular dock disappears, while the tabbed dock stays in-view. I believe that BOTH docks should remain visible. (That is, the regular, untabbed one should not disappear.)

Recently noticed bugs in Vista... in ObjectDock Stardock Forums

Hi, everyone. A few bugs in Vista: ObjectDock (regular dock, not tabbed) -- Recycle bin does not update image when bin is emptied. ObjectDock Plus (tabbed dock) -- The dock sometimes starts to think that it should be always-on-top of other windows. Clicking on the desired/focused window does not bring it to the top (i.e., the dock insists on remaining on top). The only way around this is to right-click on the dock, MAKE it always-on-top and then UNCLICK always-on-top.

Brad, I think your TweakVista app should allow users to modify the functioning of UAC. For example, specify EXACTLY what to allow or disallow. Allow the system to learn from past actions. And get rid of multiple dialogs (e.g., if UAC prompts you that you need to 'allow' the deletion of a file, then don't ALSO show the deletion confirmation dialog. It's redundant. One or the other.).
