Exactly :( Don't forget about Abundant planets...

I don't think the game demands a militaristic play style. Of course, you have to have SOME defense ships, but you can for example put a battle axe on each of your systems and go for a cultural win. As long as you have some warships, you don't have to go to war. Why would you expect AI to leave you alone if you're defenseless? It's more difficult to do that on higher AI levels, but on lower settings (bright) I think it's a perfectly viable strategy.
I found 21 tech trades in 5 years, mostly between major races, but some of them also involving minors (there are 4 minor races in the game). Whether it's too much or not enough depends on the player's style, I guess. But tech trading remains a strong strategy (although you can pretty much forget about leasing) - you don't have to spend much on research to keep up once you've made contact with other races. About making races attack each other... I forgot that I set all of them to pure/chaoti
OK, I'm playing a game on huge with 5xgenius AI. The tech trading seems MUCH better. In previous games I was able to routinely get 1000+bc from tech leases and not really have to worry about my other income sources. Now I'm getting 100+bc, and have to work hard to make ends meet :) Say goodbye to the technology party... Minor races are CONSTANTLY broke, and after the initial wave of leases it's nearly impossible to get any money from them. I suppose every major race is demanding money from t

I double checked to be sure, and the Ranger technology description reads: "Invisible battleships, an almost unfair advantage." Since Rangers are weaker than Dreadnoughts, it would be nice if they were (at least partially) invisible.
OK, so apparently Ranger and Phoenix are invisible in some way. But how exactly does it work? Are they visible, but from a smaller distance? Not visible at all? As much as I love this game, sometimes it just doesn't give the player enough information. Or maybe I'm missing something?
That would be my guess too :) The question is, which C development tool...
I've only seen this once, and not even to me. Maybe the tech lease problem is affecting this somehow, and surrendering logic will get fixed automagically after correcting that, maybe not. I agree that it should be more common though, mopping up can get tedious enough to convince me to switch to cultural victory mode after conquering most of the galaxy.
It might be not THAT important, but since the metaverse is the only way for players to compete with each other, it would be good if it actually reflected the skill level of players, not how much time they're willing to devote to babysitting a gigantic galaxy with abundant planets. Why should the scoring system reward players for that?
if it's not a secret - just curious...
Great, this should close the biggest imbalance in the game. Can't wait to try it out after the patch. Is there a chance it will be available today?
Yeah, this suggestion sounds good. It really shouldn't matter how many ships it took you to win by conquest etc. Also agree about the "who-has-spent-most-time-with-computer" thing - some of us have jobs, you know! Actually, I think it's most of us, not some, but still not everyone has time to play 3 gigantic games in one week...
I'm not saying that I took on 3 races simultaneously, that would have been too much... But every one of them was stronger than me when I started fighting, and they simply couldn't put up a good fight (like raiding my undefended rear systems, pulling their ships back to protect their systems when they are losing instead of attacking me in space with predictable results, etc.)
I agree that diplomacy AI works better than in any other game I know. I'm not so sure about the military AI though. I don't see it attempting coordinated attacks, it pretty much just sends the ships at me. What's particularly puzzling is that it attempts to evacuate people when my invasion on a planet is imminent: it sends out a transport ship with some people on it, which I destroy with my dreadnoughts. The net effect is that their system is now way easier to invade, since the AI just helped me
My first sentence doesn't make much sense: the difficulty modifier is there, I guess, but it needs to be increased, obviously.
I'm pretty sure there is a difficulty modifier already. However, this will not make the milking problem go away, someone who's willing to baby sit their empire will have more points than someone who's not, if they're playing at the same difficulty level. But it would at least make milking way harder than it is now. Is it possible to get rid of milking altogether? I'm not so sure. Agree about modes of victory - I assume if you win a political victory you get less points than if you conquer yo
As far as I know, the game does not do it just by itself, the wording on the box is misleading. AI improvements will be released via patches after the development team analyzes metaverse strategies, if I understand it correctly.
Yeah, definitely. It's pretty frustrating to win a large game with all genius AIs and see higher scores from people playing on "simple" difficulty level. I don't want to be forced to "milk" the game, it kills all the fun.
