Stegone, what type of video and sound do you have?

Hey Chuck1es, One little undocumented thing that stumped me for a long time was that you had to have an active internet connection when you hit the 'Done' button. For someone like me, with a dial-up, that's kind of annoying, but I usually Alt-Tab to the desktop, connect up, and re-enter the game. I think I've done that from the screen where you hit Done, although I usually see the win coming a turn ahead of time and log on then. ~SDC~
Dr. X. I have yet to find a solution myself, but my symptoms are exactly the same. One thing I did was install the RADTools as you did, and played all the cut-scenes so I could see what they were supposed to look like. The RADTools plays them without the stuttering. If you find a solution I'd love to hear about it. I can't seem to delete the right files to make the menu opening sequence present selectable buttons and yet skip the animation, so maybe it can't be done. <br
I'm confused, what are you saying? ~SDC~
Good stuff Brad. I like the extra research ideas, the Starbase differing types, and the advanced constructors. Much more creative than just limiting what is already in the game. I think its so great that the guy in charge, or as in charge as anyone can be, is also the developer. I hope you can implement some or all of these ideas. ~SDC~
I don't know if this works, I haven't tried it. But maybe you could copy the installation stuff to your hard drive and run from there. That's making a bug assumption that you're able to copy anything off the disk. ~SDC~
There is a search engine? If there is, I missed it. ~SDC~
Hey! I can play the videos. I'm curious as to why the game can't play them that smooth. ~SDC~
Great, thanks for the info. I'm downloading it now, and I'm hopeful that I can play some of the vidoes smoothly on my 450K62. Wouldn't it be strange if I could? Anyway, thanks again. ~SDC~
If you see a civilization is about ready to fall, and they have starbases built on resources, have some constructors ready for when they fall because the starbases will go away and you'll be ready to nab 'em. ~SDC~
Also, to help avoid the empty queue, how about popping up the planet, like happens when a project is completed, whenever a galactic doodad or trade good is completed so we're not left with an empty queue planet to search for. ~SDC~
If its going to be removed properly from the build queue, hopefully after removing, it will also be included in the next game production report so we can assign the planet something else. Right now, I usually lose it from the queue if it was more than 1 month to completion, and then I have to go searching through the planet list for some planet with an empty queue. I don't think the goverenor takes over either if there is something that he could be assigning. ~SDC~
You do know that you need to send a contructor to a starbase so that you can make it into a terror star right? It will be a new military option if I remember correctly. Then, after you've upgraded a few times the final upgrade costs you the $$$. ~SDC~
There is a setting in the pref.ini that says something about battle speed, and it has a ratio. Does this affect that problem by chance. If not, does anyone know what its for? ~SDC~
I thought the game played based on 1024/xxx. I don't think that this is alterable, despite what the manual says. I don't remember seeing it in the manual, so I'm taking your work for it. There is an "unsupported" mode that lets you play in a window, but that only works for increasing resolutions. ~SDC~
How are these rankings assigned? Are they related to beta testing, or score in play? ~SDC~
Try not installing the Bonus pack from the stand-alone file. Use Stardock to download the bonus pack instead. Assuming that you didn't already try that. I had troubles with the 85mb download thing and I had to uninstall, and download everything straight from Stardock ~SDC~
Just as a consolation. I'm at the exact same system, 450 AMDk62, voodoo 3, 256mb ram, ESS Solo-1 motherboard sound, and I get the terrible skipping too. One time I disabled my sound card and everything ran smooth. I thought maybe it had to do with the fact that I had an on-board sound card and that its not capable to hardware buffering. Strangely, the starting movie, the torch guy on the colony ship, runs fairly smoothly without the 1 second sounds ommisions. That seems to be the on
I think he probably means, what bonuses they get. I don't know the answer to that question. :notsure: ~SDC~
I think I was getting it on my third game when things started clicking. I've played lots of similar games, so it was just a bit of a culture adjustment...no pun intended. :D ~SDC~
My original Survey ship, well into the game, started heading for the top center of the map when it ran out of anomolies. It met up with another AI's Survey ship already stuck up there and tried to declare war. It did let me deny the war and manually redirect the ship to orbit a planet. This is version 2.036a.... or something like that. The most recent version at this time. I also had the game end unexpectedly with no error a number of times but reloading seemed to get me past this.<
I'm torn here Brad. I realize it can be discouraging to see alot of negative comments or suggestions from everyone as soon as you complete an update. But I'm sure you don't want the forum filled with a bunch of attaboys either. Let this just be my outstanding blank check, that I like the direction you're taking support for GalCiv and I'm impressed. I bought the game almost soley on the fact that you seemed so commited to make this thing work, that I was sure it would be a success. These are
Or, just make it so that colony ships can be sent back to orbit like transports can be. ~SDC~
Well, I think I read somewhere that each AI had its own seperate C routines, so its a good bet that the core coding was done with a C development tool
Oops, I should have said (See the LINK that Za H just posted.) I also most have been responding at the same time Brad was, so its not quite that big of a news item anyway. I say again, good job on defending a good product Brad. :D
