This happened to me too. Yor had two miserable planets in the corner and suddenly one turn their influence covered the whole galaxy. In a couple more turns my planets started defecting. Unfortunately I did not save that game. I was so annoyed that I want back to the last autosave right away. After I reloaded the influence bug did not reproduce and I successfully conquered the galaxy. And only later it occured to me that I should have saved t

I will definitely buy a miltiplayer expansion when/if it comes out. I have burned a lot of time playing single-player games but nothing can be compared to multiplayer. They are the most memorable. One of the reasons some games don't get played in multiplayer is poor execution of the multiplayer feature. E.g. crashes, no simultaneous turns etc.
Another option: the second (third etc.) starbase has less choices for modules that increase ship attack. As you build a module on one starbase, the choice disappeared on other starbases in this sector. Now we can have a limit of 2 modules per sector and advanced modules that allow 3 or 4 instances per sector, etc. What's good about that is that the micromanagement is handled by the game itself, and the concept it transparent (limit of 2 per sector - that's easy to track for players to
I hoped to use the Star list feature for colonization - but alas, the "best planet quality" sorting is not implemented... Taking into account that many other sorting orders that ARE there seem to be much lees useful, I think it's a shame. Would it be too hard to add "best planet quality" to the sorting orders available?
If you end the game name with a space when saving it, the saved game is corrupt (files are missing in the folder). Could this please be fixed? I lost several nice games before I figured out what it was (I'm playing on a Tablet PC, and it *always* inserts a space at the end unless you go and delete it). Sorry if it has been reported already - this thread is too long for me to read through. But since the bug is still there in 1.03, it might as well not be :)
Icurrently cannot load any of my save games dues to the bug reported earlier on this thread missing graphics after loading, then "red screen", then crash to the desktop. It seems this bug hit me more severely than others. Anyway, since it's a crashing bug, it should be the first priority for the devs ;)
The most fun I had with Stars! was with multiplayer. Playing Stars! with the computer was extremely boring. GalCiv improves here a lot, but no multiplayer. So in the end they are completely different kinds of games after all.
Cari: no room? IT takes only that many pixels of the height! Can we move the actual ship list 10 pixels down (or whatever is needed)? :d ;)
Edit: think of the last proposal the following way: I launch ALL my ships for the duration of the turn, then move them around, and then un-launch all ships that happen to be around planets before the enemy takes turn. That would be convenient. Now, why can't the system do it for me?
I welcome the "tactical" button on the planet list (although it took time to discover it) and associated "tactical map". It makes managing planets and ships so much easier... Question: why is it only on the planet list? I need it for ships just as badly. Would it be hard to put it on the ship list as well? The bug with ordering ships in orbit is still not fixed... it's when a ship in orbit can can be sent out there (e.g. by right-clicking on the mini-map), is reported as "going
