Or heck, even require some ops to occur when one of those little ships that are always wandering on trade routes reach a planet. Then op can proceed from there... Tying trade and espionage together would be an idea. And taking into account techs like the trade tech Smuggling. That would also offer more opportunity. Damian ~SDC~

As soon as the score screen comes up, tab out, get online, make very sure you're online with an active connection, go back to the game, leave the score screen the usual way. ONLY if you're online at that point will GalCiv bring up the option to submit. If there is a bug at this point, submit... after making sure you're online ;) Damian ~SDC~

Max pop growth at 100% morale. One tactic I heard about that I've had great success with is setting military to 90% or 100%, social and/or research taking the rest. Leave it like this for a few turns. Produce only colony ships, plus maybe, _maybe_ a scout or two. Manually launch from your homeworld, autolaunch from the new colonies. Keep spreading until you run out of room to spread in, then change from military production to research for however long you want, then to social to get the

There's actually several parts to a Terror Star. The first technology you gain on that route only allows you to build (if I remember rightly) the _shell_ of a terror star. Not the whole star. You've still got some researching and building to do. Damian ~SDC~

Hover your mouse over the top of each icon, they all have mouseover titles. Except the very right hand one which indicates with two bars that he has played (and submitted) 10-14 games of GalCiv. If you use a browser and go to the GalCiv home page www.galciv.com , click on 'Metaverse' found in the top row of menu items (not the side bar, the top bar) then in the side bar of the next screen, click on the black button marked 'Legend' and you'll get an explanation of all the icons.

Oh, and if you've got supreme intelligence levels, you'll know what technologies they've got, when they got them, what they're paying in tribute (down to the cent, ship and technology) to others and what they're receiving. Logic behind this is: You know more about their empire than they know/You know as much about their empire as they know. As far as knowing what tribute is paid/received, or what trades are going on, it would range from the rumours that are currently received at low/non

Thought of another one: When you get your spying up to supreme levels (you know, where you know as much or more about their government and civilisation than they do, or perhaps even at slightly lesser levels), it would be both fun and interesting to get messages like 'Empire X is thinking of declaring war against Empire Y. They figure that they've the military power to do this and it will be in place in X turns'. 'The people of Empire X are clamouring for war/peace, and their government

Thought of another feature I would like on the diplomacy screen: A matrix showing who likes who, including all minor races. Make it hidden behind a 'More Detail' button on the whatever screen it is that shows the relationships between the major empires. I'm remembering the matrix of 'who's at peace/war' from Warlords/Warlords II. This would help with figuring out whether I should ally with or attack a minor civilisation. I don't really want (and don't like) to attack a

David Ballantyne: Believe me, it won't be too big a pack for a 56k6 modem. I downloaded the game and multimedia on a 56k6 link. It took me several days at the end of a link that had approximately 400 - 500 ms lag most times of the day (this resulted in all kinds of fun trying to download).... except from about 5am - 9am local time. So that is when I did my downloading. At those times I was mostly getting about 80% utilisation from the 56k6. Rest of time it often got as low as 12%, accor

...and user-moderation of messages, something along the lines of what /. (slashdot) has? And have stats of that added to #48. Though I myself don't think that we need stats... I mean, come on. Stats in the game alone is more than enough for me LOL Damian ~SDC~

What about this for a solution (admittedly it means changing the database of ships a little): When a ship gets built, among all the other data saved about that ship, also save the total bonuses that the planet alone gives the ship. Then calculate the attack/defense values on the fly like so: Total value of attack = (base value for ship) * (racial bonuses + resource bonuses + saved bonuses for individual ship) Same for defense values, and (if they're modified by pla
