Hi!
Can a planet benefit from multiple econ bases (i believe so but like concrete knowledge)? Is there a limit to how many they can benefit from?
Yes, the limit is 4 starbases max per sector. With this limitation all comes to the position of the planet within a sector, and the actual "range" of each starbase in this and all neighboring sectors. IIRC in the worst case you can "cover" the planet with 12 starbases, in best with 24.
does population affect prod
Hi!
Sophisticated diplomacy... right.
Sophisticated diplomacy compared to other games in the genre. Hovewer I understand your feelings. I'm a very strong Stars! player. When I bought the game, I had similar expectations: finaly no need for a live opponet. But when I wiped the floor with the tough AI in my second game, I realized I can't expect a real diplomacy from a game for 40 USD. If you'd realy like a challenge, join us on [link="http://starsautohost.org/sta
Hi!
> Buying stuff is a lot more expensive than building things normally Just curious: how much is the difference? 50%?
800% -1000% Yep, 8 to 10 times as expensive. BR, Iztok
Hi!
Has anyone ever really tried this?
I've read a note about that: after some turns game simply crashed. BR, Iztok
Hi! Because you declared me for a Rebel Scum, I refuse to answer any of your questions. Iztok
Hi!
2. How do you get a decent flow of income at the start?
At the start you can't. Those starting 5000 BC are there to help you "bridge" the deficit, until your new colonies grow enough population to start giving money to your empire. Cash anomalies and selling tech just extend that "bridge" a but further. Hi!
i downloaded the game TA and i cant get it to work. When i attac a planet
You can't play a game, but you can attack a planet? How's that possible if you can't play the game? If you didn't notice TA is BETA. Not everything works in beta. Play Dark Avatar or Dread Lords. Those do work. BR, Iztok
Hi!
Well as I understand it the 0-9-0/4-4-4 ship would have really good defense because non-optimal defenses still defend for the square root of thier values. That is to say that 4-4-4 defense actually ends up being 8-8-8 defense
True, but for DL. In DA combat is more complicated, and defenses don't stack. Check the thread [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=421&aid=139395"]DA (Beta) Combat System[/link] for detailed explanation, or wiki: [link="https://www.galciv
Hi!
Where's Iztok when you need him?
Tallyho!!! Iztok to the rescue! ;)
can you comment on this example from an actual situation I had in a game. Dark Avatar.
The answer is simple: if you can match defenses on a single ship with offenses of the whole FLEET of your enemy (at least 75% of defenses), then you use defenses, the rest engine(s) and weapons. On strictly defensive ships even no engines. If you can't match, then you use all-offense sh
Hi!
what use is a large or huge hull (or even medium!) if you can't possibly complete it before your civilization is destroyed by fleets of smaller, more quickly produced ships.
Those quickly produced small ships still have to come to my planets. Without engines that takes quite some time. And if my latest-design-specially-tailored medium can't destroy them, I probably deserve to be destroyed, because I didn't act proactively by paying my attacker to fight someone else.<br
Hi!
How many play multiplayer DA?
Zero. There's no multiplayer in any GC-2 game. BR, Iztok
Hi!
how you guys design your ships in DA.
Bigger hull is better. No hull's big enough. ;) Missiles. No warship without at least one engine. Defense-heavy ships, single or in small fleets until late game, when defenses can't match opponent's fleet attack. Then (but rare) all-attack huge hull. Wiki has some articles there: [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Ship_design_strategies"]Ship design strategies[/link]. Also check Ship combat there. <b
Hi!
Iztok, firstly great to hear from you in one of our League threads, i hope it is a sign of your possible interest in the League.
As first: thank you all for reviewing my random suggestions! Before posting them I just quickly skimmed through the league rules and havent't noticed the rule about requiered difficulty level. I appologize. Regarding my interest in the league I admit I haven't been keen for that, because I've been intensely preparing for another AR-
Hi!
We are after an Influence Victory in a Tiny Galaxy with 4 Opponents. Settings are, Habitable planets - Abundant ... Allow Surrenders
Some random thoughts. Pitty the "judge/jury" can't create a game, post it on the net, and let others battle it out. Or maybe he coud? But then he'd need to manually check each of those 20+ finished games. Too much of work? Why there's no difficulty level specified? When the prime source o
Hi!
The planet just dont seem to want to swap to my side.
Check wiki: [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Influence"]Influence[/link]. There's quite a lot of other data about GC-2 games there. BR, Iztok
Hi!
I've seen a lot of math breakdowns of the other game trades like weapon cost/weight on these boards but haven't found an optimized factory breakdown.
Maybe because that's not a victory-or-defeat issue? ;) In mid or late game I usually "plant" mid-tech buildings on a new planet first. They are cheaper (== faster) to build, and I can also afford to outright buy one or two, which speeds development of that planet even further. Buildings that I use are Factory, T
Hi!
Are happiness, morale, and approval 3 different things?
Yes, and here's how I differentiate them: Morale is better used as morale ability, that represents the bonus that increases happines or approval on your planets. Happines or approval represent a property of pop on a particular planet as a result of applied morale ability, amount of pop on a planet, tax level, various buildings and bonuses/maluses to morale on that pl
Hi!
Does anyone know if there's a "sweet spot" in the game settings that gives the AI its best performance? I play DL 1.5 at Tough difficulty, usually in a Medium sized galaxy.
AFAIK you already are at the "sweet spot" - AIs are optimized for medium galaxy with common planets. But DL is easier to play than DA, esp. because it gives significantly more money, either in form of 2500 BC anomalies, or 40% better tax income. Once you get enough experience, is the game
Hi!
I try to sell them to another civ. Often the AI won't offer any more than 200-300 bc for such a trade good.
IMO the "price" depends on the amount on money an AI has in its treasury. Since they rearely have more than 1000 BC, are prices usually quite the same. You can test that by checking the price, giving AI x0000 BC of (cheated) money, and re-checking the price. BR, Iztok
Hi!
an enemy has 10 lasers and i have 1 shield and 40 armor
In this case your ship will defend with 1 shield plus SQRT(40) rounded down = 6 armors. Then it depends on the game you're playing. You better check the wiki: [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Ship_combat"]Ship combat[/link]. There the combat is explained pretty well. BR, Iztok
Hi!
Thalan domination of larger maps?
Gentlebeings ;) , please do state your game difficulty level when you start whining about some race completely dominating your games. You can not expect ot get any answer ot even attention from just saying "X rules". Please give more data, to enable dev's to draw some conclusion from it. Speaking of Thallans: in all my maso+ games they were always underdogs, a prey for evil civs or me. They were so unlucky I actually excluded
Hi! I'm just finishing a GC-1 game, and can tell you there are some quite unpleasant things in it. The main one is I can't stop spending money on a planet that has built everything I deemed needed there. So its high production only wastes my precious money, and if I keep it producing high-maintenance improvements, its maintenance costs will rise skyhigh, and eat even more of my precious money, while the rest of my planets will still be struggling with production of some semi-advanced improve
Hi!
This seems like yet another fairy tale
You need to remember the game changed A LOT. Those "fairy tales" were real games at some point in that history. There's also the game difficulty level. I've seen posts of faily new players bragging about things I know don't work at maso+ level most of the time. So before you cast another "baron Münchausen" accusation, please ask two things: what game version? What difficulty level? When you'll get the answer, you'll quic
Hi! You forget to mention two very important facts: game difficulty level, and the amount of planets you can expect to get in your game. Without them I can only point you to read more of a Strategy section here on forums. BR, Iztok
