Hi! Comments? Like you said: a morale building helps with growth and higher taxes. If there's no other means to increase natural morale ability (morale resources to mine, morale "wonders" already taken by others), they should be used if the player wants really high taxes (79%) AND good growth (approval 75%+) on most planets. But in late game with 3+ morale resources mined and most morale "wonders" in posession morale buildings become superfluous. If a pla

Hi! But you're playing neutral, right? I don't think you otherwise save that much that way. There is a way. Not an easy one though: gigantic galaxy, 200+ planets, (x)x00,000BC economy, (x)x0,000 surplus each turn. BR, Iztok
Hi! Too bad I can't edit the first post... You should be: check the "button" Tools in the "menu" bar above your first post. BR, Iztok
Hi! I have a 117 mass driver attack vs. his 0 defense against it. They should had a sqrt(their missile defenses) defense value. In your case probably sqrt(36) = 6 defenses against your mass drivers. But you have a point: the off-type defense bug is probably still present, as (at least it seems so) none of your 8 ships had enough firepower to destroy those off-type defenses in a single shoot, so each ship faced only slightly decreased 36 defenses. <br
Hi! Krynn v. Korath Tournament - PLAY NOW! ... This Tournament runs from April 7th to April 21st. That's IMO way too fast. Not all players can play so fast you do. I'm currently playing Korath and am in a winnable position in a small maso game. But my game is far from over yet, and hollidays will be soon over. Playing only at evenings / nights I expect I'll finish it at the end of this week. My point: I'm playing about the speed most other playe
Hi! I'm really trying hard to get a suicidal game in for this challenge, but I just can't seem to find a winning tactic. I get off to a good start but as soon as I wipe out the first guy I get a bad rep and pretty soon the entire galaxy declares war on me, even if I have a good military. On the other hand if I play passively the other AIs just get so far ahead, even if I bribe them into constant conflict with each other. Exactly my experience. I
Hi! To follow my previous post, I have another question regarding invasions. I'm currently playing DA 1.58.78 patch (the latest before beta 1.6), suicidal medium game with fastest tech. I intended to use invasions to get tech, and designed my Torians this way. After invading exactly 21 planets I noticed something "scarry": the tech I've been getting has been only 1, 2 or 3 levels above of what I already had, despite Humans (my last target) had Anti-matter torpedos, and I had nothing
Hi! 2 Bring social spending down to 30%, military to 25% and research up to 45% or so. Tax until i reach 65% approval and use as much industrial capacity as i can without getting a negative income. 3 Start homeworld producing more colony ships and colonise about 4 or so good worlds. i instantly buy one factory on each to get social production started. That's way too slow production of colonizers. You produce a colonizer in ~7 turns. No wonder you
Hi! There are no set turn limits AFAIK there's fixed game lenght of ~200 game years, or ~10000 turns. Don't worry about that: you'd need to actively play the game for 166 hours, if you'd use for each turn only one minute. BT, Iztok
Hi! DA game version 1.59.78 (latest D/L from SD Central) - After I conquered a korx's planet, its trade routes going from it still belonged to Korx. - Thalans declared war on me. In the same turn they contacted me again and told me they went to war with Korath, despite they alrady have been at war with them. The AI's end-turn report told me they and Krath made peace. In the very next turn Thalan contacted me and invited me to join their war against Korath. They did again declare
Hi! I did probably attack them probably a year too early, "too early attack": non-existing term in the "rush" strategy IMO it was not. They'd just go higher with warfare techs and you'd need much large tech investment to beat them. But having the Drengin for the first target is really inconviniet. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Congra
Hi! Try my mod- Randominator (in the library). It randomises, among other things, what AI the enemy civs use. That's exacly what I proposed for a DA! I'll give it a try. Does it randomly assign personalities each time the game is run, or do I have to manualy run "randomizer" for each game? [edit]nevermind, I downloaded it and found all answers. Thank you! BR, Iztok
Hi! Ok I upgraded my ships and i'm still getting my butt whiped. What am i doing wrong? my ships want even give much damage... You're probably hit by the "off-type defence bug". If that's the case you need more attack power in your fleet than their single ship has defenses, regardless if they have wrong defenses on their ships. Can you be more specific with pirates' ships configuration, and your ships? I mean cumulative attack and defense they have, and
Hi! i'm also wondering if just over 60% is enough morale to maintain my political party bonus undera dem. gov't. In my recent testbed I had federation and only one planet: my HW. When elections happened I had there approval of 43%, but still won them. However I might had some hidden bonuses, as I started the game on the easiest level. BR, Iztok
Hi! Also there's the 1bc upkeep cost to Stock Markets. That more-or-less nullifies about half the 5% bonus you get over banks, Not really. Would be true if your planet would be producing only 20BC revenue. In my games at the time I got SMs my average planet produces ~100BC. 5% of 100 is 5, but the upkeep for a SM takes away only 1 of those 5 I gain with SM. BR, Iztok
Hi! Any other race and it's Class 10. I could have sworn I read somewhere that starting worlds are all Class 12 You read wrong. Most races start with class 10, only Thalans have 15, but they don't have a secondary planet. In DA Iconians and Altarians got a boost with their starting planet's PQ. BR, Iztok
Hi! So far this strategy has given me the best start I've ever had. I'm keen to try it with other races, I'm thinking it will work wonders with the Thalans seeing as it will be cheap to get the initial factories up and won't cost most of your budget, the extra production bonuses they get will help too. I think it might also be good with the Torians due to super breeder. IMO the only two races that you might pull off with this strategy are Krynn (VERY hig
Hi! current election system is broken -- you only need to jack up your approval the week of the election, And it shouldn't be. I remember reading a brad's articele where he's been very specific this exploit will not be possible, so I avoided using it. BR, Iztok
Hi! You don't want a 21%-40% approval rating? Why, may I ask? Because of revolts. In this range, planets will defect. In my testbed for generating money I've had the test planet below 40% approval for more than 200 turns, and nothing happened. Even if there is just 1% chance of defection or revolt, it should happen with probability of about 0.87 in those 200 turns. My experience may fell in the remaining 13% cases though. For confirming that I'd
Hi! > and playing the high diplomacy to just buy up the universe doesn't work anymore either. Oh, it does. In fact, it seems to work better than ever before now, and you don't even need any starting diplomacy bonuses or the super-diplomat ability Hush!!! Or it will be gone in the next patch. BR, Iztok
Hi! > Something doesn't add here just the way it should... Tested in current game only - so not a large data sample Thanks for checking. I too did a check by myself - things really don't add here. Seems that going neutral only adds additional 15% to natural morale ability , and is from there on calculated as any other bonus. So Wyndstar's observed ~20% was quite correct, esp. because he didn't pay close attention. It seems to me that
Hi! Just checked, and in DA base morale for a 25B world is 10% ... Each VRC will add the grand total of 4% to that Is that tested? Have you built one / more? I'm curious because the pure 10% bonus from being neutral can hardly explain the reported empire-wide increase in approval by ~20%. Something doesn't add here just the way it should. BR, Iztok
Hi! Tax rate at 100% You can't have tax rate 100% and at the same time any seizable number of population at your planets. With taxes at 100% your morale would go so far down you'd be LOSING population at 10% per turn. Please check again at your Domestic screen what's your tax rate (don't mix it with your spending rate - taxation slider is the top one, spending slider is the next one below it), and post the amount of population you have on your planets. <b
Hi! However, Magnumaniac came up with another three data points that contradict those I previously listed. Different test race alignments (neutral / non-neutral)? BTW in my money production test at that 25+B planet I remember VRCs giving only 4% increase in approval, so a base morale for that planet should be 10%. Now there's a discrepancy with my old knowledge: I remember reading that in DL the floor for base morale is 10%. But that's not consis
Hi! For that small a difference in income, it's better to take the population anyway Depends on rece's morale ability, if you can afford running taxes at the same percentage in both cases and still keep your planets above target approval. In my small games I rather prefer 13B. BR, Iztok
