I wasn't going to ask this question until closer to the 21st, but it was on my mind. So thanks for bringing it up. That said, Suralle's answer saddens me. I don't have to work that day until 1700 EST... I was hoping for some significant early-morning playing time. As it is it looks like I'll barely get in an hour or so. D'oh! - Ash

will there be options to upgrade infantry type units Ground troops are not specifically "upgraded" as such, but when you invade a planet, there are various types of warfare that you choose from that offer different combat bonuses (varying in terms of the size of the combat bonus, the cost of using the type, and the damage it may do to the planet's bu

And, no, I'm not going to tell you what any of the cheats are. I knew it! Oh well. We'll just all start e-mailing Brad .wav files of us mispronouncing "Drengin" over and over again until he breaks and spills the beans. - Ash

We love all types of diplomacy from sitting down chatting in forums, to watching someones face as they look down the business end of one of our Peace Maker Battlecruisers Do your aggressive negotiations come with Natalie Portman, too? - Ash

That would be my understanding as well... they've talked about how any game intended to be submitted the Metaverse uses a protected set of data files (you have to select Metaverse from the game menu to play a submittable game) - meaning you can't use mods with those games, or anything. I would think cheats would be even more verboten than mods in such a situation. - Ash

I believe there are cheat codes, yes. Dig around here, I know someone of importance mentioned a flag for running the galciv.exe to run it in cheat mode. Whether or not they'll tell us what the cheat codes associated with that are, on the other hand... - Ash

Yep. I knew what you meant from the first time you posted it. I don't know how big a deal it is, though, Since we can custom design all of our ships, anyway, I don't even think I'll be using the pre-designed ship for more than the occasional Colony Ship or Troop Transport. - Ash

What ignusss said. If you only downloaded ~200MB of files with your preload, you didn't get everything that was available. That would just be the core game files (sufficient to play, but not everything). Click that "+" icon beside the Gal Civ 2 listing in SDC, and you'll see that there are seperate listings for the Tutorials, Movies, and Multimedia. Downloading all of that brings the total size to over 1GB, and will mean you'll only have a few MB to get on the 21st. - Ash

There were a couple of Dev Journals during the beta that covered this stuff in detail: Armour: https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=92779 Weapons: https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=92767 If that doesn't tell you more than you possibly wanted to know, I don't know who could. - Ash

So, you are saying the extra components are really nothing more then bits and pieces to add on to your ship for looks only? Nothing added to really change the way it behaves, or any real outworking that would give an advantage over an opponent? I guess I am still a bit in the dark on this one. Everything I have heard and read around

You downloaded at over a meg per second? That's hardly fair. What kind of connection do you have? That's insane speed! Over here at the office we're all sharing a 3 megabit connection. Yes, but you have the game . Ask him if he'd trade you his connection speed for the final EXE and whatnot. I bet I know what the answer would be. <im

Any Joss Whedon fans here? From what I've seen, I think Brad has the right sense of humour to do a pricelessly funny Joss Whedon-style commentary. "And that's how we almost screwed that scene up. But fortunately, no one will ever know, unless I say something stupid on a DVD commentary. But what are the odds of that happening?" - Ash

So, some of you are saying that if you pre-order either place you will still get the additional ship components as part of the deal? Can this truly be confirmed? This confuses the heck out of me, too, so it may require a SD answer to set it properly straight, but my understanding is this: - EVERYONE who buys the game, preorder o

I know I've seen a couple of screenshots and the like of the player asking/receiving tribute/gifts from the AI. So it's certainly "possible". Whether or not it will be frequent enough for individual people's tastes - well, I imagine we'll have to wait to play the game to find out for ourselves. - Ash
