I have to agree with Big Fat Daddy. While it's easy to say we need a law and assume that will take care of the problem, it is also naive. All the gun laws on the books, even 'strict' laws (whatever that means ... I think for the most part gun laws are strict. You generally don't get off easy for a gun violation) don't do squat if: (1) those laws are not enforced adequately, and (2) stupidity continues to exist, which you can't legislate out of
Maybe they should change the date to send in your taxes so we can get our money back faster.
My local congressman has proposed a bill to establish a 'tax holiday' whereby taxpayers (income and FICA) are exempt from tax for January and February 2009. For instance the media in an effort to give equal time to both sides would give the false impression that climatologist
Being a skeptic is a fine thing, there's much pseudoscience in our culture to be skeptical about. A skeptic must first consider the source of various claims and whether or not the claimers have anything to gain from its promotion as the beginning of any skeptical analysis. Then a thorough examination of the claim itself along with consideration given to possible motivations of why someone would want to deny said claims. Also is this claim being made by an individual or a group? If you
I've felt for some time that it would be refreshing, not to mention enlightening, for the 'talking heads' to be held accountable for their predictions so future trustworthiness could be placed appropriately. Unfortunately, we depend largely on the media to do that job. To expect those that have difficulty remembering what they themselves said last Tuesday much less what some talking head said in the last decade is too much to ask.

I always thought the zombies swarmed the mall because that is where the 'food' was ... food being the brains of the living.
And just like the zombie, nothing is ever good enough. The zombie never stops at some point and decides it is satisfied but rather must continually feast. What do you want to bet some bookmaker has a line on this very thing, or some variation thereof? It is a bit chilling, though and makes you wonder how far back the line will be drawn in the area of banned words/actions or thoughts.
An interesting ancillary point. Given that Obama has made it apparent he will let the tax cuts enacted by Congress expire; thereby increasing taxes for everyone (well I suppose those not paying taxes won't see an increase), can one assume he will simultaneously or perhaps pre-emptively lower tax rates on all but the 'rich' to not only offset the increased tax burden as a result of expired cuts but to also lower those rates even further in order to follow through on his campaign promise
How does "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Or the variants of it (Rabbi Hillel actually was the source of those words) imply belief in a religion?
And if someones moral beliefs don't include that tenet? Do their beliefs not qualify as a religion because it is not one of the state approved/sanctioned religions? Would not denying someone their form of religion because it wasn't on the 'approved list' violate that so-called separation? &n
If one doesn't believe in religion per se, the system of morality espoused in them shouldn't be discarded willy nilly. We should take care of others. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.", and "What you do unto the least of my brothers you do also to me." come to mind. These are the basis for the social contract that exists between us all.
I think you are making an assumption here that every person's 'religion', which is essential
I believe it is more of an indictment of the Media and its failure to inform the voters. As for Obama voters, I would guess a large portion of them were voting for 'more stuff for me' so being intelligently informed of the issues didn't come into play, particularly when they weren't getting anything substantial from the media.
Going by the logic presented in this article (and the OP does make a good point) any and all forms of taxation are socialism and therefore evil, correct?
That's not logic, it's more of a wild-assed leap into hyperbole. However to address the issue ... taxation can and should be equated to dues paid to a property owners association in the OP example. Everyone in the neighborhood pays their dues which go towards the upkeep of the neighborhood ( common areas,

Ironic reversal of roles from the usual stereotype. I can't help but note the roles, methods, and habits that have stayed the same but with different players. On the one hand you have the 'Government'. No real change there. Someone is in trouble; throw money at them with no consideration to whether it will actually help, much less any concern about the behavior that got those people into trouble to begin with or a plan to help them change their ways in order to be more productive. On the other hand, you have the investors/banke
Two things may come out of Obama’s presidency: 1.) Thanks to Political Correctness, one may not be able to seriously criticize the man, without being called a racist; this is a very common occurance, and we see it happen all the time.
He never played the race card. He focussed on policy and rhetoric.
