Staffa: I apologise if I overstepped the mark. Put it down to me being over-excited at cracking the Top 25 thru playing cheesy version 1.20. Forgive me? Have you ever even CONTEMPLATED visiting the Southern Hemisphere. If so, join the ANZACs. ;p

Coffee, sheesh, are you a "European" by any chance? My sarcasm gets me into HEAPS of trouble, and I KNOW that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. I would NEVER intentionally insult or even mildly disturb a G.R.O.S.S. person. At least EBZM is on your side. Some quick comments: 1. In the Southern Hemisphere we say that "If you are not number one, you have lost". 2. Nonetheless, I think that everyone is a winner in their own small way. You (and everyone who plays the game) at ANY

Kiwi Greg: Still, well done. Was it fun? I do milk games at the end for extra points, but its the only way I can contribute in some small way to the Southern Hemisphere. Lets hope the scoring system is overhauled to eventually embarrass milkers like me. In the meantime, I LOVE that medal. Yet, as Cataleptic would say: "you are either number one, or you've lost". Pontius: Damn, in my games I've never got the Olympiad. The Torians did, but then the swimmers ran amok and trashed thei

Staffa: By the mid-game, with a large military its possible on the same turn to declare war against a weak civ and then make peace for obscene reparations. (Assuming they have the cash of-course).

I catapulted into the Top 25 and got a shiny new medal (which now appears on ALL previous posts) by playing a sensible large map (7,630 points). I only had to milk for 30 minutes or so (unlike that another chap who got 26,000 or whatever by milking for 10 hours). Coffee: If you can't win on crippling or at least painful you are just not trying. Fortunately, G.R.O.S.S. is not about winning or scoring.

Each of my games are now: colony rush; build up military (corvettes) to discourage wars and to win one if it is declared; once military supremacy is achieved, the constructor rush; leading to a tide of culture swamping. Victory.

Galciv is continually being improved. So, to make it the best game it can possibly be, the Metaverse needs to be overhauled. The Metaverse mechanics (for those that care) currently discourage: updating the game; small maps; higher difficulty levels; victory paths which cost population (ie military). Another thread discussed possible improvements in its *structure* and most writers liked the idea of having separate charts for each map size. This would potentially increase the fun factor by ho

Pontius, did you read the Declaration of Something-or-other on Lap Poodles' thread? Good grief. I actually felt like hugging him and everyone. And of-course, I for one commiserate with you on losing your very large game. On-the-other-hand, check out my sparklers which I just got (especially the grey cross with... I think its a self-gratulatory handshake). :D

Mate, have you thought about joining G.R.O.S.S.? Where do I start. Every strategy is unique to the player. Having said that, there seem to be a few flaws in your early game strategy that can only but lead to defeat. Check out the ANZAC or G.R.O.S.S. threads for some player's strategies (in amongst the crap).

Referring to #54: I actually feel *mean* in how I just treated the Torians. I noticed their military had nosedived during a war with the Drengin. So, I telephoned the Drengin and announced I was going to war with the Arceans (with whom I had no trade). Unfortunately, the Drengin wouldn't give me any money for this. Then, I immediately called the Arceans and offered peace. They gave me 305 credits for 12 turns. The next turn they called and said that as I was so swell they were gifting me 106

Pontius #44: Just so we Southern Hemisphereans can get a frame of reference, would you describe those as 'not so bad areas' or 'bad areas'? bigman2013 #45: This once again proves that it is next to impossible to influence a Yank, once they get an idea in their head.

Well here I go. Alzandrion, I sense that you once contemplated visiting the Southern Hemisphere. That means you may be eligible to join the ANZACs. I seem to recall Pontius or someone saying that you have to be a member of an Empire before you can contribute scores to the Metaverse.

Now I'm no history buff, but I saw a very short (British) show on Washington. The gist of it seemed to be that if the French hadn't stuck their Gaellic noses in, America would not have won the War of Independence and would today be just like Canada. To relate that back to Galciv, it means that the Former British Possessions Empire would PROUDLY be number one as we speak, closely followed by the British Empire.

Go to Javascout's Galactic Civilisations Database thread. He has produced the best tech tree which one can print in *colour*. Some prefer not to know where a tech will lead: personally, I prefer to know cause the roadkill certainly do. My strategy: Early on I rush for Communication Theory, Uiversal Translator and Diplomacy. This allows one to communicate with the roadkill, and also move to a Republic (better economy), and to purchase the trade good Diplomatic Translators (for signif

Oh come on Copernicus (any relation?)...you're just being silly now. The kiwifruit is NEVER ripe. As you would KNOW hard kiwifruit actually riles the hippos much more. Just tonight (ie Friday night, and we are actually ahead of you chaps, but its not a thing) a couple of "Europeans" as they are now called, got trampled. It made me think of a joke at the time, but I've momentarily forgotten. Oh yes, this did the rounds a few months ago: You know the World's gone crazy when th
