I've traded for them from other civs before, but afterward, I can't find any record of receiving the benefits. Is there any screen that shows what trade goods you are currently enjoying? I think it's a great concept, but the documentation in-game on what's going on is woefully unrepresented.

I'm getting whipped a lot too, but I chalk it up more to inexperience than a problem with the game. In my latest game, I've got it set to all good, all sub-normal, and I'm currently winning on a large galaxy without selling any tech. I feel like I'm really starting to get the hang of it... Of course, as soon as I bump it up a difficulty notch, I'm sure I'll go right back to getting creamed. Such is the life of a TBS junkie!
Did I mention I love you, Frogboy?
Actually, perhaps you're trying to criticize the nitpickers wampyre, but I have noticed a multitude of spelling and grammatical errors in the game. Perhaps that is nitpicky, but it's also distracting and annoying when the user has to stop and try to figure out what a particular sentence means, rather than how it impacts one's empire. Note to all: never pluralize with an apostrophe. Just don't. Honestly, where do people learn that? Are they teaching it in schools these days?
I think there are a couple of other threads on this, but I'm pulling my hair out here... I'm about 6-7 hours into the game, and every single time I begin playing, I have my game ended by one sudden random event. I remember reading on this site that Brad hates random game-killing events... yet there sure seem to be quite a few of them in there. My latest game, which has me pretty freakin boiling mad right now... I was finally winning. Doing well across the board, had one killer star b
I'm only about 4 hours into this game total, and I've already become highly aware of the fact that the random events are totally unbalanced. In particular - the "+14 to all planets nearby" one and, early game, the finding of a precurser ranger. The whole point of a strategy game is to live and die by your brainpower... not to lose to some random piece of crud event. If I wanted that, I'd go play Yahtzee.
Right now I'm still listening to the GalCiv music, but when I tire of that I'm sure a little Dimmu Borgir or anything from WWIII music will go quite nicely with my evil empire.
