I can't get this to work. It just tells me that the name in the specified target box is not valid. I've tried simply adding a w to the end, using the exact quote from above "C:\program files\stardock\galciv2\galciv2.exe" w, using a dash, using a space, using no space, using everything I can think of. There really must be better instructions than this. The readme is utterly uninformative.

I can't get the game to install. I bought the retail version, installed from the CD. I can't update the game either through the stand-alone download online or Stardock Central. Stardock Central displays this error: There was an error installing Galactic Civilizations II. The following error occurred: Move: C:\Games\GalCiv2\SDPlugins\DXAxHost.dll 0 | 0 Access is denied. | 12/11/2005 20:48 Result: Installation failed (29) Here is the tail end of the Instal

Collector's edition? #@$%! I never saw it on the shelf, and didn't dig deep enough on this site before buying to even know it existed. I would have gladly picked it up had I known. I hate getting screwed over by collector's editions coming out after I buy the "suck" editon. It seems almost every DVD I buy (and a lot of my music, damn you Nuclear Blast) does this. I would gladly pay a few extra bucks for the tech tree/content. Is there anyway to do this? I can't stand loading the game for

Popping in here for the first time in a couple of years... just wanted ya to know, Brad, I picked up my copy at lunch and can't believe how slowly time is passing! I can't wait to get home and get addicted all over again. Fantastic to see Stardock doing well!

Hey folks. I was flipping through the threads on this forum for the first time in a little while, and I still have a question: What exactly does it mean when one empire goes to war with another? I took some flak for laughing about this a few months ago, so let me clarify - this is not intended as a flame. I love GalCiv and other TBS games, so I'm pretty much just as much of a nerd as the next guy on here, but I still don't understand the whole Metaverse/fiction concept. When The J

There should NOT be short-term payoffs for choosing good. The benefits from being good are dramatic, and repeated playing - especially at higher difficulty levels - will show you. To give the good choice a quick payoff completely defeats the entire purpose, and would be MASSIVELY unbalancing. If you think good is worthless, just keep playing and testing and you'll see what people mean.

Actually, it stands for G** D*** Independent. Something you'll hear on American college campusus. Since you're all convinced I'm suicidal, I've e-mailed Stardock to see if it's a bannable offense. I DON'T want to be banned, so if it's a no-go, I'll happily change it. Just yankin' you guys' chains. How could you not get a good laugh?

You mean GalCiv II, not GalCiv version 2.0 - we're almost at 2.0 already. Since GalCiv II - if it comes - won't be for a long, long time, I'd be more interested in hearing about post-free expansion features. :D I'm perfectly willing to wait until after the expansion is released, however. There's so much coming in that, it's candy enough to think about that instead of worrying about even further down the road.

This is the type of thread I'm talking about. Ya bunch of nerds. I clicked on this hoping to see some highly intelligent, evolved discussion about bovine consumption patterns in GalCiv and instead, it's "Useless empire babble thread #5,634,167". Who cares? Who really cares? What does an empire membership have to do with the game? Does it make a hill of beans of difference when you're playing?

My ranking: Arcean Torian Altarian Drengin Yor I always play with the Yor boosted in intelligence level just to give them a chance. I usually play as good or neutral, so perhaps if I was evil more often I would have more troubles with the Altarians.

Would it be possible to create a new forum called "Empire Babble" or somesuch, so that we could scrape off all these empire threads that clutter the front page? Those of us who are GDI would probably appreciate not having to search past all the useless threads to find actual content.

I have to admit that I'm intrigued... I read the write-up for the late July game and it sounds exciting. I'm simply not a good enough player to pull it off! I can only win at challenging about 40-50% of the time at this point, and that's probably using a reload once or so per game. I've probably found my difficulty level niche.

The bloody program reported my score as "anomalous". Considering I've never installed a single mod or library item, I was quite ticked off. I think it was just a problem with that version number of the game. There's a two month gap in between my reported scores while I was playing that version where it simply wouldn't report to the Metaverse at all... except for that one time when it was borked.

-936, ROFL. My very first game I played, I had no idea what I was doing. I lost and submitted it just to check out the Metaverse system. Since then, I haven't lost a game since I bail out if it's clear it's all over. Just last night, I was quite pissed off that a game that had been going well suddenly turned into a pit when all 4 remaining races declared war on me the same turn. 10 turns later, I didn't have a ship to my name and the transports were marching in...

I must be the only one (ok, maybe me and Yook) that doesn't give a fig about multiplayer and never will. I don't have the time, schedule, or contacts to play any strategy games multiplayer. I play computer games to entertain myself for about an hour at a time. It's more stimulating than television, at any rate. All I want is a good, clean, challenge at single player - I will never purchase a game based on multiplayer. Heck, I loved Diabloii and I ONLY played that single player.
