Follow up: Color me embarassed. After reproducing the "No galaxy graphics" a dozen times (including just using Human and Iconians), I posted the above, and went back to GC2 to bug hunt a bit more. All races - Iconians start: No galaxy graphics. Repeated that for the next 6 tries, including exitting completely and then starting up the GC2 game. Each restart with no graphics also have the same problem: Earth does not start with a Colony base, nor a

Beta 3a If I include the Iconians in a new game, my galaxy map graphics are not displayed. No background, no stars, no planets, no ships, etc etc etc. Tool tips are still displayed. User interface is still displayed. All other screens seem functional. If the Iconians are not included in a game, galaxy graphics are fine. Hardware: NVidia GeForce4 440 (w/ Latest known drivers) I can supply more details as needed. From the symptoms, I won
Minor Bug: If you quit a current game and start a new game, the Tech Tree *Display* does not get reset. The Tech Known does.
Go go Cari!
Copy protection has never worked. It might stop the casual copier, but anyone that wants to get a pirated copy of a game, will. If you want a pirated copy of a 4 DVD server package, it doesn't take 5 minutes to find it. Often, the developers are the originating source of the pirated software! They give a copy or two to their friends and favorite relatives, and from there, it's off and on the net. Copy protection only screws the honest customers.
The original colony ship isn't balanced/designed for your current starting tech. The Mighty Star Dockians have informed us that will be addressed in a later beta.
 Relic Robot, remember, you can call the aliens Pot, Spoon, and Fork. You are using a super-computer translator, so if you want to call the Yor's home world "Target 1", it doesn't matter. The aliens don't hear your words, just what their translator says your translator sent them. And names are wacko anyways. If you run one of my ex's girlfriend's name through a universal translator, it would come out as "Holy house belonging small god". There is no tell
Note: Frogboy just posted that Beta2 should be available on the server tonight. So there. *blows a raspberry* ( )
Star Dock ususally delivers when they say they will, jreynol2. This beta, however, is waiting on them getting physically moved. Businesses rarely move on time in my experience. So if Beta2 takes a while, oh well. You could always write your own game and share it with us, if you can do better.
It's not hysterical fear. I like RTS. I like TBS. Both have their strengths. Both have their drawbacks. I don't mind a little mixxing and matching when it's done to good effect. ie, the original X-COM used RTS on the main map and TBS tactical. That worked well for that environment and helped build a suspense and tension (very fitting for the game). Homeworld was an RTS that required lots of pause and order, making it practically TBS in certain scenarios. RTS battles have no place in a T
Just release it in Lojban and let the Lojban community translate it into all the other major languages (including Klingon ).
GoblinCookie, I don't think the government style would matter. The people can be in exact step with their government, or be very different. In a pure good society, you could have a dictatorship, if arranged in a Holy and Good empire. Think of a good society in which those above have a duty to those below, and those below have a duty to those above (ala uncorrupted Fuedal loyality system). If the few do what is best for all, then you still have a good society
RTS has no place in TBS. If people want to play an RTS game, they should go play one! RTS battles in a TBS game are completely out of place. RTS battles in MoO3 did suck! Why? Because the human player (you know, the guy or gal that paid money for the game) couldn't really tell what the effect of "his" designs had. There was no real tactics involved. If players cannot tell what the effects of their designs have, then there is no point in letting the player de
Lucian Gyiira, From what I recall of what we've been told of the inner workings of GC1, each major civ had its own AI with its own distinct strategy. I expect GC2's AI will follow that tradition as well.
If people want to argue that the Mac is the better computer, they should take it up with the Big Apple. It seems he doesn't agree. It seems he doesn't believe that Apples were the better computer for several years now. And that it cannot be, until they join the modern PC world and use its hardware and its software. That's why Apple is switching. It swapped its OS. And now it is swapping its harware. That's all according to Big Apple himself.
The GC2 beta 1 definately shows off the main new features, world management and ship design. World management is interesting... it's possible to make a big industry world, and have several smaller worlds to pay for it. Or, you can make a world a research center. Whatever you want or need. That's very sweet. Ship design is nice. Now, you can design what you need, rather then just make do. You can make a long range colonizer design, for instance. Small fighter
People that miss pre-ordering for the deadline for getting into the Beta 2 will be able to get into Beta 3. Pre-orders are automatically added to the next phase's Beta list. I *think* that TotalGaming.net members always have access to the Beta, regardless of when they sign up.
That sounds like a Drengin coding shack!
Ground combat isn't a priority for GC2. They'd like to spiff it up and expand it, but that might have to wait until an expansion or GC3, depending on how things go during GC2 development. Note: This is all AIR, and I may just be completely lost in space.
Good luck on the move! Lucky Jack, that's what they said they'd do with Beta 1. They closed it off to pre-orders after a certain time. Those pre-orders after date X would have to wait until Beta 2 started. IIRC, they told us this was to limit the number of "newbie" questions that would arise from the testers. Didn't they let any Total Game Network subscriber enter Beta 1 at any time? I think that was one of the benefits of being a TGN subscriber.</f
Why do people want the Yor repeating the Matrix? Or do you want the Yor livestocking ignorant humans? Which is it? Do you know the amount of energy that would waste? The Yor aren't retarded, unlike the premise and the "science" of Matrix. The Yor can go out and harvest all the hydrocarbons they want from any source of normal matter! That's nebula, worlds (rocky and gas giants), comets, asteriods... everything in the universe! Why would the Yor bother to "husband" any living creatures, w
Software development isn't an exact science. So all the whiners demanding a date should just go stuff their head in a refrigerator for a while until they have cooled off. If you want a well done game, then don't "demand" it be delivered by a certain date. That's what is wrong with most of the game industry. They have to deliver their products by a certain hard date, and whatever state the software is in, well, that's its shape when its sent off. That's why every mainstream retail game has to be
The Yor may just slurry organics, and turn it into its base elements and hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are our choice of power because they yeild the same energy as the equivalent mass of hydrogen. (For examples of how to process anything back to hydrocarbons, look at: Link - Anything into Oil) Now, why would anyone choose to not use "free" solar power, if they can? The answer is: energy yeilded. If you were to have a 100% effic
