Hi CariElf, thanks for answering my questions! I just tried 1) again. And you are right, I can move when my opponent is. Chalk this up to user idiocy. 2) and 3) are mentioned in 'The Game' link on this site. But that documentation may not be up to date any more. I'm happy that I'm not missing something obvious, at least. Thanks again.

Just checked out the Political Machine, and I'm quite impressed. I am a little lost because there's not a lot of documentation available, so any help will be appreciated. 1) When the question marks come up, it seems that my opponent always gets to them first, because he goes first. I don't have the opportunity to 'fly' to that state until he's done with his moves, and he grabs all the goodies before I can. Is this by design? 2) T

Congrats to the Diplomats Empire for getting to the beta phase for version 1.4. :D I have added a link to this thread, along with an explanation that I am no longer maintaining the Writer, to the GalCiv Writer home page. Please send me an e-mail when you feel it should be best to take down the home page, to prevent confusion. Thanks for keeping this project alive!

Try using the 'Synchronize 2 Files' function in English.str editing. Instructions in the Help file. I use it all the time, it works like a champ.

Version 1.3.0 is posted. It's got some bug fixes + it fully supports the changes made to GalCiv by the X-Pack. Grab it while it's hot! :) http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm ~SDC~
Do you think that the old mods should be redone, or will they work with the exp pack?
Both the Writer and GalCiv work just fine with mods written for older versions. 100% backwards compatible. ~SDC~

Last installment for this thread. I know most of this information is already obvious to anyone who's already downloaded the X-Pack, but here goes: CHANGES IN 1.10A.073: ***New/Replaced files*** DeathKnight.ship (replaced) Starbase.ship (replaced) English.str (replaced) xtechs.tech (replaced) ***Things of interest*** 1) The DeathKnight has evolved from an 'Evil' only ship to merely a more expensive BB substitute. It would appear that Stardock ran o

I don't know of any way to mod them out. You could always not sell them any tech. If you feel it is an abuse, don't do it. ~SDC~

There's also a bug report I haven't had the chance to verify for myself that Invasion Tactics ignore tech requirements. I plan to test this over the weekend, though I'm pretty sure that I have tested it before and it *does* work. If you screw up the Tech Requirement name, it won't work properly, perhaps this is what is happening. I don't know yet.
And I have tried the GalCiv writer but it rquires you to put in the highest id number for techs, trade goods, and a couple of other things. If you don't put these in it will say there is an error.
Those settings should serve as a starting point. There are specific ceilings for trade goods and other things, but not Techs. What is the error that you are getting?

Whoops, sorry I've been out of touch guys and gals. I've been very, very ill but have finally turned the corner (crosses fingers). OK, so to catch up: #219
I've got two questions for ya. When making a new event is it ok to use 24/16M PCX images instead of 8/256 ones? Stardock seems to use those. If I have to reduce to number of colours it really ruins my event image.
I've only got it to work at 8/256, 640x360.
And the second que
it would seem that 1.092 does not increase scores for difficulties under Maso.
My Medium-Crippling 1.092 games have definitely seen an increase, so this point is in question. To all, sorry I've been scarce this week. I had a major ear-ache knock me out of commission. Spent most of this week doped up and babbling incoherently while shivering through fever dreams, but this morning I'm feeling much improved. The wonders of antibiotics. I see FriendJosh h
No it will not work, you need certain program that is only found in the galciv writer, but you can ask HawaiiFive-0 about it.
I'm flattered, but this is not true. You can certainly use Notepad to edit any of the text files GalCiv uses.
However, GCWriter is still strongly recommended because of its error- and bounds-checking capabilities.
I would agree, but of course I'm biased. :D

The cheat codes don't exist in 1.05. You must have 1.09 for them to work. CTRL-U reveals the map. Fog Of War comes in two flavors, opaque = you've never been there, greyed out = you have no units that can currently 'see' there. CTRL-U drops the FOW ~SDC~
in fact every time i try maso i get my buttox kicked sevearly no matter what i do or size, rarity tightness
They really need to add another level in between Crippling and Maso. :) Playing Crippling, my win is a forgone conclusion. I toss the AIs around at my leisure. Playing Maso, *I'm* the one who wakes up feeling sticky and used. ;) ~SDC~
