Here are some specific questions that arose while working with the Events files. If someone could take a moment to answer/clarify/expound, I would greatly appreciate it. 1) In BoogieBac's tutorial, he states that Morality Weight is a value between 1 and 5. However, in some of the bonuspak events (MoNatives for instance), Morality Weight is greater than 5. Are the bonuspak events in error? 2) In BoogieBac's tutorial, under Colonization Options, he lists 8 as Defense Bonus and

Malleus: I sent you a copy at 10:16 AM this morning Pacific time. Have you received it yet? I can resend it if necessary.
Looking at your event, I'd change the following: 1) Set GoodAttribute, NeutralAttribute, EvilAttribute all to 0. Looks like you are just using PopChanges, so no attributes are needed. 2) There is no need to set NeutralOptStr01 and EvilOptStr01 as you aren't using wild cards in the option text. Set these to zeros. 3) Make sure you don't have any line breaks in any fields surrounded by quotes, IOW the Description and Option fields. If you would like a line break, use
Excellent! I wait for it then.
4D: Thanks for the kind words. The biggest roadblock to continued development is understanding what all the flags in the files mean and do. I've posted a request for information on the next file I'm going take a swing at, UPIssues.
There's interest in me expanding my GalCiv Writer, and I thought I'd tackle UPIssues next. Do you have a second to post a few explanations of the flags contained therein? //---------------- UPISSUE TradeFed01 [OBVIOUS] //---------------- Question "To protect galactic trade ..." [OBVIOUS] SubQuestion "" [NOT OBVIOUS, I GUESS THIS IS THAT 2ND WINDOW YOU CAN POP UP BUT THAT ALWAYS DISPLAYS EXACTLY WHAT WAS IN THE MAIN WINDOW] Option01 "Yes"
RustyBlade: Both of my attempts to email you the install package were returned undeliverable. Do you have another email I should try?
A beta version of my Event Writer program is now available for any hardy souls who'd like to give it a try. You can find a screenshot here: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciveventwriter.jpg You can find the instructions file here: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/EventsInstructions.txt This program has *not* been put through vigorous stress testing, so I do not recommend you install it without knowing what you are getting into. It will make several backups of the .even
No worries :) The event system is certainly adequate, but there is definite room for improvement. Multiple effects, chained events, more effects (other than civ/planet attributes), and more would be nice. 'Course, if StarDock revamps the events system I'll have to revamp my proggy, but such is life. It'd be a small price to pay for more flexibility.
I believe the current event structure limits you 2 effects, 1 which is population change, the other you can choose. Now, you can set population change to be zero, effectively creating only 1 effect, but you can't do as you would like, IOW have 2 effects without one of them being population change.
OK, I'm working on it some more today. I've moved the Events editing screen onto it's own form, preparing for *possibly* adding editing features for some of the other files (no promises, I've got a lot of work commitments but programming little projects like this helps me to decompress- I know I'm weird, I like to take a break from programming by programming... :p ). Working on data validation and saving now. Added a new "Review" function that will show you how it should print in gam
russellmz2: Your event has 2 problems that I can see. First, in all the files I've looked at, Probability is ALWAYS 100. This feature might not be fully implemented, so I'd take it up to 100 from 80. Secondly, you have the GoodOptStr01 and EvilOptStr01 values reversed. Evil comes first, so it is 9, Good comes third, so it should be 11. BoogieBac: A few questions. First, as noted above, Probability is always 100 in the files, so perhaps this feature is not fully implemented? <
What would be really nice is if you were told what was going to be voted on about 3 months beforehand. So then going to the other races and buying up Influence if you just have to get your way in the coming vote could be possible, or you could sell your Influence if you didn't really care which way the vote went. The AI would have to be taught to "work the system" too, but I think this would be a neat addition to the Diplomacy system.
I have seen #1 as well, many times. I thought it was because the displayed speed for the AI ship didn't take into account any bonuses, but it could certainly be a bug.
I believe that some of the more annoying random events only happen to Bad civs as well (the Fundamentalists event is one of these).
Thanks Fredrik, found it about half a minute before you posted. I appreciate the help!
AAHH!! Found it! Get into SDC Tools>>Settings>>Show Application Revisions I feel much better now. :)
Where, where do you find it? That's what I'm talking about. I don't see it. Can you give me a detailed description of where you see "1.01a.030"? Please? Did I mention this is driving me crazy?
Thanks, yes I've seen that, but it only says "1.01a", not "1.01a.30" or something like that. Is this the only place the version is listed?
Does anyone know where you can see what version you have installed? For the life of me I can't find it, and it's driving me crazy.
