Papaya, mango, lychee. :d All good stuff. I miss the food you can get in Hawaii, mostly. Good for your banker friend, it's a great place to live. I just wanted to get ahead in life, make some money, so when I move back I can afford a house and the good life. Plus, when you grow up there, you don't really know what you've got until you spend time away from it. But the Mainland has a lot going for it too. ~SDC~

'Pineapple Programmer' !?! Dear god, no! That's a pet peeve of mine, you know. Growing up in Hawaii, I ate pineapple maybe once or twice a year. But apparently most of the Mainland seems to believe it's a staple food for us. Listen, slapping a piece of pineapple on a breast of chicken does not mean you can call the dish 'Hawaiian Chicken', OK? :) Yup, there's DSL/cable Internet in Hawaii. But the economy's lousy. It's been lousy for over a decade now. You know the '90s b
Thank you very much for reposting that, answers all of my questions. The Time Of Troubles, there were giants back then, with names like Staffa, Sergey, and RayChua the Grey. 'Course you've returned to us as RayChua the White to lead us into battle. I don't know how much use I'll be in helping us overtake the Canuckistanian Hordes, and of course we've got the ANZACs hot on our heels, but I'll try to get another game in this week. That one ANZAC, Space Wombat, has an un
Not currently, I'm living in San Francisco right now. But I grew up in Hawaii, lived there for 28 years before striking out to find fame and fortune on the Mainland. Actually, I'll pass on the fame and take a double helping of fortune, please. :d I don't know why I settled on HawaiiFive-O as my nick, I've been using it for years now. I wanted something that said 'Hawaii' without it being 'Pineapple' or 'Hula' or something like that. ~SDC~
I did wanna try Hawaii's new Galciv Writer which apparently lets you edit the strings file now
It sure does. It even has a synchronization feature that will allow you to compare two files and import the differences. This'll be key as Stardock adds to the English.str file all the time. You'll be able to see what's new and update your file without losing all your hard work. ~SDC~
I didn't pay close enough attention during the Time Of Troubles (the Metaverse scoring hullabaloo from a week ago), so could someone confirm my observations as far as scoring goes. I skimmed those threads so I'm pretty sure I've got this stuff right: a) Time to completion doesn't matter. b) Type of wins matters a great deal, in order of strength: Military, Alliance, Cultural, Tech. c) Pop + TGs + Wonders count, but not that much in the scheme of things. d) Final Score = (Su
I hear you. It's hard to find the time, the Writer basically took all my free time for 4 weeks and I'm not eager to take on another project any time soon. So I'm hoping one of y'all will. ;) ~SDC~
Quite often with the terraformer I've not gotten any jump on planets I paid attention when I built the Terraformer last night, and my Civ stats page showed a jump of +10% PQ, and that's all. So I'd imagine that the Terraformer does just do what you would expect from the data files. ~SDC~
Excellent! Do you plan on doing anything with the save game format once you have it parsed out? Like writing a front end for the average user to manipulate the data? If we can manipulate a saved game, we can start writing scenarios. :) ~SDC~
To put in a link, type it in like you would a browser (including the http at the front), this site parses it out and adds the 'Link' icon, no special markup involved. Here's the link. http://www.cdgroup.org/forums/site/main/portal.php ~SDC~
I just realized my instructions were incomplete, sorry I was rushing out the door the first time. The Gravity Wells are .sbmodule files. They too go into the GalCiv \Data directory. But there might be an additional step involved. SB Module IDs have to be contiguous. If you leave a gap, all modules after the gap will show up on the screen where you decide what module you want to build next, but they won't allow themselves to be 'planted'. Stock GalCiv IDs go up to 55
Place the .ship files into the GalCiv \Data directory. That's all there is to it, they'll be available immediately. Adding Ships midstream is OK, but be careful adding techs/improvements in the middle of a game, weird things happen. ~SDC~
Of course, I am slightly more equal in that I'm the empire admin and retain veto powers on all key issues but hey, you guys won't deny me a few perks, right?
Of course not. RHIP. Rank Has Its Privileges ~SDC~
I liked it very much. :) I'd say welcome aboard, but I just got here myself. ~SDC~
I have it in outline format only at this point, and notes like 'neg PQ evt no work' aren't too useful for the general populace. Allow me a few days to get my notes in order and I will have something to present to the Council. ~SDC~
Interesting. Reviewing the data file, it would appear that though the Terraformer text says '...by at least 1 class.', the actual powers of the Terraformer are: CIV-WIDE: +10% PQ Bonus THIS PLANET: +10% Econ Bonus, +10% Prestige Bonus. Two possible theories: 1) Stardock assumed that no one would colonize 2) Stardock hard-coded an additional, supplementary bonus to Wonder ID #12 (The Ter
Glad you are back in the swing of things Ray, and glad to be on board. I can still put together that 'Modder's Wish List' I mentioned back in the original 'Call' thread, if Project #1 is still active. I've been meaning to document all the quirks of the data files anyways. ~SDC~
It is done. Let us travel the Metaverse together. I will embark upon a new galaxy this very evening, there are some new Alchemical formulae I wish to test. ~SDC~
I am an Alchemist of some small skill. The laws and rules of the universe are but play-things for one skilled in my art. I hail from the land of Mod-or, where I wrote the Book Of Writing that many a sage has used to learn the arts of altering the reality of the universe. Great and powerful this Knowledge is, I only hope that those who wield it do so for Good, not Evil. But Knowledge, in and of itself, is Neutral- it is up to the wielder to determine to what end it is used. I
Oy! I need that link a couple of weeks ago. That looks great, I wonder why that site didn't pop on the search engines? ~SDC~
Anyway, if there is not going to be an editor, please let me know so I can slap one together. I wouldn't want to recreate the wheel, if you know what I mean.
I heard Stardockians mention the possibility of a map editor, but no firm time-line given. I understand not wanting to throw a lot of time at a project only to see it become obsolete a month later. If you do tackle this, I think it'd be great. ~SDC~
Very interesting, good luck on your project. Parsing hex files != fun. ~SDC~
In my new game, I got the 'Space Vampires' twice more. I'm going to start sending out my colony ships with their holds full of garlic and holy water. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
Hardcoded at this time, but maybe in the future...? ~SDC~
