Too bad I'm past the 'exploration' phase of this game, else I could show you some of the new anomaly graphics. But I can show you this stuff. Here's the 'Star List'. You'll find it off the 'Planets List'. http://www.ctuit.com/bill/StarList.jpg It shows you star color, population, # of colonies, and ownership. The 4 'mode' buttons at the top don't work yet. I'd imagine they will be filters of some sort - uncolonized 15+ planets, ownership, the like. If you click on t

I'm fine with either name. I've got the Drengin.net beta and am putting it through it's paces. Anything you are particulary interested in seeing? I wrote up a breakdown on the changes thus far with the data files in the Mods forum. ~SDC~

I'm a Drengin.net subscriber and have downloaded the first beta of the expansion pack. With each beta I'll add to this thread the changes that might be of interest to the modding community. There will be spoilers galore in this thread so if you like the feeling of discovery, don't read! I will not, however, post any of the actual content of the data files. Here we go: CHANGES IN 1.09[b].001: ***New/Replaced files*** Expansion01Anom.anomaly Expansion01Even
Dropping in techs midgame shouldn't work at all, regardless of their ID. GalCiv reads the defined techs from the save game. The only way that should work is if you're changing an existing tech, or you renumber techs, in which case it pulls out the ones with the same ID numbers (and will probably crash if one of those numbers are now missing altogether).
And yet, it does. Provided the Tech ID is less than 1106, that is.
Adding new improvements mid-game wil

If you want to modify the tech files by hand, you will find a bunch of links to various tutorials in this thread (2nd post). http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GM&id=63054#65428 There is also an editor that I wrote, that allows you to edit every meaningful text file GalCiv uses. Here is a link to my program: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciv.htm As far as using mods from the Library, most of them have a readme inside that will tell you where to put the file. For most o

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with Paint Shop Pro, so I don't know how much help I can be. When you load the pcx up, is there a file menu option for Save As? If so, are one of your choices 8 Bit color (AKA 256 Colors, AKA Palette)? Perhaps there's an Options button, or an Advanced button that might hide these settings? I'm just throwing ideas out, sorry I can't be of more help. ~SDC~

No worries, thought I might be able to spare you the trouble. Regarding the pcx file name versus the event file name, it doesn't matter. What matters is that the correct path is given within the event to point to the proper pcx file. You could call the event Blue.event and the pcx Green.pcx and it will work fine as long as the setting: Image "Gfx\\Green.pcx" is set properly in the event file text. Please post here if you find out what mod was

Most of the graphics GalCiv uses are .pcx files, not .jpgs. If it is an event pcx, place it into the \GFX directory off the GalCiv root. On my machine this would be: C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Galactic Civilizations\GFX If this is not an event pcx, post what kind of mod you are installing here, and I will tell you where it should go. Oh, and if it is a .jpg, it probably still won't work, as GalCiv expects .pcx files. You'll have to convert it. ~SDC

Sorry I haven't checked in lately, work's been picking up. Submitted a game last night, though. Reading through the last few days, I find that Ray has succinctly summed up the Metaverse with these two lines: #350:
So what we have is a ladder that rewards commitment more than skill.
#389:
The scoring rewards empire building, not skill.
I'm going to submit one more to get to 5 victories, and then I'm going to get back to w

Quellar, I don't know if you've already reinstalled, but if you haven't, could you post a copy of your debug.err file here on a game where you've crashed at the first UP meeting? It could be a parse error, a quick glance at the debug.err file would tell me. If you've already installed, good luck! ~SDC~

Sorry about that! I forgot all about the first part of your problem. Could be a couple of things. I've had very weird results dropping in techs with IDs > 1000 in the middle of a game. If you play from the start you are OK, though. If you didn't add these mods midstream, then the other thing it might be is he's got the alignment requirement at 90. Could it be you were good but not quite good enough? At 70 you get the white screen, but you've got 20 more points to go before

Here's why you are having problems with the SB Modules. SB Module IDs have to be contiguous. If you leave a gap, all modules after the gap will show up on the screen where you decide what module you want to build next, but they won't allow themselves to be 'planted', as you've described. They also need to be unique. The 3 SB Modules in JoB's mod are IDs 69, 70, and 71. Stock GalCiv goes up to 55. You will need to renumber the IDs on his SB Modules for them to work. If you'v
I often wonder what my childhood would have been like with today's PCs and games available - pretty amazing stuff around now.
So true. I remember playing at arcades, and then getting my very own Atari 2600. Man, nothing was ever going to be better than that! Heh. Remember Adventure? Where your character was a little yellow block running around with a pixel drawn sword 20 times bigger than he was? How far we've come... ~SDC~
Boy, I feel old now.
Me too. I wonder how much of my life has been spent playing games of one sort or another. After college, the advent of the computer game was a godsend because I no longer had anyone to play with. For EU2, you really have to roleplay to the hilt to get full enjoyment out of that game. Unfortunately, though I know they tried to improve it constantly, that AI couldn't fight it's way out of a wet paper sack. But if you played within t

philopoemen, that event is not necessarily the end of the game- especially if you are already close to a Military Victory. It just means they are getting a random +1% bonus to one of their stats per turn. But there's 27 stats, and that includes stuff like Luck and Creativity that won't help them fend you off. Even +5 or +10 Weapons is easy to overcome with a higher tech level. Go get them now if you can, or ally with one and kill off the other. Or ally with both and win an A
