Captain Bizarre: I routinely only feed GalCiv the event I want to test by removing all events but the one I want. The problem with Random events is there's no way to trigger them. You could play 50 turns and never see one. Controlled testing under these circumstances is impossible. Phaedyme: Events that remove population are bugged in the exact same way. Nephrinn: a) Hmmm... interesting what you say about the OptStrings being the root cause. I will have to play with tha

Just figured out that you can not set a Good Option for a Colonial event to have a positive % effect. In other words, even if you set the seed value to +10%, GalCiv gives you a negative percent in-game. I don't know if this holds true for Random events too, as they are much harder to troubleshoot. Also, the PopChange values appear to be bugged, putting it to zero works fine and as advertised, no effect. However, putting in anything other than zero definitely does not

I enjoy your events a lot, and I hope you continue to make more! I have noticed a couple of problems with them, hope you don't mind me sharing: FILE: waliens.event PROBLEM: From reading the event, you should be granted a Research Bonus, but it's not working. REMEDY: Use the Attribute 9 rather than 8. Don't feel bad for making this mistake, all the stock GalCiv events have the same error. 8 is supposed to be Defense Bonus, but I'll be darned if I can get that to work. Eith

You're welcome. :) I should have been more clear about the Tech Capital, like the other Capitals, it only affects the planet it is built on, as you say. I'll post more as I come across more issues. And hopefully most of these can be cleared up in the next patch.

No worries, hope I didn't offend you. I'll make the proggy more explicitly state what is going on. It is explained in the EventInstructions.txt file, under the PICTURE heading. I just checked Microsoft's site to see if the OLE-automatable viewer that I know of (MS Photo Editor) is a free download, and it's not. Darn it! I might just breakdown and buy a darn PCX viewer control. I can probably fit it into my department's budget.

Yes, the picture will only show if you have an OLE-Automatable picture viewing piece of software on your machine. I'm sorry it doesn't work for you, but am not so sorry that I'm willing to spend $200 on a PCX viewing OCX control for my proggy. ;) Displaying the picture is just a little bit of "fluff", it not working does not compromise the base functionality of the software. I don't mean to be flippant, I've explored all the leads I could find to display the darn pictu

Really? I upgraded to 1.3 and my BonusEvent, CoreEvent, and StarBaseTax02 files weren't affected. I could be wrong though, my files are pretty heavily modified at this point. I'd think that if the files were fixed that the new verbiage I put in would have been overwritten. And they weren't mentioned as fixed on the Patch list. Can anyone else confirm these were fixed? ~SDC~

Now that I'm more familiar with the base GalCiv data files, I'm noticing there are a few problems with some of the files. If you are comfortable using NotePad, you can easily fix these files. The following is the list of discrepancies I've come across, feel free to add your own. Perhaps StarDock will see this list and fix the files listed as well. FILE: \Data\UP_Issues\AbilityBonus01.upissue ISSUE: The file says ability bonus, but the UP Issue contained within is

You are welcome :) OK, added a Zoom To: Event File (and UP Issue File) function. It's only available when you are sorting by file name, otherwise it would be a little nonsensical. I also amended the instructions file to include a warning about the duplicate UP Issues, and what to do about them. ~SDC~

Whoa, forgot this board doesn't like the greater than and less than characters. I meant to say: "If MW less than 1 THEN MW = 1, If MW greater than 5 THEN MW = 5." ~SDC~

Once I got my class objects and the collection class for the Events happy, twas simple to extend the interface to UP Issues. And for a lot of my helper classes I cheated and reused old tried-and-true objects I'd previously written. I am at heart a lazy person, and hate to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to. Re: the base events with MW > 5, my draconian tendencies flaired up. Quite simply, IF MW 5 THEN MW = 5. If Morality Weights as described by StarDock are suppo

Heh, new feature coming soon to the Writer! "Format C:? Yes/No" Glad to hear it's been well-behaved. The un-fun part of programming is figuring out the corner cases: "OK, what if the user, on a lark, deletes all of their UP Issue files. What effect does THAT have on my program?" And so on and so forth. There's always something you didn't think of, so you can't get to worked up about it. Thrull: Barring any reported problems with this build, it will be the publi

Latest version released to the beta testers. UP Issue functionality finished. I'm actually going to PLAY GalCiv for the next few nights (as opposed to trying out dozens of scenarios trying to crash the poor thing), but will probably tackle the next set of files over the weekend. Seems that .sbmodule, .imp, and .ship are all kind of dependent on the .tech files. Probably start with .tech, as parsing that file will be key for the rest.

Well, they deleted the mod I know had problems, but its possible you downloaded it prior to the deletion. Look through the mods, if you find one called "labour.event" then follow these instructions: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GM&id=44733 If that isn't it, sorry, there must be another buggy event I haven't seen yet.

Twould be. I was going to take a stab at it, but I'm so busy with the Writer it's unlikely to happen before he fades from pop culture's collective conscious. Looks like he got his 15 minutes and will soon be relegated to the dustbin of trivia- like Arthur "Scud Stud" Kent from GW1.

Here's the thing. I know they aren't the same guy too. Some bright bulb in the press corps decided to make a pun off Chemical Ali, dubbing Al-Sahaf as Comical Ali. Chemical, Comical. Get it? Yes, I know there's no sign of Ali in Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf. But when someone says Comical Ali, they mean Baghdad Bob, the Iraqi Disinformation Minister, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf. When someone says Chemical Ali, they mean Iraqi General Ali Hassan al-Maj

Another day of programming, more progress being made. UP Issues are 95% done. Just have to do some testing, and figure out how long the text fields can be and then I'll be done. Here's a screenie: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/upissues.jpg In addition, made some changes to Events. + Reworked edit screen slightly: http://www.ctuit.com/bill/galciveventwriter.jpg spelled out more explicitly what you are dealing in for the Effect (%/BC/Millions/etc.) Thanks t

Brashin: Nope. Comical Ali was a wordplay off Chemical Ali. He was also called Baghdad Bob. He had many names, I preferred to refer to him as the Iraqi Disinformation Minister.

hut101: OK, you've got a point, the proggy was being a little too draconian about text lengths. Now it politely let's you know there's a problem, but it's up to you to drop into Edit mode and fix it. Any of the beta testers can download this latest version by clicking on the link in the e-mail I sent out a little while ago, I just swapped out the zip file with this new one. You know you've got the right one when it says v.0.9.4.

hut101: "Is there any posible way of later adding a feature where I can change the file name of an event even though it is in another event file with other events. When you change the name of that event to a new event file name it will just bump that event out into it's own event file. I hope you can understand what I just said." Can't you do just this by viewing the event, going to Edit This Event, and then selecting the event file you want to write this event to? There's a drop box for Ev
