Building on food bonus tiles is fine. You'll probably need a morale improvement to balance it out though. Cool...that's what I was thinking (and doing). I actually like high pop planets - gives me more fodder for my transports. <TABLE cellpad

The majority of people who are playing aren't noticing bugs or having problems - they're busy playing. I've had some issues but overall the game is fun and worth getting immediately. The other thing is that a lot of us complain because we know Stardock listens, usually responds, and takes care of their code and customers.

For reasons that I haven't seen explained you can't have fleets in orbit (or on a planet, whatever you want to call it). You have to research and build the Orbital Fleet Manager for your ships on a planet to behave as if in a fleet. Even if you have OFM your fleets do not persist - they still disband when they hit a planet. The OFM just groups your ships into fleets based on your logistics rating if you're attacked. It's a big deal because when you're attacking with a fle

would like the explorer/scouting ships to be able to explore the galaxy by them selve....correct me when i am wrong Double click the ship and select the autoexplore checkbox. There's a keyboard shortcut for it too but I don't remember what it is (probably 'x'). I usually do some early manual exploring til I've scoped all the nearby stars th

When you population has maxed out at current food levels build a farm on high quality planets but do not build on food bonus squares and never more than one farm. Noob question - why not build farms on food bonus squares? (too high of a pop cap and resulting problems?)

When it comes to uber sensor ships I'm not sure it's that big a deal...but it is kind of crazy to so easily be able to see the whole map. Early on you can use a cargo hull to make a monster sensor ship but it suffers from the cargo hull fragility. Later on you can use a bigger military hull and go even more crazy (once you have some miniaturization and large+ hulls, or so). You can get the same effect from building a few tiny or small sensor ships, so it's not the huge sensor ship t

I don't think influence bases affect your planetary influence at all - they just "push" your influence "borders". They're independent influence producers. Place em appropriately, research and build improvements for them, and watch your influence "border" get "pushed" across the galaxy.

I want this too. Unless there is some incredibly compelling reason for always having the same opponents in the same order, which doesn't make much sense for a sandbox game. I'm wondering if the more commonly included AIs are stronger (better ability packages) or what?

I've kinda noticed the same thing but I kind of think the generic military rating is just that - a generic rating. I would suspect (and hope) that the AIs use more in-depth analysis to determine on-the-fly power ratings for decision making. There are other factors to consider beyond tech. For ex, in your situtation you had the ideal attack and defense types to slaughter your opponent - something that doesn't reflect in the military power ranking at all (and it'd be hard to

1. Starbases. It's most likely that the AI has dropped SBs to extend its range and you just haven't seen them due to fog of war or have overlooked their significance. It also doesn't take a huge amount of life support to get decent range. 2. You can buy things outright or put yourself into a world of hurt and do leases. The AIs could be doing leases and/or buyouts - and with 5k bc to start you have a lot of purchase power (and so do the AIs) - much moreso than in GC1. I kinda dou

Part of this issue is learning curve - all the techs are new to us. Once you've played thru the game a few times you'll have a better understanding of tech "value", which to me doesn't necessarily always equate to where a tech sits on the tech tree anyways.

Is there something else that can be used OTHER than the middle mouse button? I have a "thumb button"on the side of my mouse but it's not registering as a middle button and there's no option to remap. That button does work for me for various functions in other games (have it set to enable autorun for WoW, for ex). In UFO: Aftershock I remapped this functionality to my capslock key which I think is easier to use than a click and drag.

#3 Ahhhhh farms!!!! Thanks a ton! Do the farms just help that world or all worlds? Also, how do I get more squares on a planet activated. I managed to get some new ones on some planets from time to time, I assume through my tech leaps, but others seem rather static. Farms only provide food for the planet they're on and your total food su

Well, I figured out how to use the rally points and mix it with the governors for changing production and rally points and WOW, very, very nice. It totally changed how I deploy ships for the better. Very, very cool system. Very well done.

The "manual" button fires up the PDF version of the manual. If you don' t have Acrobat installed you wouldn't be able to view it. It almost takes superhuman effort to NOT have Acrobat installed on your machine. Maybe it's out of date. Miniaturization appears to work a bit differently than you might expect. Rather than shrinking the size of your various components it appears to increase your hull sizes. At least that's how it seems to work to me. Either way, the gains can be pret

There's a 26 in my current (and soon to be over) game. I was debating on assimilating the Torians...then I saw that world and that ended the debate. Unfortunately, the game is pretty much done so I won't get to enjoy it.

You can definitely spend a lot of time dinking with ship design and it's a ton of fun, but at the same time you can just slap parts together if you don't want to spend the time. Grab your hull throw a few engines on, add whatever other components you need and done. The time factor creeps in when you start playing with all the fun extras (visual enhancements only) and/or resizing components for effect, etc. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 class="mb-Body-

I just had another CTD and I think it was during an autosave. I agree with almost everything in the original post - LOTS of good ideas and/or accurate statements about game issues. I happen to be a big fan of standard windows controls and how they operate, and standard windows text editing conventions (as a programmer I seriously can't live without them). It's brutal when an app (like galciv2) deviates so much from the norm. I can deal, but life in the game would b

Same thing happens if you wipe out a race and their bases poof. You have to save and reload or neither you or other AIs can claim the resources. I would agree that this game needs a patch. I'm seeing a lot of little things like this that I can't believe weren't caught and handled during the extensive testing and so far all my games get very unstable in the later stages (seems like similar issues the Civ IV had at release with memory and/or texture handling).
