I started a Gigantic map with all the AI as Intelligent except for the Arceans, who i made Genius. I ended up starting in the corner of the map. I set spending to 100% and the split to 80/10/10 and started pumping out colony ships. I got all of my cluster, and the next cluster to the SW (I was in the NE corner) but the next cluster over had the Torians, and i only got a couple stars on the edge of it. There were two clusters to the SW, when my scouts got there the western one h

There needs to be some kind of competition with the AI for the tech victory, otherwise it's kind of hollow. Far too many games can be won by turtling and teching. Option 1: any AI who transcendes should leave the game, all their planets become empty, and the remaining races scramble to get them. However there should be a big cut in the metaverse score. I don't like this option as much, because the metaverse is not the be all and end all of the game. Option 2: any AI who transce
Where exactly is the combat simulator and it's source code?
I've gotten a class 20 planet up to 36 after sending about two dozen colony ships to colonize the planet, get PQ bonuses, and then dispand. The only reason i stoped at about +75% PQ was because my alignment had droped from the mid to upper 60s to the mid to low 30s. Didn't want to become evil since i was right next to the Torians :) There's no reason why this process can't be repeated indefinitely if you don't care about your alignment, so the "max PQ planet" doesn't really exi
No, that was an assumption made, and it isn't actually true, not to the best of my knowledge at least.
PontiusBruinPilot: They hate us, and we attacked their country, the fact that we kicked out a ruler they also hated is only a slightly mitigating factor. They never asked for us to be there in the first place. Most countries in the world however don't complain if US ships go through their teritory. Just becuase the US has the military power to kick their asses doesn't mean that they assume we will do so without provocation. Certainly if Norway decided to invade Spain (
The points I agree with: The Torians should realize that those ships were theirs and given to the player, they should keep that status for a few turns at least. There should be a diplomatic option where the player tells the AI that they're there for friendly purposes and won't attack, with _severe_ diplomatic repurcusions if the player lies. Certainly if the player breaks it, that AI should never accept/make the offer again, and perhaps no AI in the galaxy should either. <b
Adding tactical combat (any more than there is present in just moving your ships about the map of course :)) would be a bad idea. It would require a _huge_ amount of time and work on their part, and wouldn't really give us much of a reward for the effort. I do think however that there should be some more logic to which ship in a stack defends. I'm sick of my AM missiles always getting killed off first. It should be either highest defense or highest HP always goes first, with the excepti
Nicolas Bossy: That's not the way i understood combat to work. If the attack rolls a low attack and the defender rolls a high defense, the _attacker_ takes damage. Anyone know for sure that can clear this up? The manual doesn't seem to be very clear. I got my impression from "The difference between the two is then subtracted from the number of hit points." but it doesn't explicitly say what happens in the case where the result is a negative number.
Is the score just not showing up on the Metaverse? Or do you get a crash before you get the chance to submit your score?
Actually, there are odd cases where they actually are better off letting the enemy smash themselves against their shield. If you do the math on a Star Fighter with no improvements (2 attack, 1 deffense) against a Starbase with 6 defense (and therefore 3 attack by the defending rule) and you work out the math, the starbase would actually kill the star fighter faster if it forwent it's attack phase and just let the star fighter attack again. I think there are a few more cases as
Nicolas Bossy: I think the idea of the suggestion was that if the AIs get to the top of the tech path first, you don't lose the game, but neither can you win it via a Tech victory anymore. This sounds like a cool option to me, it gives you an incentive to sprint for the tech earlier that you might otherwise, but it doesn't totally screw you over if the AI beats you to it. I also like Nick Tower's idea, and actually a combination of the two might be neat. If you Ascend
Um, that can _not_ be right. I haven't read the tech recently, but i suspect when they say "short circuit" or whatever words they use they mean to make the reaction unstable and cause the start to blow off most of it's mass. If they actually cause the start to fuse _all_ its hydrogen at once, well, that would pretty much be the end of all life in the galaxy! Novas and Supernovas will wipe out life for dozens or hundreds of lightyears around, and that's only fusing a fraction of
Is this related to the overrun on the Tech IDs? And if so, will the fix be server side or game side?
Not the first time! _Every_ time! Or at least a bigger explosion or something. As it is blowing up star systems seems kind of trivial, when it should be a major thing. I'm sure the theory is that the player will get bored if the movies keep repeating, but this is a significant enough even that it's merited. The player can contemplate the killing of billions of people and destruction of entire ecosystems. (Of course whether they're feeling remorse about the regretably necessary action or
Those number are kind of funky, the only thing i can figure is that you both picked up a lot of anomolies to skew them, and perhaps the Yor have the war political party. As for the Starbase, what was it's defense? A lot of hit points won't do you much good unless you have the attack/defense to back it up, without it the Starbase will just be able to lose more rounds of combat before it dies which doesn't do you much good.
So shouldn't this technically be titled "Rave: Awesome!" :)
I need to get back to work, but i'll make a few comments to DannyB while data is building. I'm glad you could clear up for us the difference between the left and right wings with your broad generalizations. I guess the fact that i actually find the liberal agenda more appealing doesn't really count? The left has some crazy people in it, but so does the right. For every organization like PETA (some of their ideals i agree with, but their methods are full of crack) there's also a
I've purposefully voted the zoo to myself a couple times, i just always made sure to park a half-dozen AM missiles next to the "lucky" planet :)
ubertaco: So what if he didn't comply? He didn't have anything that could hurt us. Certainly not compared to N. Korea. Yet the Bush administration was quite happy to use the "we're liberating Iraq" propoganda to push the way. They claimed he had WMDs and was willing to use them, we invaded, and either they didn't have them, or weren't willing to use them. We said it was because he was flaunting UN resolutions, and we then proceded to flaunt UN resolutions in order to r
Just giving something the name communism doesn't actually make it a communist state. I don't consider a fascist dictatorship that uses comunism as an excuse to take what the want from the people to be a real communist state. Hell, they had _money_! How communistic could they be? A true communist state has never been tried. A true capitalist state has never really been tried either, though we've come a _lot_ closer on that than we have with communism. You want to take examples f
If they were put back in, it would have to be with a 1/10th modifier. a 6.8% gain to PQ wouldn't be _too_ unbalancing.
vernmeister2u: How does communism, in theory, discourage innovation, creativity and striving to work hard on a personal level? Any comments about the USSR or Cuba or China will be thrown out, because i don't even consider those serious attempts at communism.
vernmeister2u: I believe he's a nasty guy, and i'm glad he's out of power. I would certainly believe that he might have nasty intentions towards Isreal, although in the last war he seemed to favor inefective missiles rather than terrorist attacks. And i've seen zero evidence that he was training terrorists that were going to attack the US. All claims by the US government that Saddam was in any way associated with bin Laden and the Al Queda have been completly unsubstantiated by
ubertaco: That's the point, i _don't_ live in Iraq, which is why i have more personal concern about Bush than Saddam. It's pretty likely that the majority of Iraqis didn't want Saddam in power, but that leaves us on slightly iffy moral grounds in terms of getting rid of Saddam for them, and even more so for the highly questionable reasons and methods in which we did so. And yes, i'm exagerating a bit, Bush himself does not have the personal power to take away my rights
