Gerakken: Your analysis has at least one flaw in it that i picked up on. In a true comunist state, the government wouldn't decide what you do, you would have just as much choice as in a capitalist state if not more. But agreed, greed throws in the monkey wrench in all cases. It's impossible to have a pure capitalist state because of it, and EXTREMELY difficult to have a pure comunist state. (The only reason for the slight difference between the two is that capitalism encourages

vernmeister2u: Which terrorists was Iraq supporting? I still haven't seen any evidence of that. _I'm_ more scared of the thread of Bush in office than i was about Saddam being in power in Iraq. Saddam was a nasty guy, and i'm glad to see him go, although i disagree with with the reasons we got rid of him and the way in which we went about it. Bush however is more of a direct threat to me than Saddam was. Bush has the ability to take away my rights, has the ability to m

ubertaco: Yeah, i've heard of them, and they're crappily done and not at all what i had in mind. Food Stamps, that's not free food, that's a level of abstraction up from free food, and it's rather limited who can get it. I've heard stories about people buying crappy stuff with food stamps, or selling them for cash to get alcohol, drugs, whatever. Some of that's probably right-wing propoganda, some of it may not be, i don't know. The ideal is that you should be able to

I've seen multiple comments about the whole welfare situation and whether or not it's being taken advantage of. As someone with fairly strong socialist leanings, let me say that i think that welfare money is a fundamentally _wrong_ idea. I think that every human being is entitled to having certain basic needs provided. Primary among these is food, and shelter. If you want to make sure that people have food and shelter, then giving them money and hoping they use it to b

Technician: Quick question, you weren't starting with the PQ ability before it got nerfed were you? That would provide a huge increase to quality on Earth, which would lead to a much higher morale value, which would allow you to tax them more. Now that PQ is effectively gone, you would be seeing the "real" starting condtions for the first time. If that's not the case, then i have no idea.

I had this happen once and reset the game back to the previous turn. Why? Cause i had planets in a sector _right_next_to_it_ and they got _nothing_! Don't know if it was a bug or not, but i wasn't going to let the AI keep it's bonus if i wasn't going to get mine too :)

Aadik Shekar: No, denying that society helped support you in achieving the sucesses you have achieved is flouting the concept of personal responsiblity. I wouldn't be making the money i do as a computer programmer if not for public schools, i might not have cared as much about doing well in school if i'd lived in a crappy neighborhood and had uneducated parents. Some people manage to dig their way out of backgrounds like that, but by far most of the rich and upper-middle class

wampyre: _No_ country's media is perfect, why do you think he said we shouldn't just listen to America's media? To even _begin_ to get an idea of what's really going on in the world, you need to listen to a lot of different news sources, and know that all of them are exagerating or outright lying about some things. Once you've seen something from all the different angles and heard all the different lies, you can begin to figure out the truth. It's sad when peo

Some thoughts after reading through the last few comments (haven't dug through anything more than the last page yet :) ) The biggest reason socalism doesn't work is because of scaling problems and problems people have relating to each other. Farming towns in America a century or so ago were very socialist in some senses, if one member of the community was hit by hard times other members of the community would help them out. Unfortunatly the idea doesn't expand well. People can

About the CTD(?) i was getting when finishing a game: Okay, i checked out the game at home last night (well, technically at 1 this morning, but who's counting?) According to both Stardock and the number at the top of the menu screen it's just version 1.02 =P I don't remember exactly when i upgraded, but i did so through Stardock i believe. Is the 1.02 accurate, or do i need to check somewhere else for the more exact number? I loaded up the game, and hit turn, got a mes

"Arceans were trying to hijack civilian trade ships to defend their colonies which resulted in eradic trade revenue. Trade ships are civilian controlled, governments (human or computer) are not allowed to control them. Fixed." *laughs* That's great! I'd be doing that too if i could! AI getting a little too smart for it's own good? :) "This is a trade ship, we're on an economic mission!" "Not anymore you're not!"

Great! It's nice to see those minor little things getting addressed :) Now if i can just get the thing to make a submission to the metaverse for my 1.2 game, i'll be ready to upgrade =P

However most of the suggestions included the idea that resource starbases should be freebies. It seems kind of silly to punish the user for the one thing starbases were primarily meant for. Of course it would complicate the coding situation a bit, so i can understand why they didn't do it.

Hmmm, that's strange, i don't have the game right in front of me right now, but i thought it affected only attack and defense, not HP. Up until you reload of course, at which point it affects the very important "diddlysquat" ability :)

" Going back to the OS/2 method isn't an option (i.e. when you're not building anything, the resources simply aren't spent). We switched it to the way it is for a reason. What I was thinking is that maybe like a percentage of your unused resources could go back into your treasury. And this could be based on an ability. The thing is, we have to come up with a rationale. In the real world, your factories cost money whether they're building something or not. You can't just fire an

I keep getting CTDs when i finish the game! :sniff!: The first time i finished a game, a box popped up asking if i wanted to submit it to the metaverse. I said yes. Score got posted, everything good. I've finished two games since then, one on my desktop at work, one on my laptop at home (from which i submited the original working score) and in both cases, no mater how many times i reload and beat it again, no submission box pops up! The game just exits to the desktop,
