*laughs!* I've been having a tough time with this board, but it's almost worth it just because it made that comment possible :) I'm getting an image of the sticky posts as Cloud City, and every so often a piece falls off...

Technically a Terror Star could be built on top of them and then moved away, but that's a rare case, and i agree, they shouldn't disapear off the map. If you've detected them once, they should stay there, even if a starbase gets built on top, until such a point as you come back and find that it's been moved.
Missiles are good because the AI doesn't know how to handle them. If i was playing against an AI who had a ton of missiles (which i haven't seen yet) i'd want a screen of small cheap ships to take care of the missiles. You could completly block off your capital ships by surrounding them with scouts. In order to get to the expensive ships, the AI would have to waste several missiles getting through the screen first. It seems you could also negate a large part of the advantage by making s
Astromarine: I believe what you're thinking of is Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest, by Robin Hobb. Her Liveship Trader's triology (Ship of Magic, etc) is even better! There's some older stuff of hers under the name Megan Lindholm which i've heard is good, but it's all out of print so i haven't been able to see for myself. Wrath of Dog: Yeah, I liked Turtledove's earlier stuff, but i haven't read Videssos. Have you read S. M. Stirling's books? Not
And if you have everything set up so that you can take what you want and get peace declared again within that same turn, their allies don't even declare war on you :)
I'd like to see a few more boards, which would hopefully be a very easy thing to do. Bugs: For reporting bugs Suggestions: For making suggestions about improvements or additions to the game Support: For getting help with problems about the game for a specific person or on a specific computer. (ie not global problems that shold go in the Bugs forum) Metaverse: For everything Metavere related, empires, comparing scores, whatever. The Galactic Forum should be kept just
I'm still wondering what "Colonies on planets + Colonies on planets + AI will disband poor quality colonies" means :)
I've had this happen multiple times with in several games with different AI, so i'll just relate the most recent example with the Drengin. The AI was either Normal or Bright. After some initial hostility in the early game, relations had become fairly friendly between our two races once the Drengin realized i had enough military hardware to kick their asses halfway across the galaxy. So in the mid to late game, Dreadnaughts had been around for awhile, i opened communications wit
No, but my leader's name is Sheridan :)
Is there any way to figure out how _much_ they're trading with you? Occasionaly it shows up in the yearly reports, but i haven't found anyway to figure out the balance of trade in between those times.
Frogboy really doesn't seem to want to install new software, if he likes what he's got, i think he's done more than enough work on our behalf that we can live with this choice of his. Since he seemed to indicate that there would be the possiblity of more groups being added in the near to medium future, what new groups would people like to see? Good ones that i've heard suggested so far: Bugs, Support (help on fixing problems on specific machines) Suggestions, and Metaverse. And
Woot! Great thing on the Military Resource/HP issue! Now military resources are only four times as good as other resources rather than eight times as good :) Has the starport ship bonuses getting lost after save/reload issue been looked at? (Just hoping since you apparently were playing with those values :)) What does "Colonies on planets + Colonies on planets + AI will disband poor quality colonies" mean? I get the third part, but the first two are a little confusing.
Okay everyone, lets pause the discussion for a moment. Has everyone read the proposals for the economy and indluence changes in version 1.03? The biggest change is that you will no longer be able to get infinite production out of planets by stacking starbases. According to the limited information in the doc, once the bonus production is greater than three times the planet quality, production will be penalized. As long as that penalty is sufficiently strict, i think there's a strong poss
If you do make an in-game trainer, you should include a de-shroud function and the ability to examine enemy planets. It would shut up those people who are always accusing the AI of cheating, and it would give the rest of us the chance to learn from it.
It doesn't show up for some of us. I get the option on my laptop at home, but not on my desktop at work. At work it just exits (crashes?) to the desktop
I think that any limits placed on starbases, no matter what kind, should not include starbases placed to develop resources. Sure, that might mean that you'll get an extra starbase or two in a sector with colonies in it, but that's rare enough that i don't think you need to worry about it. If the player isn't allowed to develop all the resources that they reach before the AI, they'll just use cheesy tactics like surrounding the resource with scouts to keep the AI away until they research/develop/
I'm wondering if i submit my 1.1a game (if i ever manage to get it submitted, the game is being picky about talking to the Metaverse, i don't even get the dialogue box asking if i want to submit, just exits to desktop) where i edited the wonders.imp to give the TerraFormer the correct id of 12 in order to make it buildible, will it be considered a cheat?
Hmmm, is multi-colonizing as evil considered "legit"? :)
"Add another 10% because of bigshots partymix download where you can be activists that have 10%+ pq" Okay, that's _WAY_ overpowered. +5% might be reasonable, but +10% is totally out of line with what you get from the other governments.
First of all, here's a thread with several ideas i had explained in detail: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=41260 I kind of like limiting the number of starbases, i think 1 free per sector + 1 per colonized planet in the sector would be interesting. Is it worth colonizing a class 12 planet so you can put another starbase in the sector? It also puts a premium on heavily populated sectors, which makes sense to me. Densly packed populations are usually capable of a much larger sc
Major Class B bug that i just noticed and don't know if it's been reported yet. Shipyards/Advanced Damage Control/etc do nothing! Well, almost, if you build them on a planet, any ships that are newly created will get the bonus (to attack at least, they don't get anything for HP and i forgot to check defense) but if you save the game and then load it they lose the bonus! So shipyards and other starship improving social projects are only usefull if you use the ships you build bef
Not sure if i should be asking this here or in the strategy forum, but... How are the metaverse points determined for the different victory conditions? I'm at a point in this game were the altarians the torians and i have wiped out all the evil races. We're all friendly with each other, and i have a big military lead and am about to have a big technology lead. Everythings going my way, so i just need to figure out how exactly i want to win the game, so i figure i might as well
Yeah, but it's hard to tell when you've got scores of ships crisscrossing the galaxy, which is usually the case when i'm having trouble remembering where i was sending this particular Avatar or Constructor or whatever.
Those sounds like fairly good ideas. I hate it that when i click on a ship with autopilot, either directly or through the ships sidebar, it immediatly shoots off doing it's move, even if the reason i selected it was to _stop_ it and have it go somewhere else. And then to top that off, if there's another ship waiting it's turn, the screen immediatly jumps to that next ship and i need to find the first ship _again_! If it could be worked out, i would prefer if there was a "do all
Yeah, if i was going from 1.1 to 1.1a i wouldn't worry about it at all. The problem is that i'm _un_upgrading from 1.1a to 1.1, so i worry that having played under 1.1a will have changed something that the Metaverse will interpret as invalid or cheating from what is theoretically a 1.1 game.
