Got the game, picked human civ & proceeded to build a nice ship using one of the small hulls (after appropriate research). Built some of these babies for that game, too (still got a save game for this session). Later on, I get the game update. Playing a new game and basically want to build the same ship again, but when I research the tech for small hulls, the game won't give me that hull option anymore! Got the other two hulls, but not the one I had used before. After snooping around

Addendum: I play large or huge galaxies and set planet habitability to occasional. Neither myself nor my computer handles gigantic galaxies very well :p & I don't like to micro-manage lots of planets. Although I must admit the micro-management duties are much easier (in the latter parts of the games) in GalCiv than in Sid's Civ series. I'm getting the impression that it's easier to win with higher numbers of habitable planets, but I haven't tested this theory yet myself.
I seem to keep finding myself in the same situation in the early-midgame and I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on this for me. This is happening on crippling level diff (all AI=genius) with version 1.03.057. This has been happening on something like 6 or so games so far for me, almost all of which I've lost. I've been playing as evil for awhile now, although I'm not adverse to changing this. After the initial colonization rush, it seems that I must keep my military strength a
I got some good use out of Star Fighters in a recent game. I've been successfully playing using an economic style game for some weeks now and I decided to experiment with a fast build-up & aggressive military style and see how that worked. In other words, I decided to mimic the Drengin style of play. Game info: gigantic gal, rare habitable planets, all AI=genius, version 1.03A. After scouting around for awhile, I found some good planets and found I was next to the Yor and the Arceans. By the tim
I had a very similar problem earlier: had registered with Metaverse and had submitted two games. Then when I tried to submit my latest game: no can do. So after attempting to re-submit several times to no avail, I just re-registered with the Metaverse. Then I re-submitted my latest game and it was accepted.
(response to #48) THAT was the post that Frogboy was referencing? Jeez, that post is what, 2 weeks old? I just ignored it as soon as I saw that the guy hadn't even (apparently) bought/played the game. He just wanted to discuss the 'theory' of updating without actually having experienced what Stardock was delivering. Or maybe he was just trolling. Ugh.
No, no, I disagree with such a shallow analysis (that the other forum provided, not with these here posts ;) ). I think that you're onto something here. I've read your position papers that you've posted about the future of game distribution, development, support, etc. and I find your vision very intrigueing. I'm hoping that that future is realized and that maybe this game and its success will help to bring it about.
Thanks for the replys; I figured that the Drengin might have acquired the good techs via conquest/trade, but I wasn't sure. Good to know that you can trade or otherwise acquire the techs that are opposite from your alignment, if you want. But I'm still suspicious that the Drengin were actually 'good' because of their happy/fluffy kiddiwinky attitude. Which is fine except the stats screen stated that they were evil. I also didn't realise that the AI was capable of transmogrifying their a
I saw a strange thing in my last game. At the beginning of the game, I set up the Drengin & the Yor to be evil. The Arceans are neutral, the Torians and the Altarians are good. Throughout the game, I'm picking evil choices for the Terrans. I'm sharing a large star cluster with the Altarians, the Yor and the Arceans. The Drengin are alone in a medium sized star cluster some small distance away and the Torians are way off in the corner. My relations with the AI are about what you'd expect given th
This happened to me to, last night. I re-registered in the metaverse and then re-submitted and it worked. So I guess my account had somehow gone away? I could still see my original two submitted games, though. I dunno...
I, also would like more events. Maybe a slider to set frequency of events, since some people don't seem to like them. I would like descriptions of the planet improvements in the governor window (via right click?). Also, same for tech descriptions in the diplomacy window. Tactical Map upgrades: 1) Left click on a fleet symbol brings up the fleet list in the right hand panel. Same as selecting a fleet symbol in the Normal map. 2) Left clicking a fleet symbol selects
Frogboy, Ah, so apparently I was seeing the 'Arcean hijack' hijinx. In any case, excellent work on finding/fixing these bugs so quickly!
"Economics tested (no bug found, trade income can vary from turn to turn. In 1.03, the AI is much better about building starbases that pump up their trade so players are seeing more variance)." I have seen the 'economics bug' in my latest game on a huge map. I checked my bc before ending my turn (small positive) and then immediately after the computer finished the AI's turns (again, some small number, maybe still positive, maybe negative). But my cash reserves have been drained by like
That's funny... I haven't noticed any slowdown on the tax/spend screen, at least on map sizes up to huge & on challenging difficulty. Does it get worse with higher difficulty? As far as tough opponents... it always seems to be the Drengin or Altarians. The Yor may be tough, too, but they've always had a rotten starting location in my games so far.
More spice for this excellent stew :D I've got a PIII700/256MB and no real complaints about slowdowns, although I have noticed them occasionally. I've been playing on huge maps @ challenging diff. I did start up a gigantic map once, but it was slow right from the get-go, so I didn't continue that game. I'm not so sure I'd have the patience to finish a game of that size, anyway; the huge maps are taking me long enough :notsure:
Imagine this: You open the Tactical Map screen to study the situation on your 'western front'. You click on a Drengin fleet symbol and the stack info pops up: two Dreadnaughts have just come in range of your sensors. You click on the nearest of your fleet symbols: a Constructor - ack, this won't help! You click around some more: ah, here's a fleet of two Batteships plus a Dreadnaught. You right click to vector them towards the Drengin fleet. You also click on a nearby starbase, bringing
My tactic has been to almost ignore the population race at the beginning and middle parts of the game. I fully participate in the mad colonization dash in the early game; in most cases getting as many or more planets than the AI. In all of my successful games, I've been way behind in pop, but have been in the lead or at least 'keeping' up with the AI in almost all of the other categories (research, military, production, etc). This has worked well even in my current game: huge map size on 'challe
Aha! I've found a partial answer to #3. 'F9' brings up the tactical map. This little gem was buried in some post here somewhere. It's not 'sticky', but it goes a long ways towards solving this issue. Now then, between the Domestic Policy screen and this Tactical map screen, both of which I access A LOT, I'm wearing my hand out! Has there been any discussions about re-mapping hotkeys? Is there already some way to do this? C'mon, give us GalCiv addicts some relief! :p I don't want to go to a d
I've been playing for awhile now. Great game. However, in my opinion, improving the UI in the following ways would greatly improve the game experience: 1) The ability to bring up info on technology while in the Diplomacy screen (by right-clicking on the tech?). I know that others have made similar suggestions. Just thought that I'd add my vote. 2) The ability to bring up info on the planet improvements while in the governor's screen by pointing at the improvement and right clic
Wheeew... Just finished a marathon game. The AI is pretty impressive, as this AAR will show: This will be my third full game. I won the 1st game; cultural victory. For my 2nd game, I wanted to win via a research victory and learn the tech tree in preparation for the harder levels of the game. I had upped the intelligence of my opponents for this game since the 1st game went fairly easily. And paid the price: the Drengin destroyed me. So, for my third game: no Drengin. All remaining
I have a Dell XPS T700R (PIII 700MHz)that came with Win98SE and a SBLive value card. I've got the latest drivers from Creative and I have hardware acceleration set to 'full', but I still get the 'crash to desktop' syndrome anywhere from 5 min to 1/2 hour into the game. I have found a temporary fix, though, and I thought that I'd share it with everyone until Stardock can come up with a fix: I just turn off Sound FX and Music in the options menu: No more CTD's! :D Hey, I wish I didn't have t
